Great Reporting....Not

So some media people got attacked over by the planetarium. First the offenders tried to sic a dog on them. Then they used racial epithets at the reporter. Then they destroyed the windshield of the news van, broke some equipment and drove off.

We thought, these are "reporters," you know - trained observers that ask, "Who, What, Where, When, How and Why" and then report it. Leaving aside they're likely left leaning, they still got what we describe as a "wake up call" regarding criminals. They weren't injured and the only damage was to corporate property.  We read the reporting carefully:

• A Chicago reporter and photographer were attacked while on assignment near Adler Planetarium on Monday afternoon. The incident happened just before 4:30 p.m. in the 900 block of East Solidarity Drive.

  Police said the two victims, who have not been identified, were approached by multiple men who got out of a white truck and yelled racial slurs at them.

Okay....they described the truck, so we know they aren't blind and they passed kindergarten. Who did this dastardly deed?

• One of the suspects then directed a dog to attack the victims. When the dog did not listen, the suspect became irate and damaged the victims’ property, according to police. After the confrontation, the suspects got back into the truck and drove away. Neither of the victims were injured.

  Chicago’s WBBM-TV reported that its photographer’s camera was smashed, along with the windshield of their news vehicle. A CBS spokesperson released a statement following the attack:

  “We are shocked and horrified by this crime and we are grateful that our journalists are safe.”

  Chicago police later said that officers were speaking with three persons of interest, though no charges have been announced. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

That's it. That's the extent of the WGN reporting of their fellow SeeBS reporters getting accosted, threatened and assaulted.

So we went over to the CWB site to see if there were any actual descriptions:

• Three men are in custody after a CBS2 reporting team was threatened and their news van was damaged near the Adler Planetarium on Monday afternoon, officials said. The men are also suspected of threatening other people with a rifle in other neighborhoods before and after the lakefront incident, according to an officer familiar with the investigation.

  Shortly before 4 p.m., a man reported to Chicago police that four Hispanic men in a white pickup truck-style tow truck threatened him and his girlfriend as they loaded jet skis into the water at the Daley Park boat ramp, 3150 South Western Avenue, the source said. The couple chose not to file a police report.

Well, there's the first description available. And the offenders had a rifle they threatened some other people with....WHO DECLINED TO PRESS CHARGES???

But wait....there's more:

• About 30 minutes later, police believe the same truck pulled in front of the news van, which was parked on the lakefront as a reporter and photographer prepared to go live for the 4:30 p.m. newscast, according to the station.

  [...] Officers who responded to the scene spoke with witnesses and the news crew and radioed descriptions of three men, all of whom were said to be White.

So the witnesses and reporters did give a description (which WGN didn't report) but they gave wrong descriptions. At least no one described a "red hat" being nearby when the racial slurs were hurled.

So much to unwrap here. 

Use of Force

Remember, cameras are everywhere....and so is social media:

In both of these, we can't see the police doing anything wrong. 

Are they less aggressive than CPD might have been in years past? Yep, but we didn't make those rules and we don't blame anyone for it. This is what the public and politicians demanded....and they deserve to get it good and hard.

Let them fight it out, body cam it all, then arrest the survivors if they're still around.

Still Not Deported

Remember, this is who Porkulous has decided is more important than actual citizens:

• A Venezuelan migrant accused of carrying a loaded handgun and an inert grenade aboard a CTA bus has received a one-year prison sentence but will not serve any additional time behind bars. Now, Jose Yepes is again wanted by authorities after failing to appear in court this month in a separate shoplifting case that has been pending since 2024, according to court records.

  Chicago police arrested the 29-year-old in August after officers were flagged down by a CTA bus driver who reported a battery in progress aboard the bus in the 7900 block of South Jeffrey Boulevard, according to a CPD arrest report. When officers boarded, they saw Yepes trying to exit. According to police, he “became wide-eyed and attempted to rush out of the bus.” Officers noticed a bulge in his waistband and detained him.

  Police said they recovered a loaded .380-caliber handgun from Yepes’ waistband and found a green grenade inside his crossbody bag. The CPD Bomb Squad determined the grenade was inert, meaning it was incapable of exploding. Even so, prosecutors initially charged Yepes with unlawful use of a bomb or grenade, an offense that applies to devices that resemble explosives, even if they cannot detonate. Authorities also discovered Yepes had an outstanding warrant after failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge. That warrant had been active since March 2024.

And now he's disappeared again.

But don't worry - he'll probably turn up to vote in November. 

This is Some Kind of Dumb

The new First Deputy:

• Ursitti!? The same one in charge of Training that refused to sign off on red dots for pistols because “what will happen if it cracks and the laser shoots out” Yes please lead the CPD lol 

We hadn't heard this one, but it sounds entertaining as heck. Kind of like that moron congress-critter who thought a Pacific island might tip over.

Political Season Underway

Quigley announced for mayor - he's there to split up the vote.

The Contrarian is pointing out a Madigan tool who thinks shes entitled to an easy pathway:

• There was a time in America when politicians understood that reelection was something they had to earn. They campaigned, made their case to the voters, served their terms, and then submitted themselves to the judgment of the electorate. Victory was never guaranteed. That uncertainty is not a flaw in democracy; it is one of democracy’s essential features. Yet in modern day Illinois, some politicians appear to hold a very different view.

  State Representative Angelica “Angelita” Guerrero-Cuellar (22) seems to believe reelection is not something to be earned but something to which she is entitled. Nothing illustrates that mentality more clearly than her lawsuit challenging Illinois’ Democratic redistricting map, a lawsuit that effectively complained one of the most aggressively gerrymandered states in America had not gerrymandered her district enough to guarantee her political future.

  That fact alone should tell voters everything they need to know. We are constantly told politicians are fighting for better schools, safer neighborhoods, affordable housing, and economic opportunity. Angelita had an opportunity to devote her political capital to any number of issues affecting the people she represents. Instead, she chose to fight over district lines. Not because the map disadvantaged Republicans. Not because it threatened minority representation generally. Not because it would somehow improve government. She fought it because she believed the map endangered her own political prospects. Strip away the legal arguments, and that’s what remains: a complaint that her seat was not safe enough to let her misrule with impunity.

In one of the most outrageously gerrymandered states, the loss of national representation is pitting dem against dem for seats they think they're entitled to instead of seats that represent the voters.

And without King Madigan around, the infighting is getting more intense.
