It's what they want....at least, the blue cities do - we'll quote the final paragraphs:

16 years in. I’m not staying for another 4 to get 20 years. I’m still only 38. I’ll start a new career. I applied for a job a few days ago in Tallahassee Florida for Allstate as an insurance investigator. Only 5 days after applying I already got a call to come down and interview next Wednesday. I talked with the guy for about 45 minutes and it seems like I’m in. If I’m in, then I’m out of here in a second. I will take a loss on the house if I have too. I live in 016 and sorry but I have no longer have any allegiance to this city, department or neighborhood so I’m gone and the first bidder, no matter WHO it is gets the deal. I don’t care if it’s Fr Pflager or any of his parishioners I’m GONE. Let this place rot. See ya but I’m headed to Florida and so long policework.
We say it every week...don’t do anything. And every week, we’re on the news for something where we are wrong, whether it’s warranted or not. This is what they want, then give it to them. Don’t do a fucking thing. Go to your calls, give the report and go back to the hole. If you do anything proactive, you need your head examined. This bug-eyed midget is looking for a reason to hang us, so don’t give her any ammunition to do that. We can’t call for a job action, but we can do the minimal. They don’t want the police in their neighborhood, no problem. When the shootings and homicides are through the roof, she’ll have to deal with her constituents. We know where she stands when it comes to us. Don’t give her spit.
This is horrifying, but understandable. Just bear one thing in mind: the reason your jobs have been as easy as they have been (and I say that in all seriousness) is because the silent majority has remained silent. The silence hasn't necessarily helped you, in that we may not have always been activists in support of the police...but we have also kept to ourselves in other ways. We haven't committed crime, we have been vigilant and reported wrongdoing, and we haven't caused you any problems. This is hardly the sort of rallying cry you might want to hear...but please remember the civilians, the ones who support you, who do what they can to make your jobs easier. WE are the ones who will suffer if/when the police force dwindles due to attrition. I personally will be fine...at least until I'm not. But what about the kids, and grandmothers, and old timers, who truly will suffer? You do what you have to do. But please, consider it, consider all of it.

Ok let's break this down. Defund the police DOES NOT MEAN abolish the police. This is just reactionary rhetoric that makes LE look like a bunch of fools. For the past 20 years, Public Education, Mental Health Support, Public Housing and Public Health have ALL been defunded and that money has been allocated to militarizing the PDs. And to what end? Police aren't teachers, mental health experts or policy makers/executors. Why should PD respond to someone who has a mental health crisis, armed to the teeth? Why should you be responsible for clearing out homeless encampments? Why are you in schools and arresting kids for having an argument? You shouldn't. There are experts in this world equipped to handle these situations - and it's not a bunch of gun toting wanna be superheroes. Look at the big picture - it's not all about you.

The Minneapolis Police Chief walked out of ongoing police contract negotiations, and is refusing any further negotiations.
You can assume any negotiated job protections are going to be eliminated if Minneapolis has any say.
Think that Brown will do the same with your expired contract?
And if you elect to re-locate to a more sane location, please respect the culture and ways of life those folks have. Be respectful and don’t try to change things.
There’s plenty of places that will welcome you, plus the weather may be more welcoming.
I have 4 years to go and I have the days left count down on my phone. I check it every now and then just to remember the light (retirement) at the end of this dark tunnel is approaching. It seems so close, but 4 years is a lifetime on this job in the current anti-police-pro communist environment. My wife and I have already decided we are putting the house up for sale and retiring to a conservatively run and fiscally responsible state upon retirement.
I used to think I'd miss the people and/or the job, catching the bad guy, taking a gun off the street from a gang-banger. Now I know I won't miss it for one second.
Officers over 50 with 20 plus years on the job are the ones the bug eyed, high forehead, ill fitting pants wearing hater would love to remove from the job. She could offer us a buyout and many would leave. Probably 25% of the department would be gone in less than 6 months. But here is the problem for Groot, and she knows it, as much as she HATES the older generation of Alpha police officers, she KNOWS she can't replace them. Nobody wants this job anymore, not even the Soy Latte drinking Beta-Cucks.
Defund the police? They don't have to because as this article infers, police officers will defund their departments through retirements and change of profession. Just watch how many Par forms are submitted for retirement within the year.
There are plenty of places to live in America. Move your family to a city where you fit in. Having peace, and not worrying about your safety, career, or freedom, makes for a wonderful life.
The radical left wants to abolish the police to allow communist thugs to terrorize anyone who disagrees with them. Arm yourselves and loudly support the police. Call your congressmen and women and your senators and demand police protection from these thugs. We need for all Americans to stand up and fight against this new cultural revolution. If you do not fight, we will lose the freedoms that our soldiers have fought for centuries to secure and preserve. I don’t know about you, but I would rather die than be ruled by communist thugs.
If one chooses to be a police officer please don't sign up with any agency where democRATs are in charge, it will only haunt you in the end. There are plenty of place, (unfortunately not the big cities anymore) that people really do appreciate the profession of policing. However, if one signs up for example, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, you're going to regret it.
Be safe and watch each others backs, God knows nobody in government is.
My husband is a retired policeman. We have a home in Florida, Sarasota area. A world of difference there. Believe me, there are much better places to be the police. Start researching. Florida, no state tax, balanced state budget, amenities like clean parks, nice roads, good schools etc. The pay may not be as much as Chicago, but the trade off is worth it. I am sure there are many better places across the US as well. Stay safe you guys, not just from the criminals but from the "powers that be!" You guys don't deserve what is happening.
One of the biggest problems is all the insane people out there. They used to lock them up. Now they put them back on the streets even if their own family and loved ones want them locked up.

They hurt someone, often themselves, and the police show up, when they really need a social worker and a Psychiatric Orderly or three, not two someones with guns and handcuffs.

That's exactly what it means. Sure, the radical will take what he can get meaning if they just take away some of our funds and give it to the ghetto dweller, he's good with that. But the goal is to abolish the police, they have said that outright. Note the overtaken area in Seatle which boasts 'no police.' You be all the apologist you want. It won't happen, they can't abolish the police without the blessing of each individual state, but that is what they want. And no, it is not all about me, it is about my family and friends and the decent citizens of Chicago who will be terrorized by the mod. Where is the FOP?? Have they said anything during this crisis? What’s the point in funding the FOP if they do nothing at the most critical times? Stand down, everybody. Really?? Can you point me to studies or even news articles where an unarmed social worker has deescalated a domestic call? And will the homeless listen when the Karens come to ask them to clean up their needles full of puss and blood?
Red state property values. I retired in 1998 after 28 years.
I moved to the Phoenix area four years ago.
I bought a house at about $250,000 and it is now worth about $310,000.
Like a scale, the worse it gets in Blue states the better property values get in Red [non democratic areas].
I'm third generation Chicagoan, it broke my heart to leave.
It is hard to leave.

With all the suggestions on places to live where are the good places? Maybe some retired coppers could chime in, maybe some active coppers that left the most corrupt city state city state and county can tell us what looks better for a law and order is respected for people behave and are not praised for the criminal activities like they are in this corruption filled area we live in.

That essay was by Travis Yates, who is on Tulsa PD which has not been one of the forerunners in the politically correct police area. But evidently he sees the handwriting on the wall even there. And as far as Minneapolis, and Chicago, be afraid, be very afraid.....everybody is pointing to Camden NJ as the shining example of 'defunding the police'. Disband the police department, hire back select officers who are willing to take a huge pay cut and no union protections into a smaller department under county auspices, and give the rest of the money to the 'communerty' for jobs programs, homeless shelters, etc. That's what is going to happen to departments that have contractual protections and semi strong unions.
