School Safety? Hahahahaha

And there it is - the real reason they wanted police out of schools:

• Chicago Public Schools is poised to cut in half the money and staff the district provided to some high schools after they removed police officers stationed at their campuses.

  High schools were given money roughly equivalent to a school resource officer’s annual salary in order to implement alternative approaches to safety, known as Whole School Safety Plans.

  A Chalkbeat analysis of the proposed 2026-27 budget found that funding for Whole School Safety Plans at 54 high schools would go from $8.7 million to $4 million and the number of positions would go from 80 to 42. Most schools would see a reduction from $160,000 or more to around $80,000 and the loss of roughly one position, under the proposed budget.

So they removed the actual police, hired cheaper staff with the "savings," then finally, cut the cheaper staff personnel to redirect the money to favored proommiesgrams.

The other reason tehey got rid of cops was because in certain situations, the cops are REQUIRED to take police action, i.e. arrest offenders....and that fed into the "school to prison pipeline" nonsense the demo-lib-commie narrative was preaching. 

Can't have kids thinking they might go to jail for criminal offenses ya know. Gotta get that entitlement thought process indoctrinated as soon as possible.

Just What We Needed

More taxes!

• If you’re shopping this weekend, you will be paying a little more in sales tax. 

  Beginning Saturday, sales tax across the city of Chicago and five collar counties will increase. It’s no secret that living in certain parts of Illinois, things can add up fast. And the state’s tax hike story continues. 

  “It’s kind of gut-wrenching, I think that is going to affect things, and it’s really hard, it’s egregious, actually,” said Sara Plocker, owner of local boutique Sara Jane.

  The business owner referenced Senate Bill 2111, which passed in Springfield last October. The bill raises the sales tax from 10.25% to 10.50%.

Still amazing how no one in government thinks of cost cutting, but goes right to the taxpayer wallets, and then claim that Trump is making it harder on working families to afford living here.....just like in New York and California, too. 

Reap What is Sown

Back on 14 July, we wrote a post about this ATV versus SUV accident:

The woman driving the ATV on the sidewalk t-boned an SUV, disregarding the traffic signal (and the law about ATV's on city streets) and died. Darwin wins again.

And on 10 June, we had this item, asking if this was legal:

Of course it isn't, but we were being sarcastic.

Because CPD isn't supposed to chase for traffic, isn't supposed to pursue over misdemeanors, and has been restricted from even following fleeing motorcycles for any pretty much any any reason whatsoever lest there be a crash.

End result? 

• no pursuit is interpreted as no consequences, 
• no fear of being stopped leads to more law breaking

And now, Chicagoans reap the whirlwind:

• A woman riding her bike on the Lakefront Trail suffered catastrophic injuries after a man on a motorized dirt bike crashed into her in the Gold Coast, according to Chicago police, who are now trying to track him down.

  The crash happened around 3:47 p.m. on July 20, when the 45-year-old woman was riding along the trail just south of North Avenue. Police said a man wearing a black ski mask and dark clothing was riding a yellow dirt bike recklessly when he struck her.

  The woman’s injuries were serious enough that Chicago police turned the investigation over to the department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit, which handles the most severe crashes.

Who should society blame (besides the guy wearing a ski mask in the middle of summer)?

• The crash is a flashpoint in what’s become a growing complaint from regulars on the 18-mile trail: motorized vehicles speeding along a path where they don’t belong. The trail was built for walkers, joggers, and bicyclists moving under their own power. But those users increasingly find themselves on the lookout as people riding motorized bikes and skateboard-style devices zip along at breakneck speeds.

  Pedal-assist e-bikes get some of the blame, particularly when riders strip out the devices that are supposed to cap how fast they can go. But the bigger worry, according to those who use the trail regularly, is heavier, faster machines that don’t belong on a bike path at all: gas-powered minibikes, electric dirt bikes, mopeds and electric motorcycles built to look like bicycles — some of which exceed 40 mph. Those devices also accelerate faster and weigh more than standard bikes, raising the stakes when something goes wrong, as it did on July 20.

Until someone invents something that disables these types of vehicles (ATVs, cycles, scooters, e-bikes, etc) expect more of it with proportional body counts.

In the meantime, maybe a clothesline at neck level would discourage this behavior? 

New Meaning to "Tree Police"

They never had this job around when we were rookies:

• Drivers could not beat around the bush when it came to being charged with distracted driving in a New Jersey suburb this week as a cop disguised himself as a shrub to spot motorists on their phones while behind the wheel.

  The Dunellen police officer camouflaged himself and employed a pair of binoculars to covertly execute  the distracted-driving enforcement operation in the town of 8,000 about 30 miles from New York City.

There's even a picture:

We'd agree with arguments that this is nothing more than a money grab by the Dunellen, New Jersey PD and local government (the fines start at $200 and escalate from there). But we've also seen more than enough distracted drivers hitting, injuring and killing people to say something ought to be done.

It's going to be a good Christmas at the Waller house this holiday season:

• A key member of a Chicago police oversight body urged the City Council Wednesday to postpone the search for a permanent replacement for retired Police Supt. Larry Snelling until after the mayoral election.

  As president of the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability, Anthony Driver led the nationwide search that culminated in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s selection of Snelling. Driver stepped down as president to mount what turned out to be a losing race for Congress, but he is still a commission member involved in the search for Snelling’s replacement.

  In a letter to City Council members Wednesday, Driver asked that the Nov. 12 deadline for the commission to complete a nationwide search, interview candidates and present the names of three finalists to Johnson be put off until spring — after Chicagoans choose their next mayor.

The main reason is - of course - that no "qualified" candidates are going to hitch their wagon to an employment offer that might last five or six months depending if Conehead even runs or (god forbid) wins.

Our readers pointed that out over a month ago.

In the meantime, Waller will continue to double-dip with a six-digit salary on top of a six-digit pension while another six-digit salaried First Deputy isn't allowed to fulfill her actual job description of running the Department absent a superintendent.

Thank goodness Chicago doesn't have any money problems! 

School Drones?

It's amusing that anyone thinks this might actually work:

• Schools in Florida, Georgia, and Colorado will begin deploying drones designed to confront active shooters.

  The drones will be put into play as soon as the upcoming school year, marking one of the latest efforts by school officials to use emerging technology to bolster campus security, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.

  At least nine schools — three in Florida, five in Georgia, and one in Colorado — will be equipped with nonlethal drones developed by Austin-based Mithril Defense.

How "non-lethal" are these allegedly going to be?

• The drones, stored in on-campus docking stations, can be activated by teachers through a mobile app or classroom panic button and are designed to reach a reported shooter within 15 seconds.

  Operated remotely by professional drone pilots, the aircraft are equipped with flashing strobe lights, sirens, pepper gel dispensers and the ability to ram a suspect at speeds of up to 60 mph. They are also capable of breaking windows if necessary to reach a target.

A couple thoughts here - such as "What determines the schools that these drones will be deployed?" Schools with a history of violence? Because the schools that get labelled as violent aren't the schools that end up with mass shooters - look it up. And then this:

• "....stored in on-campus docking stations..." We'll give it 72 hours before some of the little angels damage, steal or hijack the drones;
• "Operated remotely by professional drone pilots..." It's a government program, so there will be government unions in play, meaning breaks, lunch hours, limited OT, along with failed maintenance schedules, outdated software/hardware, inevitable breakdowns going un-repaired by other union shops, etc. For obvious real world examples, look at Fleet Management here;
• "...ram a suspect at speeds of up to 60 mph." Really? A hunk of plastic, ceramic and metal ramming a human body at high speed is going to be "non-lethal." By the way, we've got a bridge to sell you.

Now it's time to roll out the lying statistics:

• According to a Washington Post tracker, nearly 400,000 students have experienced gun violence at school since the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, with 435 school shootings recorded during that period.

Bullshit - those numbers cover all incidents on (or near) a campus, even those that occur at 0200 hours on a Saturday night that had nothing to do with school or students from a particular campus. The real numbers are closer to under 100 per year.

And it's not gun violence....it's gang violence.

• Two additional Florida schools — one near Fort Lauderdale and another in Tallahassee — will participate in the state's $557,000 pilot program funded by lawmakers.

Could you name the lawmakers and how much each contributed? Oh, it isn't lawmakers? It's TAX PAYER money and it's being shoveled to someone who does a flashy presentation, but is short on the details for this fantasy experience.

• Mithril Defense founder and CEO Justin Marston said the idea grew out of the 2022 shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 students and two teachers were killed while law enforcement officers waited more than an hour before confronting the gunman.

  Marston said seeing inexpensive drones used extensively in the Russia-Ukraine war convinced him that a nonlethal version could help save lives during the critical first moments of an active shooting.

That is one helluva leap, seeing as how all the Russia-Ukraine footage involves drones carrying either a grenade or a shaped charge, designed to have a sizeable lethal blast radius....and someone thinks they can reduce that to a non-lethal response with any sort of accuracy?

It would be far cheaper to install reinforced doors, better security screening, and :::gasp!::: armed teachers. 

But it's newsmax.com and they're retarded in the extreme.

Conehead's Corpses Hit 90

And still no word on a ShotSpotter replacement:

• A 17-year-old boy found lying in the middle of a South Side street overnight had been shot multiple times, Chicago police said, but detectives are still trying to determine exactly when the shooting occurred. Nobody called 911 to report gunfire in the area. And the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system that once covered the neighborhood was removed nearly two years ago by Mayor Brandon Johnson, despite opposition from a City Council supermajority that included local Ald. Gregory Mitchell.

  At about 1:28 a.m., a passerby called 911 to report a person lying in the street in the 8300 block of South Oglesby Avenue, police said. When Chicago Fire Department personnel arrived, they discovered the victim had been shot and summoned CPD. He was later found to have suffered nine gunshot wounds.

As said numerous times, if the 'hood don't care, then we can't be bothered to care.

But it's still a fun stick to poke Conehead with.

Problems with Supernintendo Search

God forbid you have diversity of opinion in searching for the next leader of the CPD.

And Lord help you if someone who actually supports the Police is part of that decision making process - the communists, socialists and asshole democrats can't have that:

• A bitter internal dispute has erupted inside the city’s police oversight commission as a majority of members are trying to remove one of two commissioners leading the search for Chicago’s next police superintendent, threatening to inject political infighting into one of the city’s most consequential decisions.

  Multiple sources told CWBChicago that a majority of the seven-member Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability wants attorney and former CPD civilian director Sandra Wortham removed from the two-person superintendent search work group.

And why remove Ms. Wortham?

• During that hearing, an audience member described feeling intimidated when an officer shined a flashlight into her vehicle during a traffic stop. Wortham thanked the woman for her comments, empathized, and explained that officers shine lights into vehicles to keep the area illuminated in case someone has a weapon, according to people who attended the meeting. Those remarks drew a chilly response from fellow commissioners and members of the audience.

  At the time, the commission was considering recommendations that would have limited police officers’ ability to conduct pretextual traffic stops. Wortham, who is Black, spent most of her life living in Chicago’s Black communities, and previously served as a CPD civilian deputy director, publicly opposed limiting traffic stops. CWBChicago later reported that the commission’s own polling found most Chicagoans agreed with her position.

  Supporters of Wortham suspect her colleagues’ real motives are political, an effort to remove the commission’s only voice with direct law enforcement experience, and the only perspective that differs from the majority’s. In addition to being a former CPD civilian employee, Wortham is the daughter of a retired CPD sergeant and the sister of a slain Chicago police officer.

  Lending some credence to the suspicions of a political motivation: one commissioner told CWBChicago on Wednesday that they believe Wortham “is biased toward conservative” viewpoints and has a “biased lens.”

So suspected conservatives don't deserve a place - or a voice - on a committee that will chose the next figurehead to run the Department. Even if she's a highly educated black woman with a law degree, she is polluted by her association with Police relatives, including her brother who was killed in the Line of Duty.

You are a non-entity in blue city blue state shitholes.

Class Action Proceeds

This is why you don't chase numbers for bosses any more:

• A federal judge has allowed a major civil rights lawsuit challenging Chicago Police Department traffic stop practices to move forward on behalf of thousands of Black and Latino drivers, marking the latest chapter in a legal battle over how and why the department conducts street and vehicle stops.

  In a ruling issued Monday, U.S. District Judge Mary Rowland certified a class of Black and Latino individuals who have been stopped by Chicago police since June 2021, or who may be stopped in the future. The plaintiffs are not seeking monetary damages but rather want the court to order CPD to change practices they contend disproportionately target Black and Latino motorists.

Ah yes, the "targeted" traffic stop allegation, probably hte only thing to ever come out of then-Senator Sparklefart's TSSSSSSSSSS cards.

• While the ruling does not determine whether the city violated the law, Rowland’s opinion places the current dispute in the context of more than four decades of challenges to Chicago police stop practices.

  The judge wrote that Black and Latino Chicagoans have repeatedly accused the department of discriminatory stop programs dating to the 1980s. According to the opinion, lawsuits from that era challenged aggressive pedestrian stops that often led to disorderly conduct arrests. In the 1990s, attention shifted to enforcement of Chicago’s gang loitering ordinance, which the U.S. Supreme Court found to be overly vague and unconstitutional.

We'll leave it to the readers to figure out what the demographics are for criminals, but the sheer volume of bad law passed by supposedly intelligent legislators has always been amazing.

But here's where Officers should be warned (again) about chasing numbers:

• By 2014, Chicago police officers were stopping, questioning and sometimes frisking more than 718,000 people annually, with more than 90% of those stopped identified as Black or Latino. Following criticism from civil rights groups, an ACLU report and subsequent litigation, the number of pedestrian stops fell dramatically. By 2017, annual stops had dropped to roughly 100,000.

  But while street stops plunged, traffic stops immediately skyrocketed. Beginning around 2016, Chicago police shifted toward large-scale traffic enforcement, particularly on the South and West sides. Traffic stops rose from about 83,000 in 2014 to nearly 600,000 by 2019, according to figures cited in the opinion. Plaintiffs contend the department effectively replaced widespread pedestrian stops with widespread vehicle stops, using minor traffic violations as a pretext to investigate drivers for guns, drugs and other criminal activity.

This crap about "pretextual stops" being "racist" has always been such bullshit. Every single instance is still a violation of the Law, passed by the legislature and signed by the executive branch. If they don't want it enforced for political reasons, then they have the ability and power to rescind the Law that they created, or create a list of Laws that will not be enforced by the Police if a certain racial or ethnic group violates the statute. 

We can all enjoy the two-and-three-tiered justice system together!

Body Cam Proves Lies....Again

A criminal making false statements against the police? The "media" reporting these lies as fact?

CWB destroys the Fox "News" report by requesting the body camera footage - something Fox should have done before airing the lies:

• Police body camera footage appears to contradict parts of a television news report in which a Chicago man claimed CPD officers beat and wrongly arrested him while he was trying to rescue his younger brother from a Fourth of July “teen takeover.”

  Quotangelo Temple, 19, was featured by Fox Chicago four days after his arrest in the 1200 block of South Fairfield Avenue. The station’s story, headlined “Chicago football player alleges police beat him while rescuing younger brother during teen takeover,” centered on Temple’s claim that he went to the gathering only to retrieve his 16-year-old brother.

  “I was just trying to get my little brother out of there,” Temple told Fox Chicago. He denied striking any officer and said he wished police had “approached me differently.” “The disregard of what they had going on, how they was frustrated with the kids and all that stuff, that don’t mean just take that anger out on me,” Temple said.

Um....you don't get to "rescue" someone who is being arrested - that's a charge unto itself dumbass.

But guess what CWB discovered when the body cam footage was viewed?

• After reviewing Fox Chicago’s report, CWB Chicago filed a public records request seeking all Chicago Police Department body-worn camera footage related to Temple’s arrest and the criminal charges filed against him. CPD released one body camera recording last week.

  In that footage, the man CPD identifies as Temple is not wearing the clothing shown in Fox Chicago’s report. Instead, he is wearing a black T-shirt with a white and red design, jean shorts, and red athletic shoes. Temple’s mugshot from July 4th also shows him wearing a black T-shirt.

  As the CPD clip begins, the man police identified as Temple walks quickly around the back of a parked SUV and advances briskly toward a group of officers. An officer almost immediately pushes him back, telling him to “back up, back up,” and a physical struggle begins.

So HE approached aggressively. 

HE disregarded legal, lawful and proper orders to cease his advance and return to the sidewalk.

HE grabs an Officer by his vest.

HE continues the attack by swinging his fists before being subdued and arrested. 

Too bad he didn't get tasered. 

But kudos to CWB for doing the job the "media" doesn't even bother to do any more. 

More Signs? Seriously?

The City even threatens businesses with all sorts of licensing hurdles, procedural stumbling blocks or premise inspections if they decline to post these signs, all in an effort to make Chicago the most gun-unfriendly city in existence, all while gun crime remains steadily persistent and homicide totals are regularly at the top of the national numbers.

You know what we need now? More signs!

• Cook County State's Attorney Eileen O'Neill Burke is launching a public service campaign across the Chicago Transit Authority system aimed at warning people who commit violent crimes on buses and trains that her office will seek pretrial detention.

  The campaign will place signs on CTA buses and trains as part of an ongoing effort to reduce crime on public transit.

  "It is a sign Eileen O'Neill Burke hopes anyone boarding a CTA bus or riding a train will read in detail," according to the announcement of the campaign.

  O'Neill Burke said the signs are intended to send a message to potential offenders.

This is a really dumb idea, a significant misstep by O'Neill Burke.

First up, that's a BIG leap, assuming criminals (A) can read and (B) would take time from searching for victims to brush up on potential consequences.

Second, criminals know with 100% certainty that even if they're caught committing a crime, they'll be out on a SAFE-T Act release within hours, BECAUSE THEY SEE IT ALL THE TIME.

Hell, all we have to do is scan the first ten pages of the CWB blog and we can find almost twenty stories about CTA crime by persons out on parole, out on no-bail provisions, or escaped from EM bracelets. 

After all those signs that don't keep the CTA gun-free, anyone with a brain knows that new signs explaining non-existent consequences aren't going to do much either.

• A man with a long, violent criminal history who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for attacking a 94-year-old woman during a home invasion in 2016, but was released after serving less than half of that sentence, is now accused of attacking and robbing two more women in their 60s on the Northwest Side.

  Olajuwon Claiborne, a 36-year-old whose tattoos include one stretched across his chest reading, “I can do all things through Christ,” is charged with two counts of robbery of a victim older than 60, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, and unlawful possession of a credit card.

• Possible human remains were found in a South Side alley on Monday morning, Chicago police said.

  Police said the remains were found in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood's 300-block of East 68th Street just before 9:30 a.m.

If it isn't identifiable, then it's been there a while.

It certainly pays to be connected:

• Newly installed interim Chicago Police Supt. Fred Waller is collecting an annual city taxpayer-funded pension of $141,608 while he has been earning more than $210,648 per year as a deputy director, bringing his total annual compensation to $352,256, according to records obtained by WTTW News.

  Waller, 64, has now twice served as CPD’s interim leader, first leading the department from May 2023 to September 2023 before Mayor Brandon Johnson picked Larry Snelling as the city’s top cop. After Snelling took office, Waller stayed on to advise Snelling, serving as deputy director in the superintendent’s office, records show.

  Waller has received pension payments of more than $11,500 per month since he retired on Aug. 15, 2020, and they will continue for the rest of his life, according to records obtained by WTTW News from the Policemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago. Annually, Waller’s pension increases by 3% to cover any increase in the cost of living, records show. He received a pension payment in June, according to documents obtained by WTTW News through a Freedom of Information Act request submitted to the police pension fund.

How many "merit" bumps?

Well then, please list the "other ways" the police could have stopped the vehicle.

And while you're listing the reasons, please explain why a fourteen-year-old minor child was out at 2:00 AM with people (or folks) pointing a rifle at citizens.

• A man was hospitalized after he was shot by someone on a scooter Sunday night in the Austin neighborhood, Chicago police said.

  The 35-year-old was outside about 10:15 p.m. in the 900 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue when a male gunman on a scooter opened fire in his direction, police said in a statement.

  The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds , police said. He was listed in fair condition. Police reported no arrests.

And yet another ILLEGAL ALIEN culturally enriching Chicago:

• A Venezuelan migrant has been ordered detained after prosecutors accused him of dragging a Chicago police officer with a car during a South Side traffic stop, then biting and punching officers while threatening to kill one of them.

  Jose Yorwin Marquez, 22, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, two counts of resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and multiple traffic violations, including driving without ever having been issued a driver’s license.

Remember, this is who Fata$$ is protecting and who Conehead is spending countless million on.

So What's the Actual Problem?

This might be a bit dark, but there need to be more prisons like this:

• Around 10 p.m., a haze of gray smoke wafted down a hallway lined with prison cells at the Joliet Treatment Center. The window of cell A9 began to glow red as the fire within grew. Jason Stephens was locked inside. Minutes ticked by, and the smoke became so thick you could not see more than a few feet. No one came to let Stephens out.

  There have been more than 70 fires at the facility in the last three years, according to an investigation by The Marshall Project, WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times. That includes a dozen cases in which men incarcerated there set themselves on fire.

  The Joliet Treatment Center opened in 2017 with the promise of being a new kind of prison in Illinois, designed to provide intensive mental health treatment. But in the years leading up to that night in the summer of 2024, incarcerated men and civil rights lawyers who visited the facility said the conditions declined. Men were kept locked in their cells for long stretches, with nothing to do. They complained about a lack of medical care and mental health treatment, which the prison system is legally obligated to provide. Men reported that guards used excessive force.

  As the men grew more despondent, some became willing to do anything to draw attention to their troubles and resorted to setting their cells — or themselves — on fire.

Sounds like a win. 

Prison is supposed to be restrictive and depressing so that inmates don't want to return to it and they make the effort to not go back. 

If they do go back - and the recidivism rate seems to imply a lot of them do - then the prison obviously didn't make a bad enough impression on them so that they improve their lives, get jobs and contribute to society.

Self immolation seems like a decent outcome....for the taxpayer at least.
