IPRA Overreaching

A very pissed off copper writes to us from the west side:
  • Following the chase and "friendly fire" incident involving 010, IPRA showed up in the 011th District and started interviewing coppers, alone and without representation, over the chase that immediately preceded the shooting incident. It seems they were there looking for policy violations concerning the chase that had nothing to do with the final outcome. Watch your asses boys and girls. IPRA is looking for any copper they can hang on any bullshit they can dig up. Demand representation. [emphasis added]
This wouldn't be the first time IPRA has attempted to overreach their "duties." Don't get caught in their dragnet. Have them submit their allegations in writing through the CR process and get an FOP lawyer.

DON'T TALK TO THOSE MOTHER FUCKERS WITHOUT AN FOP REP OR FOP SUPPLIED ATTORNEY, DON'T LET THEM TELL YOU THAT YOU DON'T HAVE RIGHTS!

Simple tell them that you want your contractually required union representation present before and during any questioning.

Tell the IPRA people to wait for your attorney! Call FOP 24/7 and get the field rep notified no matter the time if IPRA insists on talking to you.

Maybe FOP should hire retired P.O's and set up a watchdog group to overlook IPRA.They should gather information on all the violation that occure against police officers at these incidents and start suing, this might take the wind out of there sails, and stop the witch hunts

Know your rights:

A Department member under interrogation shall have the right to be represented by counsel of their own choice and to have that counsel present at all times during the interrogation, and/or at the request of the member under interrogation, the member shall have the right to be represented by a representative of the Fraternal Order of Police, who shall be either a police officer on leave to work for the Lodge or a retired police officer working for the Fraternal Order of Police. The interrogation shall be suspended for a reasonable time until representation can be obtained.

No FOP rep, walk the f*ck away.

A while ago, I was brought down to IPRA to give a "witness" statement regarding an incident I happened to be in the area of. At the end, I was questioned regarding how the accused officer was in possession of a case report with my name on it as being the person who printed it. They tried to hang me, not for any original wrong doing, but for somehow giving this officer a report he could have printed himself. Not exactly just a witness statement.
Recently, two officers I know were involved in a shooting. There were never any allegations nor suspicions that this was anything less than a good shoot. During the interview, however, IPRA continually tried to have the two officers contradict each others statements so they could persue a Rule 14 violation.
How sad is it that you put your life on the line, and are 100% legit, and these jokes try to justify their existence and budget by seeking to discrediting two officers who have gone through one of the most traumatic experiences of their life.

Maybe these coppers should put a beef/CR# on the investigators for over stepping their boundaries. Will those investigators take a day, reprimand or be dismissed? WTF!

Hmmmmm.....lemmee think. I know a retired cop who'd do this and for WATT-ever the FOP would pay him.

Nice try, Kenny.

That retired po watchdog group to moderate IPRA sounds like a wonderful idea. WHO monitors IPRA? Theyre nothing but a bunch of blue tooth wearing, police hatin, hibbity-jibbity rev'runs.

Don't fall for their sly ways, make sure you have representation. Does a seasoned penitentiary shithead talk with the man without a lawyer-- HELL NO. Then why do coppers talk to investigators from IPRRA n IAD who are trying to take your and your families livelihood from you.

There is a lot of talk about suing people on this blogm especially suing the city or city agencies. I can only tell you, from experience, it can be a long, costly and painfull process to sue the city, that is if you are a caring responsible person and not some shit head. So, unless you have sued in the past, I would strongly reconsider and think things out. Most of the time, it is not worth it.

Don't want to talk to IPRA? Get some chest pains or an attack of neuralgia and ask to be taken to a hospital.

Tell you what why not just stop being proactive. You're never going to get the public behind you if keep trying to be proactive. Nothing hurts as much as when the public screams for help and all you do is hand them an RD#.

Fuck that bitch in charge, trying to make a name on the backs of working coppers! Take it from a KMA copper she wants to talk, "Call an ambulance I have chest pains, get me to the hospital" That would buy lots of time, and the city has to pay IOD,then sue her fatass for "Conduct unbecoming a human being"!

I second that!!
Lots of retired police with private detective and security licenses ( except for Terry Hilliard he's too dumb to past the test )can do it!
Do background checks, due diligence, and monitor IPRA investigators and present their findings via the web.
Also investigate and monitor lawsuit happy attorneys for conflict of interests, and alleged complainants .
Any of the parties found misbehaving, forward the file to the damaged officer and his attorney and sue them and the dept.
Perfectly legal
