Call that Pax # 0304, request a CPD Guide Book,as there's info on rooms in there. Because of the late request you may be better off if they're already booked up,to go to Bing.com and search for room location, prices and availability.
Good Luck.

As soon as you figure out the sad, but true fact that NO ONE GIVES A FUCK ABOUT YOU with the exception of your partner (hopefully), your Sgt (If they aren’t trying to be a LT) and at the absolute most, your LT (If they aren’t trying to be a Cdr). Keep kicking ass and taking names! All of that great police work, numbers, heads, guns… that gets someone else promoted, NOT YOU!
-So true. This officers should be the first thing you read on the BLOG this morning. Was on an earlier post but bears repeating.

That officer's rant is the LAST thing anyone should be reading, especially in the morning.

This is an awesome job. It's not what it was, but it's way better than anything a copper should expect to find in the real world.

Think differently? Then, head out to the local private company and start working for them.

Medical? Pension at 50? Layoffs (if any) by senority? Overtime?????

Try this line on your new boss:

"Hey, things happen that are out of my control. I can't be responsible for everything. How do you expect me to get results with the equipment you give me?"

Too many coppers start this job too young. Their entire life experience boils down to high school and a couple of years boozing it up at college. The rest of their life falls into the same pattern. Too many coppers instantly develop a 50 year-old city worker mentality before they're thirty.

Poor work habits, easily defeated by the first setback, constantly emphasizing the negative, an overall lack of professionalism, a professed belief that what they do does not matter, and most commonly, an incredible belief that they are owed something.

Too many cops don't know how good we have it. To them, everything is just so unfair on this job.

The trick is, they won't ever know how good they had it unless they leave. Then, they'd learn real fast just how "fair" the real world is.

This was buried in another thread. It was well thought out, has some good advise, and should be seen. I hope this writer does well. It sounds like he/she has a good outlook in life. I will add one thing: outside this job, EVERY promotion is 'meritorious'. Here, at least you have a shot.

Also this year we have a larger group (10-15)of CPD members who are joining the National Police Unity Tour who will be arriving 'via bicycle' to DC.
Can any of those dedicated members from Chicago include the info on this site where we can contribute on your behalf.
I hear they are selling CPD T-shirts to help sponsor their endeavor.

My son has a friend at HQ who told him that City Hall has denied all members, excluding the Supt., authorization to go to DC. If anyone wants to go it will be on their own dime. He says the Honor Guard has been denied permission too. The Hall says it’s too expensive to have them go. The guys only asked permission to use a department vehicle and a gas card with the Honor Guard guys fronting the rest themselves. I guess Patrick needs another big buck contract before Dad hangs it up.

Now let’s see if I have this right - the Mayor and his wife can globetrot and the City picks up the tab under the guise of that being necessary to keep business thriving in the City. Daley and his wife get to travel the world but a few Police Officers cannot attend the memorial honoring our fallen heroes. Also, I’m told one of the only folks authorized to go is none other than our 2 ½ year veteran Superintendent of Police. Now isn’t that just peachy. Let this thought sink into your psyche - our Superintendent standing in the center of that most hallowed and honored memorial gazing upon name after name of those who chose not to utter “gotta run now.” Enough said about the leadership of this city and the department.

There are many times I feel my 36 years of service to the CPD was for naught. This is one. I only hope things get better for my son who still has a long journey ahead of him.

Be safe kids. As hard as this may sound, try to keep your head up and remember you still answer to yourself and your partner. None of the rest of those alledged superiors matter. Only you and the person next to you.

I travel to Dc a lot. The Affinia is a good hotel, price wise and in terms of proximity if you don't have a car. Right downtown near the train station on New Jersey ave. They have a rooftop pool, ten stories up, with poolside bar and grill, open until 10 pm. Great place to relax. Good for the price. You can do well if you stay in College sTATION Md near u of Md., and take a transit train to downtown Dc in less than 40 minutes. That works out great too. DC public transit puts Chicago to shame, and while you are there, notice that every sign in every DC Public Transit station is in English only
