Not Under the Radar Anymore

  • The way things are going, though, the Bulls are starting to feel rock-star-like love.

‘‘It’s definitely been swelling,’’ Deng said. ‘‘In the beginning of the year, we had some known names, but you didn’t really know how it was going to work. Now the buzz is there. Everyone’s kind of expecting us to win, even big games. Before, going into big games, people were not giving us the credit.’’

They are now. Everywhere they go, it seems.

So the question becomes, does the Department have a plan in place? Seeing as how everyone, even the "leader formerly known as J-Fled" is finally in agreement we're short over 1,500 coppers from what we had on the streets for the riots of the 1990's three-peats, we imagine they're going to find a complete inability to cope with a sustained outbreak of "celebrating" should the Bulls make a serious run at the championship.

Maybe they can beg one of the old bosses to dig out a copy of a "Bulls Win" detail from one of those boxes he packed when he left. Ivanjack or McNulty come to mind. There must be one or two more who'd have a copy. Mine are long gone.

Actually, Hilliard might have one!

Bring back the suburban Police Chiefs and their officers, just like we did the night Obama won the election. It's the only way we would be able to contain the madness. We simply won't have enough officers to be able to lock down the most susceptible areas, and we all know that. But Jesus, some of the suburban Depts. will be sent into hellholes that they can only imagine. Hillard may have to stick around (or return, only briefly) to help plan this event too, because none of the exempts from the era of the first Bulls championships are even around today (except for maybe Rottner, and he probably wasn't an exempt back then). Maybe Ald. Beale's 'security patrols' of Roseland/Pullman' will be utilized in some fashion too.

Them peoples of the South & West sides are going to embody Rahm's mantra of "never let a crisis go to waste" following a Bull's victory.

Funny, you didn't see the Japanese riot & loot after the earthquake, did you?

As much as I like to see our sports teams do well here in Chicago, after the nightmare of those bulls riots and working in the 7th Dist. for all of them I have never been able to cheer on the bulls. Prior to that I was a fan. I know it is not the team's fault but the results of them winning is riots. To bad people don't know how to act.

Michael Jordan said D Rose is the player he would build the team around, that D Rose is the league MVP and that the Bulls could win another 6 titles with this team. High praise from the best who ever played the game!

Ah, the riots. Now those were good times. Now that the projects are mostly gone, I see less of a threat. No hordes pouring out of Rockwell and Horner to loot their surrounding neighborhoods.

Better keep your fingers crossed that they lose. If they win, we'll see just how understaffed and tiny this department has gotten. The previous Bulls riots were fun, but we were still more like the cops of the 60's than we are today.

If the democratic convention happened today, the damn hippies and reporters just might kick OUR asses.

Anyone who came on the job after the Bulls last title/riot in 1997 does not know the meaning of the words riot or public disorder. Obama's victory night was just practice for what will come if this team wins it all.

The Hawks Stanley Cup Parade was the BIGGEST group of people I have ever seen in one place at one time, but those people were orderly and were not savages.

The only thing I could imagine that could be bigger, would be a Cubs World Series victory parade. Everybody would show up for that one because they know that it could be another 100 years or so before they would see another one!

A) they ain't winning any championships, relax. B) under this mayor you'll actually see the possibility of outside help in a major event (yep, maybe even the NG).

The point? We're not at 11,000 yet.

We'll make do somehow. Lets face reality, the city is shrinking in population. We're facing pension shortfalls and budgets need to be balanced. Hiring anything more than 1000 police officers is ludicrous.

Last time I checked detectives can still wear uniforms and work the streets. We'll survive an In unlikely bulls championship

Worked everyone of the Bulls Riots. 1 & 2 in Gangs South. Yeah they were fun.
As far as the Suburbs go,they would step up to the plate, better equipped than CPD. I was VERY proud to still be the POLICE last Sat. at approx. 0230Hrs when OLPD called for an assist at none other than a "Dennys". Great job to all the responding Units. Loved the Copper with his K-9 out there too. CPD would not have allowed that back in the day, if I remember, only under the approval of an exempt.
Stay Safe All Officers.
Revolver Police.

200,000 fewer people in those same neighborhoods. That's 133 people per cop. Since 10,000 cops for 3,000,000 people was where we (allegedly) were in the 1990s (i.e. 300 people per cop), 1,500 down for 200,000 fewer people still puts you ahead.

Are the Bulls peaking at the right time?
Do they have what it takes to win it all?
Will a championship lead to shopping with the Bullson the west and south side like back in the 90's?

Stay tuned, dig out you helmet, dust off your baton, and be ready for anything...the department isn't.

we can't even handle the waste of chicago or the 4th of july fireworks at grant park--- if the bulls win in june we will have a city wide problem, not just something that is going on at grant park--- isp will help but they also have less manpower--- maybe the national guard or suburban help will be the answer....

I'd look into what the bosses from the old days are doing these days. Having a Jimmie Maurer on board as a consultant and ready to go if the Bulls got to the Finals, could be invaluable. Like him or not, Maurer took decisive action during these incidents and that kind of leadership is what is needed in a crisis.

I wouldn't trust HALF of the current District Commanders to be able to lead the troops into this kind of civil unrest. Hell, some of the current crop of gold stars probably weren't even on the job when the last Bulls riots happened. What help are they going to be?

Meh, it will probably be no worse than what happened during Obama. But you never know. But as people said, no more Rockwell Gardens, Hornets, ABLA or any other west side projects are still up. Those places accounted for a lot of the problems on the west side.

I just can't see it being as bad.

Nonetheless Go Bulls!!

Four days later and still no looting or rioting in Japan. Just 120 million people acting like orderly compassionate human beings. Amazing when you consider New Orleans only had a population of 1.3 million during the Katrina disaster and savagery was at it's worst. Sort of reminds me of a small scale Bulls Championship.

You must have been safe inside behind the desk or still in high school when those Bulls riots happened. The projects were only a small part of it. Rockwell was nowhere near Madison and Pulaski or Chicago Ave and those areas were wild. Obama night was nothing comapared to what a real riot and looting are. Hopefully someone will remember how to put a plan together for the clinch games if the Bulls get that far. Otherwise we are going to be slaughtered. You young guys are in for a treat either way if the Bulls do what I think they can - WIN.

At minimum, everyone should have at least one crowd control canister in their bag or car (and for you citizens out there, have one in your homes too). Suggested make: Fox Labs MK-9. Best $50 or $60 you'll ever spend. For those times when you need to beat back multiple shitheads but can't really justify opening fire, they're just peachy.
