Media Report vs Reality

  • Three people were shot in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side Friday night, one of three overnight shooting incidents on the South Side that left six people wounded, officials said.

At 9:19 p.m. fire paramedics were called to the 7200 block of South Paulina Street and found three victims suffering apparent gunshot wounds, according to a spokesman for Fire Media Affairs.

Shots also were fired at the first police officers who responded to a car crash at the scene, according to a spokesman for Chicago Police News Affairs. Police did not fire any shots and no police officers were wounded, the spokesman said.

All three victims suffered gunshot wounds, and at least one of them was injured in the crash. It was not immediately known who fired the shots at police or the victims, according to news affairs.

And from someone on scene, we got this:
  • In 007 tonight a 10-1 is called as a unit chases a vehicle and shots are fired by the fleeing vehicle at the police several times. At some point the offenders begin bailing out...four in all. Luckily the idiot offenders helped the police out by running over one of their own as he tried to flee. Eventually all four offenders are caught (and rather quickly!), two pistols are recovered, and as the foot chase is taking place the dispatcher relays info that there was a drive-by shooting just a few blocks away by a vehicle matching the description and three people at that scene are shot. I am in a citywide unit and heard the 10-1 come over citywide. I flipped to the zone as we headed that way and have to say it was awesome hearing the units come up one after the other saying...got one in custody. Great job to all the P.O's out there in 007! And Frank Main will never believe the trigger happy cops never fired a round.
Same event, two very different takes. Version two sounds a lot better.

A perfect example of no matter what district I'm in, I'll always remember the enormous balls coppers in 007 have. I did close to 10yrs there, and recently moved somewhere slower. Great job fellas, you guys make us proud! -Former Englewood Ranger

Is what the media reports ever accurate? Cant tell you how many times ive said to myself "thats not what happened"

That's because the media doesn't know how to do their job any more. Back in the day, before the communists and other assorted ass wipe left wing anti-Americans took over, there were reporters who were friendly with the police and intolerant of criminal behavior. They would have been able to speak to a desk sergeant and get the real story. Not any more. Now they look for a way to make the cops look out of control and spin the story so the mayor is happy and can screw us out of raises.

Seriously, grow up with the Ranger shit.

FYI, The Chicago Police Department has coppers with "enormous balls" in every district and unit.

Shouldn't our News Affairs be proactively contacting reporters about stories with good police work?

This city used to have great reporters, but alas they are all gone. Now you have a person who can't spell, can't put a sentence together, can't get the facts straight even when handed a news release. Some of these morons just file a story cause someone tweeted, or sent them a text message. Never been to the scene or even know about what they are writing about. What a waste, and shame the news industry has become.

Another Flash Mob attack on a convience store in Dalls. As usual numerous Black yoots enter the store and go nuts. On the way out they attacked the lone store clerk and beat him in the parking lot. This stuff is way out of hand. When are we going to make an example out of these animal criminals and give them something to think about.

Enough with the englewood ranger crap, why is it that coppers who work there think that that's the only shithole in this city? Blah blah this happened here and so on... I'd rather work the home front and keep MY neighborhood safe, maybe you tough guy rangers should think about that for a change and let the ghetto communities burn.

Great response by the 007 dist. And those that had their ears tuned into the citywide. Thank god all the officers went home safe and their peers were there to back them up. Excellent job by the CPD!

O/T The way they are picking the new commanders is five chiefs have to approve the interview from the resumes submitted,so if I'm saying this right five of the chiefs who were promoted by WEIS get to pick who can get a first then the second interview. So basically what Im saying is goofs picking goofs the same old stuff.

scc you need to put this out, last night in the 011th district, a guest that no doubt will be like all the others to sleep in the lobby, jumped over the rest and commenced to fight the desk crew. he was tasered with multiple Tased, dry stunned and maxed. 39 total tastings. and was standing while being Tased and it took 10 minutes to subdue and about 12 coppers to finally put cuffs on him. point is, this is the kind of shit we gonna be getting every night so be vigilant and look out for each other. if this incidents doesn't raise questions for that whole experiment the city is trying to start then i don't know what will.

Worked in 007 for almost 8 years, no other District that I have been in has the same attitude about being the police then in 007. I was one of those working guys who would get looked at by less aggressive officers that I was crazy to try and do my job In an area where they hate the police, my attitude to their view on me was I'm the police and came on this job to lock up idiots! It sucks we may get messed with by administration, and may have a goof for a commander like currently but it doesnt change how an englewood ranger thinks, you guys make me feel great to be an officer, good job to all involved.

City the last 11. 007th District coppers, the real 007th District coppers, are by far the best. By fucking far!!!

It is a badge of honor that we EARN by staying there. Day in and day out, we put up with the nonsense and human garbage. We do not get a break or downtime like you would, protecting your homefront District. We are grateful that you are protecting OUR homefront. So if you are looking for this, Gosh, Thank You.

Yes, we can transfer out and some are stuck due to low seniority, but this place, by far, has some of the best comaradarie that I have seen. No bickering or cliques like in other Districts. We are there to back each other up, because we are all we have.

So before you go on a rant on how the "Ranger stuff is bullshit", think about that. We are proud to be here, that is all.
I would rather have 10 coppers 15 seconds away when I am in the middle of the shit than 20 coppers 2 minutes away. It does make a big difference.

Stay safe and back each other up.

To the guy stating that the Englewood Rangers should let the neighbordhood burn and only protect the homefront. I have a feeling that if you had landed at Normandy on D-Day you would have swam back to america to protect the homefront. Signed, never worked in 007, but if they want to call themselves rangers who am I to argue

Well if this is how you feel about your workers in 007 let us know in person that we are appreciated not on an anonymous blog. Yes we have great workers(but so does every district), but we also have little cliques, backstabbing, bickering like everywhere else. We also have/had, past and present bosses who nit-pick everything and show no appreciation for a good job. You state we are busy going job to job with no downtime then why are we treated like dogs who don't do their jobs because we didn't get a parker, mover or bus check in the almighty conflict zone?

I would love to be able to protect the home front. Unfortunately I am not lucky enough to do so. Would love to see the officers that are supposed to be protecting my home front, but I rarely if ever see any police. It's nearly impossible to drive down any given street in 007 and not run into another officer. I understand the opinions of others. Some don't agree with the ranger saying. I know that if I run into some trouble and need backup it will be coming by the dozen in less then 10 seconds. I know if we are involved in a 10-1 surrounding districts and units will respond. That makes all of us great police. So before you go judging others try try to get a better understanding of the shit we go through.

I don't consider myself a ranger, I'm just a cop who likes to work. I do believe in backing up my fellow officers because the last thing we need is to lose a another cop.

Is 007 better than other districts? Of course not. We all know regardless of where you work in this city you're the police. Some of us are aggressive and some of us are not. I'm not one to judge because we all have our thing and police our own way.

What's important is that we take care of each other out there because you never know when an officer needs help. A shithead can get the jump on you anywhere, whether it's Englewood or Lakeview.

Be safe and back each other up.

I am a civilian in the 007. I come here to read up on you guys. I know the job is hard and trust I know more than anyone the shitheads you deal with on the streets of 007. As a civilian I have long wanted to thank you ALL you guys for your work (but I cannot be seen being too friendly with CPD less I put my own house and family in danger). Without you, any of you, there would be nothing but anarchy in Chicago. I appreciate you all. I only wish I could do more than offer a few
