No Alert, No Surprise

  • Ben Benedict stood near the edge of the Washington Street subway platform, waiting for a late-night train home, when he felt a hard jab to the back and tumbled to the tracks five feet below.

He stopped a foot short of the third rail and immediately looked down the tracks, but didn't see the train yet, according to Benedict. Then he looked up and saw the guy who pushed him. He was staring at Benedict and not saying a word.

Benedict tried to scramble back up but the man kept blocking his way, pointing his finger at him and pacing back and forth. Benedict said he screamed at people on the other side of the platform, but the man tried to push them away until they formed a circle and helped Benedict onto the Blue Line platform.

    The man ran off.
Here's the always sympathetic CPD spokes-weasel:
  • Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said authorities chose not to alert the public after Benedict went to police because "this appears to be an isolated incident." He noted that Benedict "did not sustain serious injury and was assisted off the tracks."

He said detectives are working to identify the attacker from CTA surveillance video. "CTA and CPD do not believe there is any risk to the traveling public," Guglielmi said in an email to the Tribune.
Sure....until the individual sneaks up on another unaware passenger and succeeds in murdering them the next time. That quote will be of tremendous comfort to the family as they sue the City, CTA and Department for knowing there was a mentally ill individual pushing people onto train tracks. That quote is the quote of an asshole that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rahm Inc.

While we're darkly amused that his quote actually saw print, we're aware of dozens of other Alerts that haven't made it to the public eye. There are currently two or three patterns of robberies downtown - times, descriptions, M.O's, vehicles, etc and there isn't a single Alert our there. According to our Detective friends, that's a direct order from City Hall so as not to alarm the tourists and have Rahm facing another round of what a dangerous city Chicago is.

City Hall would rather a tourist get mugged or worse, knowing they won't return for trial, than alert the public that everything isn't all rainbows in Chicago.

Its the media's fault as well that they don't provide details of potential threats and offender descriptions...But we all know that they are the slum times and fibune....And we all know its racist to put out a description of an offender.
That goes along with racial profiling....Well if an aaahole offender is black.....by all means start looking at white people.....WTF when is common sense going to return to the majority of the people so we can be safe and get rid of these machine special interest only politicians we have in this town!

Man fatally shot blocks away from earlier police-shooting in Lawndale

About four blocks west of an officer-involved shooting late Thursday, a man was shot dead in a car parked on a Lawndale street early Friday morning. . .

What logical connection does one event have another? Asshole media and their perpetual anti-police driven agenda. Headline might as well have read "three years after laquan mcdonald was murdered by police, a man was shot in his car" . . .

What's left to wonder? Had the victim been carrying and defended himself by shooting the a**hole, he would have been immediately arrested for carrying while on CTA property. CTA officials would be tripping over them selves to get their sound bite on the 5p.m. news stating what a tragedy this was and their prayers go out to the poor man who was shot by the gun toting conservative. Rahm would dust off his "guns are bad" speech and, while choking on emotion, with a single tear rolling down his cheek, plead to the t.v. audience that once again we should ignore that rabble rousing document called the Bill of Rights and rely on him to decide what's best for us.

Best way to advise the public / tourists about Chiraq crime - LEAVE A REVIEW ON TRIPADVISOR.COM. Just pick a popular tourist attraction, the bean, art institute, millennium park, etc. and leave a review. If you have any insight into problem hotels or restaurants downtown, let the public know. Every tourist coming to Chicago looks at Trip Advisor.

It is appalling how far the media, the politicians and the politically inprisoned police bosses go to protect the criminals. At the expense of innocent unsuspecting citizens. This guys picture from the surveillance video should have been playing on the news to alert the public and speed his capture, but no.....we cannot hurt the feelings of specific groups so therefore we'll just wait for him to kill someone. Sounds all so rational.

When McCarthy came here he was shocked that there was less then 140 in Mass Transit, Now its closer to 110 with Commander Samms by-passing the contract and sneaking in about 12 transfers, most very NOBLE people.Might have 100 for all 3 watches not counting Tac or k9..Only 2 of the 7 lines are manned if the 3 teams are not on fixed post. Had this been an illegal alien (oops, undocumented voter) who was knocked onto the tracks by a Republican Rahm would have made sure that the national news stations would have led with the story. Notice how earlier this week TV news was reporting 13 armed robberies in various locations on the north side. Anyone think our illustrious Mayor gave a rat's ass about that. Of course not, all he had he time for was letting the world know that our failing school system is a Trump free zone. Maybe he should start worrying about the "citizens" of Chicago and not potential votes.
Speaking of the bullshit coming out of his mouth about CPS. Makes you wonder how with graduation rates now approaching 80% do only 5-10% of students meet State standards when taking the PARC tests? Of course that's why the CTU and the Board of Education itself are always trying to come up with reasons why these tests should be abandoned. They want them out because they can't cheat on them and if they do they risk State funding or worse.
So are students learning or being pushed through the system?

It's seems several officers privacy has been violated regarding HIPPA. Some questions should be asked in he next few months about a Israeli company Cellebrite and the outsourcing of pension and city funds going towards the use of this company's software to pry into officers electronic devices. Surveillance footage should have been reviewed ASAP and notices posted at station entrances with either a composite sketch of the perp or an screenshot from the video. There's no mention of Benedict ever being allowed to review the video records around the time of the attack. I don't want to call it a coverup, but the CTA has already been caught not counting crimes that occur on their trains and buses if they happen outside of the city limits.

It's very easy to lose hope or become extremely cynical about crime and politics in our Chicago. But we must have hope. Also, understand that I lived in New York City from 1985-91 when I honestly knew civilization was collapsing. Virtually every week there was some atrocity like this pushed on to Blue Line CTA 3rd rail. There were many famous NYC atrocities during my tour of duty there (I was a Brooklyn Public School teacher) like the Central Park wilding attack, gang rape and near murder of the Central Park Jogger (Sharpton and his crew got all but one of the rapists, attempted murderers off scott free and even got them $ millions), the Crown Heights Brooklyn anti Jewish pogrom, the Tawana Brawley rape hoax (another Sharpton scam) but there were so many other atrocities that didn't go national news. I'm a tennis fan and this week is the US Open in New York City Queens. One year a tourist and his mom from Utah were robbed and attacked on the Subway going to the tennis tournament by some "crew". The young men defended his mom from this mob and was brutally murdered with knives. The mob calmly robbed the dead young man from Utah, then existed the subway and used their loot to go to a dance club where they were identified and busted by New York's efficient NYPD. The murderers showed no remorse for the killing and just expressed anger that there dance party was interrupted.

So when I left NYC and noticed more horrors like Islamic extremists using truck bombs to blow up the World Trade Center in 1993, I sort of lost hope for New York City and then....

A tough Italian American mayor Rudy Guliani was elected, the Rev. (not) Al Sharpton was put in his place, the NYPD under tough top cops Bratton and Kelly reclaimed the streets of New York City - violent crime was reduced to safe levels not experience since the early 1960s (well there was 9/11/01) and civilization was restored.

Let us hope, work and pray that some tough (preferable Italian Americans) will appear to save our beloved city of Chicago. No it ain't going to be some Lib Jewish chief of staff to Obama who served in the Israeli Defense Force, but never has anything good to say about American military or American police. No it ain't going to be Kim Fox, or anyone put in power by BlackLiesMatter, funded by George Soros, no one mouthing off about LaRaza - the Race, "My People" don't have to obey your laws against illegal immigration, heroin trafficking, shootings by POC under the age of 17 etc.

Let us work, hope and pray for some strong men, strong man - sorry ladies, you're just going to have to be supportive of our strong men.

God bless and God protect us in these terrible times.

I was born in Chicago. I grew up in NW Indiana; Chicago was the only "real" city that existed to me throughout my early life. One side of my family was entirely Chicago born and raised. I have spent many happy days in Chicago. I wish I could say I'm planning on spending a lot more time there . . . but I'm not. I'm not a cop, but I've worked in law enforcement and in government. Nowhere have I seen more harm done to a city by its mayor than what I've seen Rahm do to Chicago. Rahm needn't worry about the word getting out that Chicago is a dangerous place, thereby causing potential tourists to stay away. The word is already out. I feel for Chicago's cops. As professional as they are (and in all the time I've spent in Chicago, I've never had a problem with one of them), they are helpless to do their jobs because they have one of the most inept and incompetent politicians ever as their ultimate boss. I'd say I feel badly for Chicagoans in general, but they're the fools who keep putting Rahm back in office. Unfortunately, the men and women of CPD have to live with their fellow citizens' stupidity at the polls. I've written many comments in many forums about Rahm and his incompetence and how he's ruined the city I once loved. I've even sent a couple of emails directly to "His Honor", with my name, asking him to explain what, exactly, is going through his pea-sized brain. (Obviously, I didn't get a response.) My days of trying to make sense of Rahm are finished. Finished, too, are the tourist dollars I'll spend in Chicago's hotels, restaurants, ballparks, and stores. I wish the CPD all the best. I realize my wishes mean little to nothing, but please know that there are many of us outside Chicago who believe in you and in what you do. For what it's worth, stay safe.

Simple battery thru case management then assigned to a summery Det.May as well been a 19P.One phone call to the victim and no answer, case suspended with no further info from victim. State would never charge him with agg batt because of no serious injury,no blood or stitches. Even if he did get charged with agg batt Letem go Luckman in Br 42-2 would throw it out,no probable cause. Loosing battle here folks. Get a CCL and load up and be prepared. Rahm don't care and neither does Transplant Ed or the CTA. Your on your own. Good Luck

What say you experts, I have been told by lawyers that, I as a retired law enforcement officer carrying concealed under federal statute, I"m exempt from the city ordinance and can carry concealed on the CTA. Because there is no way I get on the L without my Glock!

Why would you even care about some stupid no guns on the trains, when there's assholes running around pushing people on the tracks, robbery's, shootings, stabbings, and people getting assaulted. If you get in a shooting on the train, you may have to claim the kill, because of the camera's. Any place were there's no camera's and a lack of witnesses to ID you, just color yourself gone.

A lunatic attempting to fry a Chicago commuter, not important.

Instead we should all be relieved that the local msm is keeping us abreast on how Chicago's animal shelters have taken in animals from Texas and are prepared to shelter more from Florida. I'm all warm and fuzzy.

If a tree falls in a forest, and nobody is there. Does it make a sound?

Maybe if it falls on the prancing pansy mayor...

>High pitched screams like the "Opening of The Ark"
scene in Raiders of The Lost Ark<

To 11:16 on Sep 8-
Why wait around even if there are cameras. I advise everyone to just walk away if involved in a shooting downtown. Think those cameras are really going to tell us anything?

SCC, may I suggest an additional reference tab on your website that the unpublished alerts can be linked to so that the public can view them? Just a thought, keep up the good work.

So the "tourist" gets mugged. Reports it to the police, the police catch and charge a suspect. The "tourist" ID's the suspect as the asshole. Two, three years later the "tourist" returns to court, testify and suspect is convicted.
Then the court slaps said asshole on the wrist and turns him loose ignoring the fact the asshole is a suspect in 15+ other criminal cases.

Life goes on in a sanctuary city, except when the victims are killed.

I now live in Rural western Montana, 25 years ago my mother had a stroke and was at Rush St. Lucke Medical center. I had a young women staying with me for a small town, we took the CTA and I thought the stop I needed to get off was Paulina. We were walking down the platform when two punks appeared out of nowhere. I had a Ruger Speed six with a 3" barrel. I told her get behind me and pulled my gun out. They booked and I didn't have to shoot them however think of the problems I would have had if I did. I thank the lord everyday that I don't live in Chicago anymore. I am 73 years old and handicapped.

The victim made a report via 311 about 24 hours later. That's where the problem started.

Always carry a $100.00 on you. UUW is like an old city DC./ 193 1a. LOL. Go to court and watch as you get the case sol'ed. Demand a jury trial, that freaks out the judge and asa.
No need for an attorney and pled you are broke. Or Get case continued and after the second round, the police will be m I a anyway in court. The crook county way.
Anything short of murder in county with 10 witnesses gets thrown in the garbage.
Those c.c licenses are b.s., retired copper' after awhile just don't even renew their HR215 and save the $100.00.
Foxx is a blessing, she could not find a criminal at the Pacific Garden mission ! Let em all go.

"Chicago is not all rainbows". WTF. Your city is like Mogadishu, South Africa, and the Brazilian favelas all rolled into one. I would not go there again if you paid me all of Bill Gates's money.
