It pays to be at least aware of what can be done by skilled persons with the right tools. Cuff behind and double lock and pay attention to what your prisoner is doing in the back seat. It will at least slow them down.

Seen it? Hell, there was a guy in 18 who used to be able to open the cuff before you had the second one on!
Booby pin, straight pin, I've even seen it done with a plastic straw from Mickie D's.

SCC..post all or in part, whichever you think, officer safety first. Most of the shitheads don't have cuffs to practice this shit on. But the most dangerous to us WILL.
Retired Sarge sent me the video a few days ago. It works. You have to practice it a couple times, but you can do it with your eyes closed after a couple tries. Especially when you know what it feels like to unlock w/a key. You can feel the mechanism work. Be extremely careful w/the females in lock up. I have found a bobby pin and razors in the genital area (different times)...keep your eyes open officers!
I was able to do this with a paperclip,never was a big secret but I realy don't like it on youtube.Search em' good guys.
This sucks but is true, OUR SHITTY DEPARTMENT training; never, ever includes TRAINING ON DEFEATING HANDCUFFS. This is not only something you train on in jail or prison ---- which they do with proficiency---(That; and how to kill you while you are searching them or someone with them...:) But also how to defeat the arrest. They do train (Prior County experience) on how to knock your ass out, how to get your gun, how to beat the fuck out of you, how to get you to put the cuffs in front so they can choke you (Yep, you're right, she/he is [pretty cool. She went to school with your brothers friends second cousin or even your sister...Thinnk about it you fucking moron!!!!!!! Jail???? or Smack some guy/girl in the head and make up some bullshit for the reason. Eberyone keeps talikg about residency. I would have loved to be able to live outside the city. I am licensed. I know we can get a 4 bedroom/3 and a 1/2 bath with a greatroom, livingroom/familyroom/diningroom/and basement on a half acre lot----with good schools, not THAT bad taxes and a better LIVING WAGE than Chicago for $350K. I know it's a hassle to uncuff, but I usually have the key-hole side facing away from their hands just in case. Who cares if they need to bend in odd ways when you're removing them.
Thats why you should use flex cuffs. They don't use a key. Or lets use rope, we can hog tie every offender.

Locked up an old time mob guy when I was a P.P.O.. My F.T.O. was out of the room and I started talking to the guy. I guess he was in a good mood, or maybe a little repentant. He talked alot about the way things used to be and then showed me how to open my cuffs with a paper match he had in his pocket. Fascinating.

I'm CFD and I've taken patients who have had cuff keys pinned inside their underwear to the rear.
I've got family on your side....and I'll ALWAYS slow down when passing you with someone on the hood to make sure you have an extra pair of hands if you need 'em

As stated one way to slow down their progress is to have the key holes up and also if possible the cuffs thru the belt so they can't slip them down their legs. Needless to say I mean BEHIND THEIR BACK! I would cringe when I would see officers bring in a prisoner cuffed in the front and when confronted they whould state they are really not a bad person. Then why the hell cuff them at all?

At the morgue along with the clothing of a homicide victim I found a handcuff key attached with a safty-pin to the rear waist area of his pants.
Be careful and don't be shy about searching those prisoners.
And guys don't forget the CARMEX. They all have it, and I have watched prisoners use it to lube up the wrist in an attempt to slip out of them. Nothing like watching this for about twenty min. and then walking in and then you "JESUS" them (both hands handcuffed to bench). Rember, they are in custody, don't let them take a couple of days from you. Be Safe all and thanks to all that are real officers and HANDCUFF people.

theres a handcuff made that uses a round key like a Kryptonite lock or the lock on a pay washing machine

Basic cuffing, at leat here in Massachusetts: Hands in back, palms facing out, keyholes on the top.
I prefer hinge cuffs as they go on cleaner and easier and offer little mobility for the person who is TEMPORAILY restrained. The mutt's always complain about them but that is not my problem.
I would have to agree. Keep the keyholes UP, not down, where your arrestee will have easier access to attempt escape. And when you have a true "wiggler," either my partner or I would ride in the back, holding the offender by the cuffs, so that a real fool could not (a) attempt to defeat the cuffs, or (b) kick out the back windows to our squad. Sometimes, when you've got a real idiot to get to the slammer and the wagon just isnt available, you gotta improvise.

I wish I would of saw this video before this chick I picked up from the bar handcuffed me to my bed then proceeded to rip me off for everything I had. Hell, I thought she was just kinky but it turned out she was also crooked!
For all you rookies out there, always cuff her to the bed, never you! Lesson Learned!
I learned very quickly after a prison got his cuffed hands in front of him from his back was to cuff everybody palms out and key side toward the wrist. It's a hell of alot easier to get their hands in front if their palms face in instead of out. Plus be careful in the station where you lay your cuff key. One of my prisoners took my cuff key in the station one day. Thankfully I noticed and after a pleasant discussion (wink) with him he returned it.
Double lock your handcuffs like the order directs you to. You can't do it then.
Personally, I prefer the hinged cuffs also. Less mobility, less chance of arrestees swinging them around to the front, or other shenaneghans! Sure, I know the Dept. doesn't approve of them, and that's a shame. I don't approve of doing time off for BS, and I never have, with my hinged cuffs.

I TOOK A HANDCUFFING COURSE ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO OFF DUTY AND WAS GIVEN BY A RETIRED POLICE OFFICER RALPH CULVER, HE SHOWED A VIDEO SHOT IN PRISON ON HOW THESE SHITHEADS PRACTICE TO DEFEAT THE ARREST BY LEARNING HOW TO UN CUFFED THEMSELVES. BOTTOM LINE IS THAT I USE THE HINGED HANDCUFF, YOU GET BETTER CONTROL AND IF DUDE WHAT TO DO BATTLE WITH YOU, ONCE YOU HAVE HANDCUFF HIM AND APPLY THE RIGHT PRESSURE , DUDE USUALLY BECOMES YOU FRIEND.
I agree the hinged cuffs are way better. For those who don't have them palms out, key hole up and double lock em. If they've got on a belt run the cuffs through the belt keeps them from sliding their hands down their legs in an attempt to put the cuffs in front. learned that lesson the hard way.
