Update

Posting is going to remain light for the weekend.

We're still a day or so behind in comments, but we needed something to occupy our time, so we threw together some posts...pictures and a few current things. There's more we're working, but it will keep a day or two.

Careful this weekend with the protests and potential for rioting.

Social Media Riot II

Here's another post about the Social Media Riot we covered above:

• Eight officers were injured when a post-funeral gathering turned violent in Little Village on Tuesday night, police and prosecutors said.
  
  A short video posted to Facebook shows part of the incident. In the video, officers can be seen standing behind a yellow barrier while a crowd of people stand on the other side. A person appears to throw something at an officer across the barrier.
  
  At that point, officers push through the barrier and go into the crowd.

The linked video shows the copper getting hit with a glass bottle in the face that required 6-to-8 stitches.

We're not noticing any apologies coming from the "community." Or the politicians who have fostered and abetted this type of behavior in recent years.

The left has raised and released a monster....and they can't control it. You see it here, you see it nationally.

Just for Jake Fundraiser

Another child of one of our own:

• On December 12, 2014, 8 year old Jacob Danny Mieszala found out that he had a large inoperable brain stem tumor called Ganglioglioma.
  
  If you have had the pleasure of knowing Jake, you know he is special for so many reasons. Jake loves school and excels in all of his classes. He is bookworm who enjoys art, drums, soccer, animals, his treehouse, and exploring the great outdoors. Above all, Jake loves his family, who he affectionately refers to as “the zoo.” Jake has a 4 year old little brother named Casey who thinks the world of him and tries to be just like him. Jake also has a few other non human siblings which include 4 dogs, 1 cat, and 2 birds (hence “the zoo”). Jake’s mom, Lauren, is his biggest advocate and supporter. Jake’s dad, Paul, is a US Army veteran and Chicago Police Officer who helps motivate him in, what has become, the fight of his life.
  
  Because of the location of the tumor and the medications he is now on, Jake has had some unfortunate symptoms present themselves that have restricted his mobility, breathing, and vision. It has been hard to see his childhood taken away from him, but through all of these changes, he has somehow found a way to keep a smile on his face and inspire everyone around him.

A Heartfelt Thank You

• I would like your readers to know of incredible kindness of the Ninth District and Commander Gorman after the unexpected loss of my sister, Alice Ostrega, a time keeper for 009. The support, generosity and professional courtesies shown by the Ninth left our family speechless and helped ease the pain of our loss. The turnout by so many Officers of Nine to express their sympathy warmed our hearts, and to know she had so many friends in Blue made us proud. A "Thank you" cannot begin to convey our gratitude to the men and women of the Ninth District

North Side Tragedy

A nightmare scenario:

• A retired Chicago homicide detective shot and killed his son after mistaking him for an intruder in his Northwest Side apartment early this morning, according to police and family.
  
  Michael Griffin, 48, was found shot once in the head a little after midnight in his father’s home in the 5300 block of North Delphia Avenue, police said.
  
  An autopsy performed today found Griffin died of a gunshot wound to the face and his death was declared a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
  
  The father, James Griffin, 77, was taken to Resurrection Hospital after complaining of chest pains, relatives said. No charges have been announced by police.

Thoughts and prayers for the family.

This was particularly bloody:

• Three men were gunned down in broad daylight outside a building on the South Side this afternoon, witnesses said.

  The attack happened at about 1 p.m. outside a large courtyard building at 7609-19 S. Coles, a few blocks from Rainbow Beach State Park.

  Neighbors said they heard rapid gunfire. Linda White, 27, said two men approached the three men with guns drawn and started shooting.

But don't worry!

• “Thank god we have cameras. They’ll find who did this,’’ said the woman, who identified herself only as Franny. Police had already requested the footage from the cameras, she said.

Cameras. Right. Prevent all sorts of crime, eh?

On the bright side, J-Fled has dispatched half-a-dozen gold stars to go to the south side and tell the gang leaders to "Knock it off!"

Everything should be quiet by this weekend. We swear!

It Began Last Night...

Only 6 shot!

• On another warm night in Chicago, at least six people were shot in four separate incidents on the South, West and North Sides, officials said.

Unfortunately, one of those shootings happened to be in the midst of Lincoln Park, that trendy urban oasis where violence is fairly rare, the nightlife is hopping and tourist dollars flow like water.

And those "wildings" we've been talking about for months now?

• Four teen boys and two girls -- all 15 years old -- were arrested and charged after allegedly hitting an 18-year-old girl from northwest suburban Barrington in the face near North Avenue Beach Monday night.
  
  
• The second incident occurred about 10 p.m. when two men jogging in an underground tunnel noticed a crowd going through the tunnel, according to a police report.
  
  When one runner said "on your right," while attempting to pass the crowd, Laverrick Crews, 19, allegedly struck that man in the back of the head with his hand, according to the report.

They're attacking the joggers and the suburban tourists. We fear it's just a matter of time before Chicago ends up with a "Central Park jogger" type scenario.
