More PPP Fraud?

Prickwrinkle still avoiding scrutiny though:

• Cook County employees are suspected of stealing more than $1.2 million from the federal government’s Paycheck Protection Program created in 2020 to bail out struggling businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  On Friday, interim Cook County Inspector General Steven Cyranoski released a report for the fourth quarter of 2023 detailing $300,000 of PPP fraud involving seven health department employees and a facilities management worker.

  In prior quarterly reports since July 2022, Cyranoski has said he suspected at least 31 other county workers had committed PPP fraud. The fraud documented in all of his reports adds up to more than $1.2 million.

And the Slum Times mentions....the cops of course:

• In Chicago, City Hall’s inspector general is continuing to investigate whether hundreds of city employees, including cops and firefighters, ripped off the program.

  Few public employees in Chicago suspected of Paycheck Protection Program fraud have faced criminal charges. One noteworthy exception was a federal indictment against two cops accused of stealing more than $2 million from the program. One of the officers retired two weeks before he was charged last year.

Previous articles have mentioned somewhere around 1,000 city workers, but the number of firings is minuscule and those facing actual criminal charges less than that. 

We're still waiting for the hammer to drop on thirty or more OEMC employees at some point.

Pritzker the Pu$$y

Old and Busted:

• Governor JB Pritzker today (02 Aug 21) signed HB 121, SB 667, SB 1596 and SB 2665 into law, legislation expanding protections for immigrant and refugee communities and further establishing Illinois as the most welcoming state in the nation. The new laws strengthen the TRUST Act and make Illinois the second state in the nation to require local officials to end partnerships with ICE, address hate crimes against immigrant communities, expand workplace protections for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, and create the Illinois Immigration Impact Task Force to ensure state programs and policies best serve immigrant residents.

  Governor Pritzker also signed an executive order creating the Welcoming Illinois Office, to report to the Office of the Governor and the Secretary of the Department of Human Services while being housed and supported by the Department of Human Services. The Office will work to coordinate, develop and implement policies and practices to make Illinois a more welcoming and equitable state for immigrants and refugees. The Office will be led by the Senior Immigration Fellow.

New and Improved:

• Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has an odd way of asking for mercy. He sent a letter to Governor Abbott asking that he stop sending the migrant buses to his sanctuary state during the bitterly cold winter weather.

  Pritzker sent the letter to Abbott on Friday. He began by saying he “pleads for mercy” for the illegal aliens. He asked Abbott to stop drop-offs during dangerous winter storms. He said winter weather threatens vulnerable people. He asked that Abbott stop sending buses to Illinois. And, he mentioned the winter storm moving in this weekend which will bring low temperatures and snow.

  The governor wants “mercy” yet he couldn’t help himself when it came to blasting Abbott in his letter.

So Fata$$ signed four separate pieces of legislation AND an Executive Order in August 2021 establishing a "sanctuary state." Then, when thousands of illegals sign letters of intent to relocate to Illinois (and Texas generously pays for their bus transportation), Fata$$ whines about it because it might be cold?

How about asking the potato-head administration to close the border to provide some relief? Those are the ones in charge of national borders. 

Texas is winning and Fata$$ just admitted it.

Third Rail Politics

Nationally, it's anything to do with Social Security.

Locally, it's remapping the police Districts.

Someone is daring to touch it:

• More than a half-dozen local and state officials gathered on the Southwest Side Thursday to call for the Chicago Police Department’s Chicago Lawn District (8th) to be split in two to better serve the quarter-million residents of the area.

  “To say we are overdue for more police support is an understatement,” Ald. Marty Quinn, 13th, told reporters and more than 50 area residents during a Thursday morning news conference at the Chicago Public Library’s Clearing Branch.

  “The 8th District ranks number one for all crimes committed across the city of Chicago. The 8th District, the one we’re standing in today, is the biggest and busiest district in the city.”

That might be a slight exaggeration (in terms of busiest), but truly, 008 is far too big to be patrolled effectively. But so is 016. And what is the common denominator?

• massive numbers of active and retired officers who for years, kept these two districts stable (for lack of a better word)

But with manpower diminishing and more retirees vacating the area, this isn't true any more. And just splitting 008 (and 016) into smaller areas means four poorly patrolled Districts.\

The Department should have been re-mapping every ten years or so along with the census as neighborhoods expanded, contracted, experienced demographic and density changes. Once the projects came down, 002 should have been first on the re-mapping table, followed by any District that lost high rises and gained "scattered site" housing. Simply combining 012 and 013 was an error with the station being a half hour away for any car on the north end.

Re-mapping would have made sense AND gotten people used to the idea that things change instead of being stuck with the mindset that "it's always been this way."

Can it be fixed?

Water Cooler Talk

Someone wrote this in a comment in the Fauci post:

• Been reading the blog for over a decade. It’s your blog, you can do whatever you want and I’ll still read it everyday. But the consensus I’ve been hearing around the water cooler at work is go back to the bread and butter, department rumors and boss bashing.

What District has a water cooler? Or what floor at HQ?

Whatever, we appreciate constructive criticism from where ever to keep the interest of the readers.

But we did a rough count of our January posts and found out of fifty-ish posts:

We thought it has been a pretty balanced January all-in-all. We don't have a water cooler, just a coffee spot and a bar. And believe it or not, cops actually care about politics at all levels, especially when so many political decisions affect our kids education, our tax bills, our bodily autonomy, our district lobbies, etc.

You're welcome to skip the posts that don't interest you. You're welcome to submit stories and rumors for us to look at and perhaps write about.

Fair warning though - as the 2024 election approaches and the next "plandemic" is implemented and cops are expected (ordered) to perform certain functions (even Constitutionally questionable functions), we're going to be writing until they don't allow us to.

Twenty....Minus One

The newly promoted lieutenants had a field trip this past week.  As you may or may not know, all promotional classes make trip to the Holocaust Museum. So in the middle of a snowstorm, the class went north.

All except one, who actually mentioned to the class that it was "beneath him to attend."

Must be nice to be that special.

What is Unit 132 anyway?

Judge Rips Crimesha

We referenced this story a few weeks back, but CWB dives into a massive conflict of interest originally reported on by Marty Prieb:

• Dante Brown waited more than ten years for a judge to reconsider the life-without-parole sentence he received for a double murder in Chicago in 2009.

  The case eventually found its way to Judge Michael McHale, who, on November 17, granted Brown a new sentencing hearing. The state, represented by Asst. State’s Attorney Michelle Mbekeani, had agreed with Brown’s defense team that a new hearing should be held, McHale’s order said.

The judge held a hearing to address claims that Mbekeani - an assistant states attorney - was running a side hustle linking previously convicted felons with private law firms to claim that they were framed....for profit.

• The judge had read our story.

  “You were quoted as saying, Period is not a real business. Is that correct?” McHale asked. “You explained that was merely a concept that you had developed last spring for that same business class mentioned before. Correct?”

  “Correct,” replied Mbekeani to both questions.

  “You told the CWB reporter that the company had never been legally formed, right?” McHale continued.

  “Period? Yeah, Period. Not legally formed, correct,” Mbekeani replied.

  After many more questions, including several about the company website, which McHale said he printed out before it was taken offline, the judge revealed that he found active Articles of Incorporation for a company called Due Tech Process Corporation, previously known as Period.

  McHale said that Mbekeani is listed as the company’s CEO, president, director, and registered agent.

As we said before, sounds like someone should be disbarred and be facing charges herself.

Judge McHale got in a helluva dig at Crimesha though:

• He saved a few words for Mbekeani’s boss, Kim Foxx, though: “So, to some degree, I do sympathize with you, counsel, because in my opinion, Ms. Foxx basically set you up for failure because this was such a blatantly obvious conflict of interest that I find it shocking that she didn’t see it coming. But, indeed, as we’ve seen before, Ms. Foxx’s knowledge of conflicts law is not the best.”

Gee, we guess the judge is at least passingly familiar with the case for that French actor - Juicy Smollet (link NOT safe for work) - that Crimesha attempted to carry out for Tina Chen and (indirectly) Mrs Sparklefarts.

Snow-mageddon

In the midst of all the "global warming," Chicago is expecting a boatload of snow starting today, and then temps dipping down to sub-zero levels. Panic has set in among the illegals and those catering to the illegals.

Daytime temperatures for the next eight days in Venezuela are expected to be anywhere from 83 to 91 degrees with nighttime lows in the mid-60s.

She spends her spare time surfing the internet trying to find mentions of her case on the web and then threatens them for daring to link to a publicly accessible document.

On an unrelated note, "Jennifer Koniarski" is still a Google Top Three search result when you type the name plus "threats to blog."

Bad Week for Dr. Ouchie

The more time passes, the more the conspiracy theorists look like the smartest people in the room:

• Former White House science advisor Anthony Fauci testified behind closed doors before the House Coronavirus Select Subcommittee and, as usual, did his best to muddy the waters.

  Did you ever wonder what science the six-foot social distancing rule was based on? Astonishingly, Dr. Fauci is wondering the same thing.

  The six-foot rule "just sort of appeared," according to a summary of Fauci's testimony released by the select committee's chairman, Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R–Ohio).

  Fauci also grudgingly acknowledged that the lab-leak theory was "not a conspiracy theory," but he continuously claimed he "didn't recall" certain information or "didn't recollect" it.

Whoa, careful there "doc!" That sort of talk can get you banned on social media!

And building on the "lab leak" theory:

• Now corrupt lying Fauci claims he never read research proposals before signing off on them.. a far cry from “Senator Paul we have NEVER funded gain of function research in Wuhan.” Fauci is responsible for the deaths of millions and the Dems are covering for him.

So "gain of function" turns out to have been funded by Fauci, who "didn't read" the proposals before shipping off samples to unregulated labs in Wuhan. That's quite a number of lies told to Congress, which is a crime for anyone....except democrats.

Makes you wonder when the Truth Commissions will start up and we can find out who was pushing untested poisons on healthy persons....and when we can start assessing damages.

Steal This Idea Conehead

New York is closing a school and sending the kids home for "remote learning."

Guess why?

• There’s a major storm headed for New York City and that means migrants who are currently living in a tent camp on federal land in Brooklyn need to be moved somewhere else for their own safety. Here’s an aerial shot showing Floyd Bennet Field which is now the site of a large tent camp. This local news report is from last Sep. 15. before the camp was set up.

  No one has really been happy about the accommodations at Floyd Bennet Field, including the migrants. When they were first moved to the site back in November, many of them took one look at the tents and got back on the bus.

  There was a big storm last month that shook the tents and scared people who were staying there. It seems the city has decided not to take the risk this time. Because of the potential for high winds and/or flooding the migrants are being moved to a safer site overnight. That site is a local high school which will have students go remote to make room for the migrants.

Actually this sounds like a great idea that the CTU could get behind. After all, there were teachers phoning it in from Caribbean island vacations during the plandemic. With the cold weather next week, we imagine a whole bunch more would jump at the chance to get out of town to somewhere warm.

And a humble suggestion to Conehead - consider making it a permanent solution. We know where there are over 5,600 spots to store illegals right here in town (click for larger version):

The top five schools there are horribly under-utilized. You could cut a few hundred teaching and support staff spots to save millions, warehouse a few thousands illegals and spend the money on them.

SDI Over?

Supposedly, SDI has been cancelled. Meanwhile, certain Districts are handing out OT pretty consistently.

SDI will be back if the retirement numbers we're seeing out of Personnel are near accurate. Over 1,000 this year. 

Besides, with the sub-zero week coming up, there really isn't a need for SDI until the weather warms up....same as a few years ago.

Shooter was....A Fugitive

Were the feds actively looking for this guy?

• The man accused of shooting a Chicago police officer and trying to shoot another cop after participating in a smash-and-grab burglary of the Prada store has been AWOL for more than three years from a federal gun case, according to court records.

  Deshawn Lucas, who was shot and critically injured during the confrontation with CPD officers, is the first person accused of shooting, killing, or trying to shoot or kill someone in Chicago this year while awaiting trial for a felony.

  Officials announced a host of charges against Lucas on Wednesday morning, including two counts of attempted murder.

Three years on the run? Were all their resources diverted to looking for "insurrectionists"?

Paying for Non-Residents

Tying into yesterday's post about pissing away money, here's another way CPS is footing the bill for kids who don't even live in the city:

• A north suburban Lincolnwood family improperly sent their two kids to a Chicago Public Schools selective-enrollment elementary school for six years.

  Then, once it was time for high school, the family moved into the city but lied about living in a lower-income neighborhood to boost the children’s chances of getting into a selective-enrollment high school.

  That’s according to an investigation done by the CPS Office of the Inspector General, which detailed the findings in its annual report released Tuesday.

  From May 2014 until August 2020, the family violated the student residency requirements of CPS by enrolling their kids at Decatur Classical Elementary in West Rogers Park, investigators found. The school sits a few blocks from neighboring suburb Lincolnwood, where the family lived.

How bad are Lincolnwood schools that this family would lie about residency to send their kids to CPS?

The head of the teachers' union won't even send her kids to CPS.

Then again, wasn't it billionaire Governor Rauner who rented an apartment in Chicago so his teenager had a city address to go to a selective enrollment high school?

The karma-train rolled around on this moron (CWB reporting):

• The commander of a downtown Chicago police district was slapped with a 7-day suspension for inaccurately claiming that crime was down in his district and that he was responsible for it.

  We told you about Cmdr. David Harris’ bombastic claims the day after he spewed them during an interview with WLS-AM talk show host Steve Cochran.

  “Yeah. I took over in June, and since then, overall crime is down 44%,” Harris boasted, even though crime reports were higher every month under his command than the year before.

  “That’s huge,” Cochran replied.

  “Wow,” echoed his cohost.

  Cochran wanted to know how the incredible improvement came to be.

  “Well, I’m gonna have to brag a little bit,” Harris replied. “One, my leadership.”

  In fact, we reported that crime reports in Harris’ district were not down 44% since he took command. They were up 30%.

Dave has always been a self-promoting asshole. And he wasn't shy about it. He wasn't shy about begging for assignments here and there and then making fun of whomever moved/promoted him. He played Phil Cline like a fiddle....or maybe a stand-up bass. Phil wasn't small enough to be a fiddle.

Long time readers might also recall that this mope was one of the ones going to have the blog shut down on his watch, perhaps when he was a lieutenant passing through HQ? Again, we're going to have to search through the archives, but as we approach the finish line, we're probably having the last laugh.

We've also stored away a shit-ton of emails about Dave and his....proclivities perhaps? Oh the stories we could tell....and numerous people have told us.

Since the media is helping cover up anything embarrassing to Conehead and his incompetent administration, we're just keeping a running list of on-going "un-resolved"scandals:

• the head of IAD "lending" her car to her niece and niece getting arrested transporting heroin;
• Comiskey Park shooting where a CPS teacher (living outside the city) sneaks a gun into a Major League ballpark and suffers a negligent discharge;
• Xmas party traffic crash killing an out-of-town tourist;
• high ranking CFD exempt (living outside the city) blackmailed into hiring an unqualified criminal over a sex scandal where a confrontation was recorded on a doorbell cam;
• UPDATE: 016 tact officer arrested by suburban cops for child porn;
  

But on the "resolved" side of the ledger:

• connected toe-sucker, sexual assaulter, fellatio-ist, prisoner raper got probation

If we troll through our own archives, we'd probably find a few more.

Some said it would have been a lot better for the rank-and-file if the Department had let everyone know prior to furlough picks. The truly dedicated would have scheduled some intense study sessions around their vacation time.

Off Duty Shoots Back

Looks like no hits, no runs, no errors:

• The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating after an off-duty Chicago police officer was involved in a Tuesday afternoon shooting on the city's Southwest Side.

  CPD said it happened in the 7200 block of South Spaulding Avenue in the city's Chicago Lawn neighborhood.

  An off-duty officer encountered an armed person, and there was an exchange of gunfire, police said. The armed person fled the scene, and no injuries were reported.

Looks like thirty days off the street though - not a bad deal with the weather coming in next week.

Pissing Away Money

Remember this when the schools raise their portion of the property taxes to the max limit again:

• Thrust into online learning during the pandemic, Chicago Public Schools spent hundreds of millions in federal COVID-19 relief money on laptops and other devices over the past few years, heralding a monumental shift for a school system in which computer access was limited to one where it’s now plentiful.

  But CPS dived headlong out of the tech dark ages without strong tracking systems and has failed to upgrade them in recent years. Now, CPS’ inspector general says as many as 77,000 devices — worth more than $23 million — were marked as lost or stolen in just one year.

  Some of those devices didn’t disappear but were simply sitting on shelves or in desk drawers unaccounted for, CPS IG William Fletcher said in his 2023 annual report, blaming a flawed inventory system he said needed “serious overhaul.” And CPS rarely used a tracking system to find its computers despite spending $3 million on it.

The schools have always been bastions of corruption and waste, and the "watchdog media" who are supposed to look out for taxpayers, instead covers for the continuous scandal and waste:

• entire schools with principals, staff, engineers and more, operating at under TEN PERCENT of capacity;
• hundreds of sex assaults by teachers and other employees, many documented, most ignored;
• nearly eighteen years ago, we wrote about dumpsters full of books - still wrapped in plastic and stored on shipping pallets - tossed in the trash, never utilized and supposedly "out-of-date" within a year of purchase;

And now millions in "lost/stolen" computers that even had tracking software installed. 

You know why the tracking software wasn't used? Because the "school-to-prison-pipeline" is the cops fault and the CTU wasn't going to have its members providing the impetus for another minority child to have a police record. So school administrators (or their minions) would show up at the desk with a list of computer equipment that was "unaccounted for," get an RD number, the dicks would close the case, and no doubt CPS would file an insurance claim for the property - much of which probably ended up in storage closets, in dumpsters as "damaged," or in someone's basement.

And their pet Conehead isn't going to hold them accountable.

Newspeak!

1984 is a dystopian novel, published in 1949 as a warning of "the consequences of totalitarianism, mass surveillance and repressive regimentation of people and behaviour..." At least, most sane people see it as a warning - democrats and leftists see it as an instruction manual.

In the novel, the regime invented "newspeak," a language created to limit critical thinking and through that personal identity, self expression and free will. One of our hilarious commenters obviously studied the book extensively and re-wrote the explanation of the Oak Street shooting thusly:

• Lets get the facts straight- A young man was in the wrong place at the wrong time ( inside a closed retail store at 4 am) This community activist, arrived at the location in one of several vehicles borrowed without owners consent. After finding a suitable parking place within above mentioned retail store, this community activist assisted several others in relieving inventory and overstuffed shelves of merchandise. This activist felt it necessary to use force and gunfire to convince officers not to impede their work. Upon ventilation of said activist, he was abandoned by his coworkers and transported for medical treatments. Not to worry- while being treated, lawyers were notified to assist the medical staff. A personal injury case was filed in a timely and expedient manner. It is clear, despite protestations of the Police Superintendent, efforts to de escalate this incident were lacking. It was later learned an officer was slightly injured but is expected to return to work immediately after his 30 day review expires. 

We're going to have to try our hand at this for the next press conference held by Larritorious and his "merit" minions. We figure to get our practice in before the 2024 DNC and the associated BS.

Shooting Issues

First off, if this isn't proof positive that these new radios suck balls, we don't know what is.

For you retirees, the City went to a digital encrypted system over the last two years On one hand, it made all civilian scanners useless, meaning gang bangers and tow truck operators couldn't listen in on stuff.

But when you key up, there's a really long delay for the encryption software to kick in (what we were told). It's' literally like two seconds where the old Sabers and even the Motorola's it was under a second. That's not good in a high-stress situation when you might be yelling for help, calling out directions, or letting everyone know about shots fired.

This incident with radio cross-talk and such was horrendous and led to aggravating exchanges with dispatchers. We have no idea how it would even be fixed without going back to the old radios.

Second, that interview about "deescalating" the firefight?

We realize Larritorious built his career on being the Department Use of Force Sexpert and has testified at court many times about it, but in a gunfight, the only "deescalation" that should be taking place is rounds downrange into the bad guy.

Crime is....in Flux

Our stat guy has been busy. Crime is down....if you pick and choose which categories you give to reporters. Like say you leave out CSAs when comparing year over year and suddenly you've got your reduction. Torture those numbers until they scream!

Anyway, here's the overall picture sourced from the Department's own numbers (click for larger version):

Seems lower. But then we'll use the Department's own trick against them and just look at automobile crimes - Vehicular Hijacking, Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking and straight up Auto Thefts (again, click for larger version):

• 2021 - 11,951 total vehicle crimes
• 2022 - 22,698
• 2023 - 29,911

So the Department will include all sorts of crimes they ignored for years (intimidation, prostitution, other offenses) to make it appear overall crime is "down" over 7%, but when you look at a particular category (or set of categories) that CPD isn't allowed to pursue for (and Crimesha won't prosecute for) then you see where the numbers tell a slightly different story.

3-1-1 Construction

Proving once again, cops are an afterthought:

• Recently officers assigned/detailed to ARS were notified that minor construction will be performed at 2111 W Lexington, which includes the installation of a new rooftop a/c unit. The installation of the new a/c unit involves the use of a crane to lift the unit and supplies onto the roof. Due to safety concerns with the installation, employees assigned to the civilian side of 311 (except for a few supervisors) and the Department of Health next door have been assigned to work remotely. 
  
  
  Guess where the ARS officers are… working their assigned stations. To their credit, the bosses of ARS do care about the safety of officers and have made their concerns well known, but it is the higher-ups that apparently do not care and are requiring everyone to come in on their assigned times. While I do not believe anything will happen, it is the lack of safety measures taken by the police side that are deeply concerning.
  
  
  This is also a clear indication that 35th doesn’t care, or does not know what’s going on. Otherwise, the entire building would be shut down during the installation of the a/c unit, or at minimum, during the time when the crane is being used to lift equipment and supplies.
  

Imagine if the crane failed and a mutli-ton AC unit went though the roof of building....even partially.

Good to know our bosses have our best interests in mind.

Scheduled Exams?

 Is this even real? We got it from half-a-dozen people (click for larger version):

We'll confess we've never seen anything like it, not in nearly thirty years.

It suggests a level of planning and actual cognizant thought that isn't seen in the government, let alone the Police Department.

Officer Shot

North side:

• A Chicago police officer was wounded in a shooting on the Near North Side Monday morning, police said.

  The shooting occurred after 4 a.m. in the first block of West Walton Street, police said The officer was wounded in the leg and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

  Police said one suspect is in custody.

Someone did say the offender had numerous holes in him also, but that is unverified.

By the Thousands

Still coming to the suburbs, who ship them right to Chicago:

• On Dec. 13 the city of Chicago amended a “bus safety” ordinance, threatening to tow and impound buses that refuse to comply with the safety protocols by dropping passengers off late at night, or dropping migrant passengers off at a designated “landing zone.”

  In the weeks following, more than 5,000 migrants were dropped off in surrounding municipalities prompting several suburbs like Rosemont, Cicero and more recently Hinsdale, to pass similar ordinances cracking down on “rogue buses.”

  Since Dec. 14 the DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (OHSEM) tracked 72 buses dropping off 2,988 migrant passengers across the county leaving local authorities scrambling to organize transportation efforts to the designated landing zone in Chicago.

Someone pointed out that Champaign had declared itself a sanctuary. Why isn't Conehead shipping a few south? All the lib-tars in Cham-bana should be opening their doors to a few hundred illegals.

"Racial Disparity in Sentencing?"

Someone did a mega-study and guess what?

It doesn't exist!

• An analysis of twenty years of academic literature found that there is little or no evidence that minorities are mistreated by the criminal justice system when it comes to punishment, despite assertions to the contrary by policymakers, media, and academics.

  “In recent years it has become common belief within the scholarly community as well as the general public that the criminal justice system is biased due to race and class issues. Can it happen? Sure. Does it happen? In this era of cell phone cameras, squad car cameras, body cameras, cameras on every light pole, intersection, business and front porch, you think we'd be buried in video of cops acting badly....but it always seems to be the citizens.

And now, when someone takes an actual look at the "racial disparity" cited by every lib-tarded lawmaker looking for another restriction on law enforcement, we learn that Justice is more blind than not, and more even-handed then anyone suspected.

World Ended Eight Days Ago

Follow the science! (until the science is proved to be observable bullshit, then you just clean up your twitter feed and keep on grifting for money):

• On Saturday, Jack Posobiec posted a screenshot of a now-deleted 2018 tweet from Greta Thunberg, which linked to an article predicting humans would go extinct by 2023 due to climate change.

  "A top climate scientist is warning that climate change will wipe out all humanity unless we stop using fossil fuels over the next five years." Thunberg's post read from 2018.

We just looked out the window and....yep....world is still there.

And then we got this in an email about paper straws:

• Some paper and bamboo straws contain so-called "forever chemicals" that could make them a less-than-ideal alternative to plastic, researchers have found.

  Scientists in Belgium recently tested dozens of straws from supermarkets, retail stores and fast-food restaurants in the country, and found that the majority contained PFAS — a family of synthetic chemicals used in the manufacture of consumer products because they can resist stains, grease and water.

So instead of plastic straws, now we have paper straws, sealed in plastic, that dissolve in our drinks and taste like crap, leeching cancer-causing chemicals into our bodies and environments. And don't even get us started on EVs, windmills and solar power. The Twenty-first century is turning out awesome, one grift to another.

True Colors

And there's the sign we were looking for, verifying that Larritorious is nothing but a political tool for Conehead and doesn't have anyone's back:

• In a surprising twist of legal action, attorneys for Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling are seeking to overturn a recent Chicago Police Board decision that acquitted Officer James Hunt of alleged misconduct during unrest in 2020. Cook County court records revealed that a complaint for administrative review was submitted in late November, as reported by the Chicago Tribune, marking a rare instance of the city's police leadership challenging the board's ruling.

Not fighting to spare an Officer excessive discipline, but to reverse the almost complete acquittal of the Officer by the actual Police Board.

Lots of cops are wondering when all of Larry's ladies start coming out of the woodwork, will he be fighting to get himself fired for #metoo violations?

Probation for Sex Offender

Remember the first rule of embarrassing political stories - release all bad news on a Friday so no one sees it. This was released almost four Friday's ago....and we missed it:

• A former Chicago police officer has been sentenced to probation for sexually abusing a man who was in police custody and was shackled to a hospital bed.

  Carlyle Calhoun was a 10-year veteran of the police department when he was charged in March 2018 with aggravated criminal sex abuse and official misconduct.

  He was found guilty of those charges, as well as aggravated battery, custodial sexual misconduct and unauthorized video recording, at the end of a bench trial in September before Judge Mary Brosnahan.

  During his sentencing hearing Friday, the judge suggested Calhoun had contributed to a loss of public trust in police with his actions, which she called “one bad choice after another after another.”

Well, he comes from a family famous for "bad choices," mostly in the form of his uncle Corky. When this scandal broke in 2018, Corky was everywhere defending his nephew, as if it was wrong to suck a prisoner's toes, photograph a prisoner's genitals, then orally gratify said prisoner. No idea what the old school vice lords thought of Corky defending this behavior....at least the one's who hadn't been to prison for a few stretches.

Probation though? We can name two or three other coppers who got years in prison for similar transgressions. Nice to be connected.

Look Who Woke Up

Remember, the media is expected to keep you (the public) informed, and they've failed miserably:

• Most owners of assault-style weapons in Illinois appear not to have registered their guns in order to legally keep them. But there are minimal consequences for failing to register, and whether the law is even enforced likely depends heavily on where you live and how authorities discover an unregistered gun.

  The state banned assault-style weapons a year ago, but allowed people to keep the ones they already possessed provided they register them before Jan. 1 of this year.

  Only 1% of people with firearm owners identification cards in the state had registered by the deadline, according to the Illinois State Police. Just over 29,000 people reported nearly 69,000 weapons as of Dec. 31, according to the state police. There are 2.5 million FOID holders in Illinois.

The numbers don't lie. Compliance is sorely lacking and the ISP (not the troopers in the cars - we're talking the political appointees) have been reduced to making "pinky swear!' promises not to prosecute anyone registering late.

This after Fata$$ said sheriffs can't pick and choose what laws to enforce, while Crimesha changes actual crime definitions....and we don't recall the legislature granting the ISP politicos the power to unilaterally extend deadlines with promises of non-prosecution.

  Then there’s the governor’s sister Penny, another hard-core lunatic leftist under fire for trying to provide cover for the former Harvard University President, the now disgraced apparent serial plagiarist Claudine Gay.

  These wouldn’t be the first scandals in which the billionaire-trust-fund babies have found themselves embroiled.

The article runs through a bunch of lesser known, recent and past, scandals involving these assholes including:

• landmark mansion destruction in Beverly Hills
• cousin Tommy's as a named pedophile

Another multi-billion dollar company thinking of fleeing?

• United Airlines continues to take steps toward a potential move of its corporate headquarters from Chicago for Denver. While the move isn’t a done deal – and would be several years away – the Chicago-based carrier has already purchased land and has now filed planning documents with Denver officials.

  The Denver Post reports the airline has filed plans with the City of Denver indicating potential uses for 113-acres the airline recently purchased near Denver’s airport. United has acknowledged it’s expanding its flight simulator and pilot training base on the site; but the new filing also says, “United is actively investigating programmatic needs to support corporate campus activity accommodating 5,000 employees in future phases of the project.” 

  United employs nearly 5,000 corporate employees in Chicago.

"Keeping their options open" is the phrase bandied about.....like the Bears option on the Arlington Heights property. 

We're pretty sure they'll be gone before Conehead's next election run.

Who is Connected to Whom?

First, the amusing part of this story:

• A Chicago man turned the tables on an armed carjacker who forced him out of his car at gunpoint Tuesday morning: He walked into his nearby home, fetched his own firearm, and forced the carjacker out of his vehicle at gunpoint.That’s according to a Chicago police report documenting the arrest of 18-year-old Darrius Berry.

  Officers responding to a call of a “citizen holding an offender” in the 9400 block of South Laflin arrived to find the 39-year-old carjacking victim holding Berry at gunpoint in the street at 6:28 a.m., the report said.

  They detained Berry and asked the man what happened. He explained that he was sitting in his 2021 Mazda CX9 when Berry walked up to his driver’s window and pointed a gun at his head. “Please give me the keys,” Berry told him, according to the report. “I need your car. I’m sorry, sir… Go in the house.”

A rather polite carjacker. His parents must have raised him right!

• The victim complied, handed over his keys, and entered his house.

  Once he was inside, he grabbed his own gun. Then he went back outside. Berry was sitting behind the steering wheel of the Mazda with a firearm on the passenger seat, the report said.

Now the REALLY entertaining part:

• Judge Susana Ortiz detained Berry at the request of prosecutors.

This piqued our interest, because we remembered something from the excellent reporting done by the CWB blog the other day over the fire fighter shooting:

• Judge Susana Ortiz called the allegations against 34-year-old Omotayo Kassim an “anomaly” as she sent him home with instructions to surrender any weapons and his firearms licenses.
  

 An "anomaly" with a previous Extradition Warrant from Colorado by the way.

But more importantly, in the first case, a carjacker who committed what Cook County has been treating as a property crime - while brandishing a gun - with little serious prosecution/enforcement is held without bail....

versus

a CFD employee who allegedly got his job via a blackmail tape of a high ranking (THE high ranking?) fire official, who actually fired a gun into the face of an alleged traffic accident offender and may have paralyzed him for life (if he lives) and the judge cuts him loose with an ankle monitor?

Some enterprising reporter ought to be asking what is the judge's connection to all of this.

Scandal, Blackmail, Video Recordings

The CFD shooting scandal is set to blow wide open. There are political players pulling all sorts of strings behind the scenes, desperate to hide what they can. Most curious is that this guy was released on Electronic Monitoring while the victim is still in the hospital with a gunshot through his face. Doctors still don't know if he'll ever have any movement below his neck.

Someone posted a comment that, for legal reasons, we were advised ran into some gray areas, but this one didn't:

• Tip of the iceberg is correct if there were any real journalists left they would link Kassim to his sister to his brother in law to the fire commish herself. It’s a steamy tale of scandal, S3x lies and videotape. Imagine being in charge and the spouse of who you’re having a romp with his holding video evidence of you acting very unbecoming. Imagine the favors being asked and how bad you want it to go away.

Allegedly, there wasn't even a hit-and-run, but a verbal altercation. The victim's efforts to flee resulted in the aggravated battery with vehicle before aggravated battery with gun. 

There is an extra-marital affair, a Ring doorbell video (which may or may not be missing from CFD's version of IAD), a blackmailed hiring decision based on keeping said video secret. 

Might be an interesting weekend at Public Safety HQ....and a few divorce attorneys' offices.

Pritzker Sex Scandal

Not Fata$$.....that guy hasn't seen his junk in years:

• Victim Virginia Giuffre states she slept with billionaire Tom Pritzker (another John Doe) "once" Pritzker is a member of the prestigious Aspen Institute and Executive Chairman of Hyatt Hotels.

The Aspen Institute was the lead organization pushing the "Hunter's laptop was Russian disinformation" narrative to the media, how to suppress it and coaching them how to report it if necessary.

Yet another reason trust in the media is at all time lows.

Arbitrator Re-Run

So much for Conehead being a friend of unions. We guess it's only if you're in the correct union.

As promised, Arbitrator Benn affirmed his previous decision, saying cops have a Right to what every other unionized city worker has:

• City Council members violated their state constitutional oaths by denying Chicago police officers accused of the most serious wrongdoing the right to bypass the Police Board, risking a costly court challenge the city is destined to lose, an independent arbitrator warned Thursday.

  Independent arbitrator Edwin Benn had already affirmed and reaffirmed that state law guarantees that when Chicago police officers are recommended for firing, or for suspensions of over one year, they have the right to take their cases to an arbitrator who might be more sympathetic and would hold proceedings behind closed doors.

  Thursday’s second reaffirmation was no surprise and sends the matter back to the City Council for a second vote.

  But the tone of Benn’s second reaffirmation was unexpected.

Well, when you're dealing with children, sometimes you have to be firm.

And sometimes you have to swat them on the ass:

• Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara was so emboldened by Benn’s harsh tone, he’s heading straight to court to request for a summary judgment immediately enforcing the arbitrator’s ruling and a temporary restraining order to suspend all Police Board cases impacted by the ruling.

  “I’m not gonna wait for a very simple reason: I don’t trust the City Council and the mayor. ... They think political cover is more important. They want to do the easy thing instead of the right thing. That is the definition of a terrible leader,” Catanzara told the Sun-Times.

  “You’re noticing a trend here. [State’s Attorney] Kim Foxx gets to arbitrarily decide what the threshold for shoplifting is, even against statute. They think they get to arbitrarily decide what labor law is. They don’t. They’re supposed to uphold the current law. But they’re saying, ‘No. We know better.’”

That's the thing about democrats and "progressives" (but we repeat ourselves). They always know better than you little people and if you just listened to them and didn't demand a seat at the table, everything would be hunky-dory in their little totalitarian dictatorships.

• A student was killed and five people injured in a shooting Thursday morning at Perry High School in Iowa, officials said.

  The suspected shooter -- a student at the high school -- is also dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Mitch Mortvedt, assistant director of the Iowa Department of Public Safety's Division of Criminal Investigation.

Just odd timing.

We still think cops shouldn't be where they aren't wanted, including schools. And we don't want to hear any complaining when the inevitable happens.

UPDATE: The shooter is listed as "LGBTQ activist" kind of like that Nashville shooter whose entire "manifesto" is still being concealed by the feebs.

Fire Scandal

Just like to take a moment to thank the CFD for taking the spotlight off CPD for a few days:

• A Chicago firefighter has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting and gravely wounding another driver in Andersonville on New Year’s Eve. Omatayo Kassim, 34, will appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Wednesday, according to a media statement from the Chicago Police Department.

  Kassim has been a Chicago firefighter and EMT since 2019, but he is now on administrative suspension in light of the allegations, a fire department spokesperson said Tuesday night. The victim, 35, remains hospitalized with a bullet lodged in his neck near the spinal cord, according to a source familiar with the situation.

A road rage incident that resulted in the firefighter chasing down a hit-and-run offender, attempting numerous "pit" maneuvers, and then shooting the other driver after forcing him into parked vehicles.

All things that we can't do or were never allowed to do.

If this was a police officer, there would be disciplinary histories dragged in, CR summaries from the Invisible Institute jagoffs and a deep dive into family history. But somehow, this knucklehead's family history isn't even mentioned, and it's quite the history that the media isn't mentioning. 

Like how his sister spit on two paramedics the other day. Or how she then attacked two cops.

So she was forced out and immediately blamed  ::gasp!:: racism. Amusingly, A.I. programs tagged her resignation letter as "plagiarized" also.

But don't worry - Obummer has his eye on another college instructor working at Haaaaavard to take over and restore prestige (and donation$) to the Ivy League school:

Still Investigating?

Holy crap:

• A city agency tapped to review police misconduct complaints failed to complete an investigation into a high-ranking Chicago cop several years ago and has declined to finish it now, according to documents obtained by the Tribune.

  The Civilian Office of Police Accountability assigned an investigator in 2017 to determine whether Lt. Glenn Evans lied about allegedly breaking a mentally ill woman’s nose while she was in custody, but public records show the agency shelved the case almost immediately without any explanation — or any real inquiry.

Jeez....how long has this guy been a POW? The case they're citing goes back a decade. Heck, he was the lieutenant who got clocked with a stick at NATO....resulting in one of the most iconic CPD photos ever (note the fallen lieutenant in the background):

There's even the Invisible Institute "stamp of shame:"

• He has faced more complaints than 99.8% of other officers during his 37-year career, according to data from the Invisible Institute. He has been the subject of 132 misconduct allegations, with 12 of them sustained, the data shows.

Golly, if there were only accusations of a typewriter cover, he'd be the black Jon Boogeyman Burge.

We read the Tribune article with interest, especially the part regarding the "broken nose" complaint:

• Two officers, however, told investigators that Evans did place an open hand on the woman’s nose and applied pressure until she cooperated with her processing, according to the investigators’ findings. The woman quickly acquiesced after the compliance tactic and gave her fingerprints before being released, records show.

Surprisingly, the Tribune called this action by its proper name - "compliance tactic." We count ourselves among the many thousands of officers trained in this technique, but we seldom used it - it brings your hand too close to the teeth. We could see it being especially painful if you had suffered a broken nose in the past, which the doctor who examined this non-compliant offender noted at the time - she had a broken nose, but it may have been from a previous injury.

It's good to see that COPA is still as incompetent as any of its predecessor organizations.

More Pandering

The national media has picked up on Conehead's incompetence:

• Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson insisted to CNN that funding for reparations in his new budget will help get to the root of the city’s record violent crime epidemic.

  While speaking to network anchor Poppy Harlow on “CNN This Morning” Wednesday, Johnson acknowledged the high crime rate in Chicago and declared that the “full force of government” is required to solve it, including the city throwing $500,000 at reparations programs. 

  Harlow prompted his answer by citing Chicago Police Department statistics revealing that although “the murder rate is down from 2022,” “all other forms of violent crime, Mr. Mayor, are up from a year ago, up 17% overall.” “Are Chicagoans going to be safer in 2024?” the anchor asked. 

  Johnson, who has been mayor of the Democrat-run city for about seven months, claimed the solution to the problem lies with a major government response, and the “full out community safety plan,” he claimed, “not only gets at the root causes of violence in the city of Chicago,” but makes “critical investments.”

Spending money Chicago doesn't have to pretend to address the same "root problems" every single democrat has run on for decades now.

Illegals Turned Away?

In New Jersey of all places:

• While speaking to New York ABC affiliate WABC on Monday, Edison, New Jersey Mayor Sam Joshi (D) stated that he turned a bus full of migrants sent to the city back because local police “did not know if any of those 40 individuals were carrying weapons, they couldn’t be identified.” And this is “a major security risk. It’s a health risk. And we’re just not going to tolerate that.” Joshi, who plans to send migrants back to the border, also stated that he doesn’t want to pawn problems off on other mayors.

  WABC New Jersey Reporter Toni Yates stated, “The town of Edison, however, has its own answer: A charter bus to send migrants back to the southern border. The bus that arrived the other night was simply ordered to leave.”

They're turning them away because they "did not know if any of those 40 individuals were carrying weapons"? You mean the feds aren't checking them at the border? We already know they aren't screening them for disease or fentanyl packages, but New Jersey democrats are hanging their hats on imaginary guns? And they're hiring buses to send them back?

Usually it's the lawyers making all the money, but we're looking into buying a couple of buses.

Finally?

Conehead campaigned on getting cops out of schools because respect for the law, enforcing the law, and letting kids have positive interactions with police was somehow racist and contributed to the "skool-to-prison" pipeline. Page through our archives - with the concentration on manpower, we advocated for getting cops out on the streets for years. Why stay where you aren't wanted?

Then Conehead folded like a cheap communist Mao jacket and said school councils could determine if cops stayed.

No worries though - the commies in charge might make it all a reality:

• In a move that could reshape Chicago Public Schools to align with Mayor Brandon Johnson’s vision, CPS officials are telling principals to prepare for the possible removal of police officers stationed in school buildings by next fall.

  CPS officials recently told principals that school board members don’t support having Chicago police officers in schools, WBEZ has confirmed with one principal present at the meeting. The news was first reported last week by Nadig Newspapers, a local paper covering Chicago’s Northwest Side.

  For the last few years, local school councils have had the power to vote whether to keep police officers, known as school resource officers, in their schools. When he was running for mayor, Johnson declared that “armed officers have no place in schools in communities already struggling with over-incarceration, criminalization, profiling and mistrust.” But upon taking office, Johnson said he was OK with LSCs choosing whether to keep officers.

  The school board will vote this summer whether to renew the $10.3 million police contract.

They'll vote it down of course. Never mind that all those school security officers are mostly off duty sheriff and suburban cops. They'll get CPD out of the schools and the Department will get back about fifty-five officers just in time for the convention riots.

On an unrelated note, we heard somewhere around fifty-five officers of all ranks are retiring or being mandatory retired in January. Who has the numbers?

Springfield We Have a Problem

As of 01 January 2024, "assault weapons" are banned in Illinois and you can only keep them if registered with the State Police. Same thing for certain accessories and certain caliber ammunition. The rumor that the ISP website went down due to a massive attempt by Chicago gangbangers to register all of their "assault weapons" appears to have been false.

According to the Illinois State Police website and interested parties, compliance topped out at something less than five percent. Might be as low as half-of-one-percent, but no one really knows. The ISP has said you can still register the weapons despite the now past deadline, but what moron is going to hand the ISP proof of your disobedience of State Law? You would automatically be banned from possessing all firearms.

So the lefties and democrat politicians (but we repeat ourselves) are in a bind. They passed a "law" in the dead of night, gutting an insurance bill and substituting anti-gun language in it, and pushed it through in under 72 hours without public hearing or comment, in violation of procedural safeguards. 

Now over 95% or more of Illinois gun owners have refused to comply and around 96 (or so) county sheriffs (out of 102 statewide) have stated they will not be enforcing anything in regard to this registry.

Gun grabbers now face a couple choices:

• A - ignore the fact that 95% of gun owners have given them a giant middle finger, or
• B - selective enforcement in places like Cook County, where Dart never met a gun law he wouldn't personally perform fellatio on, or
  
• C - order all sheriffs to start door-to-door confiscation AND prosecute sheriffs who refuse.

Failure to enforce a State Law means the government loses legitimacy, and who runs Illinois at this very moment? This is also a national election year with the DNC holding its convention here in Chicago. Not the look that the dems are looking for when Fata$$ is in the running to be drafted for the top slot when Mr 10%-for-the-Big-Guy steps aside. And prosecuting County Sheriffs? These are elected officials. How very Hitler-esque.

We're certainly in for an interesting couple of months ahead.

And not that we encourage this, but if even one percent among the estimated half-a-million owners of banned rifles violently resisted....dear lord.

Congrats 003

Conehead's Chicago couldn't even last a single hour before racking up the first homicide:

• A shooting left a man dead and two women injured inside a home on the South Side early Monday morning, Chicago police said.

  At least two dozen bullet holes pierced the front of a single-family home in Park Manor, where a New Year's gathering was brought to an end by gunfire. Investigators said the shots came from outside the home and struck the victims after piercing the window.

  Police responded to the 7000 block of South Wabash Avenue at about 12:45 a.m. and found three victims inside a residence. A 53-year-old man, shot multiple times, was pronounced dead on the scene.

011 got on the board late and we think 015 also.

New Year, Same Crime

Street "takeovers" still happening it seems (story and video over at CWB blog):

• Chicago police arrested two people during a street “takeover” in the Loop early on New Year’s Eve. But a driver who nearly struck an officer while fleeing the scene got away.

  A video posted to the Citizen app showed two cars spinning donuts in the intersection of Wacker and Franklin around 3:30 a.m. A couple of passing motorists stopped on the Franklin Street bridge and joined another 60 or so spectators, forming a circle around the performance.

  The footage shows the crowd breaking up quickly as police units arrived.

  When you watch the video, keep an eye on the two officers who get out of the first squad car on the scene. They walked over to the intersection and prepared to deploy stop-sticks to keep one of the cars from leaving. The driver sped away and, at the 34-second mark, nearly struck one of the cops.

So are we actually deploying the sticks or just brandishing them around. Because the way to end up with this shit completely out of control is to wave the stop sticks around....and never use them. Once they figure that out, it's going to be like the pursuits. In fact, responding officers terminated (were ordered to terminate?)  pursuit of a car that just attempted to run over, injure and kill cops.

They KNOW we don't pursue, so what do they do? Drive off, taunting us to chase.

They KNOW we don't foot chase, arrest or prosecute for shoplifting, so what crime goes through the roof? Shoplifting.

They KNOW no one is arresting them for blocking the expressways by the airports, so....you get the idea?

Until you deploy the only authorized method of stopping the "takeovers," it's going to rapidly devolve into something else.

More Cops Mugged

No one is safe:

• Two off-duty Chicago police officers have been robbed at gunpoint since Saturday evening, the latest in a string of CPD officers who’ve been mugged during the city’s surging robbery problem.

  In the first incident, a 41-year-old officer was in the 2800 block of South Wentworth when the robber walked up to her with a handgun around 8:37 p.m. Saturday. He demanded her property and fled with her iPhone and wallet, which contained her police ID.

  A CPD spokesperson confirmed that a woman was robbed during the incident but, consistent with policy, did not identify her as a police officer.

  The robber fled on foot. Officers at the scene described him as Black, about 5’7″ tall, and wearing a black face mask. He also wore a black jogging suit with white stripes on the side of the arms and legs.

  Then, around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, another off-duty CPD officer was robbed at gunpoint in the 10100 block of South Wood. The 45-year-old officer told investigators that two armed men got out of a car, took his valuables, and fled.

Maybe the only people out on the street lately are cops? And that's making them more likely to be victimized? 

We've got nothing except stay alert, maybe carry a fake wallet with a few bucks in it and keep a separate one for your department documentation, star and important stuff?

Getting Worse

So Conehead outlawed bus drop offs. 

Buses from Texas start dropping off illegals in the suburbs and the burbs ship them off to Chicago.

A couple private planes arrive at O'Hare, and the illegals are immediately bussed to Chicago shelters.

Suburban mayors begin banning bus drop offs in their towns, so buses stop at Metra stations where the illegals board trains for Chicago.

Now, Texas uses planes to drop off hundreds more in Rockford, where....:

• A plane carrying migrants from Texas landed about 1 a.m. Sunday at the Rockford International Airport, and the migrants were “offloaded and immediately boarded buses” headed toward Chicago, according to officials.

  By late Sunday afternoon, some passengers from the plane had arrived in the Chicago’s migrant landing zone in the West Loop, a city spokesperson said.

Conehead immediately blamed Texas....for democrat border policies.

And democrats here have refused to allow voters to have a voice on "sanctuary" policies that were enacted years ago without input.
