Light Weekend Turns Medium

Don't you just hate when someone says, "Gee, the radio seems awfully quiet," and then ::BAM!!!:: Triple shooting, two foot chases, half a dozen domestics and a call about, "Check the mysterious ticking noise...."

  • A gang-related drive-by shooting in the River North neighborhood left a man dead and three others wounded early Sunday morning, the four among at least 19 people injured and three killed by gunfire since 11 a.m. Saturday.
A quadruple shooting in the trendy River North neighborhood. Isn't that one of the spots that the Department has been pulling cops out of to better serve the south and west sides? Golly, why would gang bangers who don't even live around there hang out there, shouting and representing and attractive all sorts of negative attention to the formerly low(er) crime area?

Oh yeah...no police.

So where, oh where is Garry going to pull coppers from now to head off almost certain retaliation in the River North area? Cop-Land districts north and south are already stripped bare. Tact, Gang, Vice and Gun units are working days off in the war-torn area of the west and south sides. Wrigleyville is a rapidly becoming a lost cause along with Bucktown. Michigan Avenue has it's own overtime-police-force that will rapidly be overwhelmed if it warms up in a hurry.

Maybe the over-policed south and west sides are going to have to give back some of their coverage? The aldercreatures, if they aren't already bought off, ought to be raising hell, along with their constituencies.

By the way, that attempt to keep it under twenty-five dead and wounded? It took another hit Saturday:
  • One person was killed and two men were wounded late this morning shootings on the South Side.
Chicago in the springtime.

River North pays big taxes! The paper said 500 block of West Erie. So much for safe condo's and night club area.

The slow down fall of Chirac! With weekly wounded and death totals of any third world battle zone.

Some of those crime figures don't count. They happened outside of the proper zone of time for them to count. Major crime is down in Chicago.

Don't you HATE IT when some slick sleeve (or worse, somebody with enough time to know better) opens their pie hole and jinxes the damn thing just when you're enjoying the dead air after choking down a 4 wing from a place where you can actually see the bottom of the deep fryer along with the last bottle of Mexican Coke you had rolling around in the trunk... (thank you jeebus for Costco!)

"Gee... Quiet isn't it?"
Hey! STFU ya idjit!

"Yeah, 11xx? Getting multiple calls about a male offender shooting up a white car with a bunch of other males in it... Ohhhhh... 2900 block of Roosevelt... Wanna take a look?"

Naw squad, not really... Sounds like invitation only and you KNOW da PO-leese ain't nevah invited! Yeah yeah... We're rolling.

>SMACK!<
"Oww!"

Ya nitwit! Now I gotta taste that chicken again!

Don't jinx it! ;^)

That "trendy River North neighborhood" location was my beat thirty-some years ago. Back then that area was run down rust belt factories and if you looked behind the Erie Cafe building across Chicago Avenue you would see the infamous Cabrini Green Public Housing Projects.

If only I could have been brought property there back then.

Too bad they didn't pull that shooting a couple of weeks earlier when there was a meeting of Federal Agents, LEOs, plus security executives and attorneys many with CCWs. This would be an interesting scene in a movie.

The best part of the River North shootout with 21 rounds fired was the fact McCarthys truck was parked in throwing distance of all the empty casings and pools of blood. Hope the crime lab took good video.

Those stupid liberals in River North are paying sky high taxes for less and less police services. Rahm and Garry keep stealing police resources to give to the ghetto. I would be mad as hell if I was a resident or business owner in River North (I will never be!)

The animals have already destroyed their own neighborhoods and are have been going where the police are NOT. Crime is INCREASING in taxpaying areas!! Garry are you taking notes?? You are failing the taxpayers by stealing police resources!!!.. That will be your legacy!!

And you idiots wonder why people want to move OUT of Illinois???

This is the cost the citizens pay when Rahm and Garry do more with less. Every citizen of Chicago should be demanding more police get hired.

C'mon SCC, really? As if 001 and 018 don't have more officers assigned there than any other districts in the city? Maybe some of those 'detail' officers need to pay better attention to those clubs they police from outside. Just saying.

You can add this one to the list.

"A Chicago man is dead tonight after a traffic altercation escalates into violence. Investigators say the car crash in McKinley Park early Saturday morning was intentional.Police say the 24-year-old got into an argument with a person in a white SUV, on the 1800 block of W. 33rd Place. Police say Mendez and his friends left their Chevy Cavalier to approach the SUV. That’s when police say the SUV’s driver hit Mendez with the vehicle, killing him". Death Investigation!

Of course no one covered this but in 010 they had to close the cinco de mayo carnival down on Ogden and Sacramento last night due to the savages invading and fighting. Now 1000 who from day one is over her head by being promoted way beyond her capabilities. Began to call cars in from 011 012 014 025 to help out because she has no clue to run a district. But to everyone's amazement a real leader and a real commander took over. Enter 1100 who does not even run the district takes command and directs all police personnel on what to do. They were forming skirmish lines like in NATO to push the savages out of the park. In 15+years a carnival has never been shut down in 010 due to under manned district. Officers from 010 were glad they had a real leader even though it was for a few hours. Being a officer in 010 we greatly appreciate the help from all officers who responded and a big shout out and thank you to 1100. We appreciate you and respect you unlike our worthless commander. Anytime shit hits the fan and we can repay our debt ness we will be there. Thank you all and be safe out there.

Well now! My wife and I spent many an afternoon in Erie Park - at least up until last year when we moved out of state. Stay safe officers, you're fighting a rearguard action. The exodus is real and your boss(es) have escape plans. Don't forget to make your own!

How come there isn't a description of the suspect / suspects or vehicle so that the residents in the area, including myself, can call police if they see them? There are cameras from condo towers and restaurants all over that area. There has to be some type of video that shows this happening. Will Gary even care about this shooting or is it too far away (2 blocks) from his beloved East Bank Club, where you can catch him daily working out and laying out at the rooftop pool for him to care.

The numbers are coming from SWAT. All "operators" are now going back in a CPD uniform, rotating days off and one training day a month. No more take home cars including the Sgt's. If an HBT job is called the officers will respond from the districts. If more officers are needed they will bang you on the blackberry so you can respond from home. Sorry SWAT I guess your Not SWAT.

Were you there? I was and 1100 made it worse. All the savages did was run in the middle of the street acting like they usually do. There was no reason for cars from other Districts to come. 1100 over reacted. The festival organizers should be ashamed. Why would you have a Mexican Festival in an area that was mostly ghetto black? That is like having Bud Billakin (sic) in Pilsen.

Re Cinco de Mayo
Ghetto thugs from 10 and 11 weren't just running in the streets like the poster at 0814 posted. There were lots of fights and gun calls all over the place.
11 stepped in and helped out. The zone called in 14 and 25th districts but they were waved off.
At the end of the day park was cleared peace restored no shooting no injuries.
10 and 11 stopped the beast in their tracks.
And yes I was there.

I'm a Retired(28yrs)City Police Officer from another State. I was told about this site by a friend from Chicago and enjoy it. I think it's great that cops have a place to speak the truth.
I was just wondering one thing and wanted to ask a question:,How long can your P.C. McCarthy keep blaming "Illegal" guns for his Murder and Shooting rate instead of gangs and "Social Issues". There will always be guns and there will always be ways to get them by criminals. But I was just looking for some insight as to what "He" calls an "Illegal" gun because I am a strong advocate of gun rights.

The reason for the gang/shooting problem in River North is due to a bigger problem in the police district that serves it, the 018 District! A great internal feud & power struggle is at hand involving incompetent sergeants, ineffective operations lieutenants ( who need to retire & take their bottle w/them) as well as a w/Secretary who thinks she is the Dist/secretary. I can't believe how dysfunctional this place is. Why did I come here?

Looking into my crystal ball I see a riot happening in 19 after dusk, following the pride parade next June. SCC and Crime In Boys Town I hope will have video posted of a potential urban take over. perhaps crime in boys town could rent out a balcony in one of the condo buildings near Belmont and Sheffield to film from. For the past 3 years, parade night in 19, the zombie type's have grown. In thousands. Why should this year be safer then the past years. It won't be. There is no leadership here and that is very scary and also very sad. Those animals take over Belmont every year after the parade is over. At 0100 it's like a urban high threat zone.
