2017 Last Gasps
- It was Tiana Harston’s first time at American Ale House, a bar with Christmas lights hanging in the window and a green awning, on the Far North Side.
She was there early Sunday to celebrate a friend’s birthday. But uninvited guests slipped in, cutting the celebration short, she said.
A shooting inside the bar at West Howard Street and North Claremont Avenue left four men injured, one critically, police said.
Harston, 37, was sitting by the front entrance and did not see anyone who might cause trouble come inside.
“Somebody had to let them in from the back door,” Harston said after the shooting. “They never came in through the front. I know all the men who are intertwined, I know their faces.”

I’ve been there a few times.it seemed more like a local old mans bar, not a boys town or cub fan fabulous type place either. Definitely didn’t seem like a shooting gallery.
That place was always a dump. Old man Anton supposedly bought it 4 or 5 years ago, hence the name change. Anton also own the 4 o'clock joint around the corner, the Mark II. His kid, Tony owns the Mullin's bars.

Boy growing up those Hasidic Jews in Rogers Park were dangerous when they walked in a bar with their chrome out. The only thing that would save the patrons is they would get in a 20 min argument if the corned beef in the place was any good and by the time they finished everyone would be gone.

Rogers Park had dicey areas back in the 80's.
The Ale House needs to be shut down,and should have been years ago. It's a low-life pit.
