017

  • In the city’s first homicide of 2018, a 51-year-old man was shot and killed a little more than two hours into the New Year while driving on the Northwest Side.

The man was among 12 people shot Sunday and early Monday in attacks across Chicago, as city residents rang in the New Year amid sub-zero temperatures.
And the number of people shot is already in double digits.

The good news is, by pro-rating out the numbers, Chicago will be down to 365 homicides for the year which is a 50% reduction.

Shootings however, will jump to 4380, an increase of nearly 800.

See how playing with numbers is fun?

Talk about fun with numbers---

Statistics released by the police department on Monday show the number of homicides fell from 771 in 2016 to 650 in 2017. The number of shooting incidents dropped from 3,550 to 2,785 for the same period.

HeyJackass---

Total Shot: 3561
Total Homicides: 675

OT From post and deserving of being copied:

Officers, perhaps I missed it but I saw NO comment as to the way you (any Officer) make a statement to a Detective or ANYONE ELSE when you have been involved in a traumatic situation and a suspect or bystander is injured or killed (shooting, violent assault, bad car wreck in which you were driving, etc.)
Your COPA fixates on the "inconsistency" of Officer Rialmo's statements. When faced with a situation you should NEVER speak to an investigator or even another Officer immediately after the situation. I speak from 37+ years on the Nashville Tn. PD including 28 on Patrol and 9 as a plainclothes Detective. We had the FOP as our representative most of that time and we had attorneys on call that would come to the scene to speak with the Officer. You can make a short statement to let the investigators know the basics but you NEVER make a formal statement (on the scene or otherwise) without an attorney present. Things happen too fast, time slows or seems to speed up, you have NO idea of how long things took or even how many shots were fired until you can sit and decompress and THINK about it. It may take days but you have a constitutional right to (A). Have an attorney present and (B). Not make a statement if you don't feel right about it. Your brass may not like it (I'll guarantee that) but you have that RIGHT.
Once you make the formal statement then you are one and done. Second statements and "followups" do nothing but generate inconsistencies that can be used to hammer you.
First thing on the scene of another Officer's situation is to make sure that he/she does not develop diarrhea of the mouth and tell them to SHUT UP and make sure an attorney is called. No lawyer, no statement. You give that consideration to the worst of them, now afford it to yourself and your partners. You want to explain yourself and you feel the need to fill silence with your comments as to how your actions were correct and all you do is walk into the same trap that your "clients" do every day.
I read all of the COPA report and have to say a lot of this would not be an issue had the two Officers availed themselves of this opportunity to take a breath and speak with a person that is paid to LOOK OUT FOR THEIR INTERESTS.

-----------------------
This is the same issue with Van Dyke, in that we've been conditioned as CPD officers to trust detectives and speak to only them and attorneys following an OIS. They're looking out for our best interests, as we're led to believe. And while I don't believe Det. Jensen was anything but concerned for Rialmo, his interview is a strong basis for COPA's decision. They effectively worked around the contractual time given to officers to collect themselves before giving an official statement. Our only administrative responsibility for statements is to answer Public Safety questions off camera, and those questions are already within the general order. No talking to officers, supervisors, COPA or detectives anymore; lest you happen to innocently forget a detail

Looks like your numbers are off. The first person shot was 12:05 and the first killed was at 2:20. That's a shooting every 5 minutes and a murder every 2:20. 2018 is looking at 105,120 shot and 3,754 killed. Concealed carry is clearly to blame for this uptick in crime.

Being that we are now in 2018, the spinners can no longer compare stats to that anomaly year of 2016. Will be interesting to watch how they spin those numbers against a 'normal' year. They will generate their excuses, etc., making excuses like they do best!

Statistic no democrat wants to discuss , everyone knows the pipeline of drugs is through mexico . Think of the damaged family life of thousands that have children struggling with heroin addictions .
Arrests for illegal guns , drugs way up as the democrats brag . thank you CPD and suburban police , what they will not tell you is crook county judges , states attorney reduce charges , very few do any jail time .

New Year, New Plans.. 018 and 001 personnel are getting on board with CAPS and working with residents; sharing the true numbers of officers and how underserved/underprotected they are.. We keep asking our elected officials representing these areas to take the lead yet we see nothing.. Good call by the men and women to board the right bus on this one. Word is an idependant study in the works that will include the numbers game our CPD leaders so love. Unfortunately these numbers will address the officer/resident/geo ratio with comparisons amongst all districts. This will be a new arena in which our underworked criminal defense attorneys (fewer arrests, fewer cases) can fund their new boats, summer homes and lady/man friends.. The city can anticipate an uptick in civil suits based on the failure to protect citizens in certain areas of the city. Racist? We dont now, you make the call..

Citywide research has already been done and published on the West Town Public Safety Committee FB Page. Residents in the northern area of the 12th District have been doing that for the last two years. We gained Officers, but then 20 retired in 2017. You can’t let up on the pressure.

The good man from Nashville PD said it all and to a tee. MUMS the word. Also, Nashville people are not haters of the police and politicians don't fret when a criminal is shot after shooting at the police.

Nashville people and people of TN are good people, they got that good heart we don't see often here in Rahms-World of terror.

Wish I moved to TN a few years back like I want to do, too late now for me.
For all you young CPD guys, move your ass South of the mason-Dixie line, and become a happy person again. LE there are hiring and people respect the police for the most part.

Bad thing about living in the south is the food, to good to pass on and it can kill you eating like a hog. Everyone wants to feed you there. God fearing folks who don't play with ghetto trash.

I respond.

I went to college at Vanderbilt in Nashville TN - I agree most people Black and White in Tennessee are good people and support the police when the police are doing an honest job. A few cops in Nashville were bullies to me and didn't like college students from the North, but most were fair. Nashville did have a bad policy back in the mid 1980s that cops could just shoot fleeing suspects even if the suspect didn't have any weapon. I ran from the cops once and there were shots fired (interesting story, college hi jinks, I was trying to steal back my own car that an unscrupulous tow company was holding hostage).

Anyway, the exception to my statement that folks in Tennessee are good people and support honest police work is the city of Memphis TN, which has now fallen down in to a smaller version of Chicago - rampant crime, city government misruled by BlackLiesMatter and Antifa Libs. These Leftists are ignoring the rampant Black on Black murders to attack Confederate monuments, Confederate Graves.

I'm a call in guest to a popular Conservative radio show out of Memphis WwW.ThePoliticalCesspool.org it's on every Saturday night 6-9 pm Central Standard Time.
