Pointless Nonsense

Everything else must be solved, so the City Council works on this?

• The City Council voted to pass a resolution Wednesday that establishes Chicago as a "sanctuary city" and challenges Gov. Bruce Rauner's authority to temporarily suspend acceptance of Syrian refugees in Illinois following the deadly terror attacks in Paris.

North Carolina had to actually pass a law telling their liberal bastions that "sanctuary" policies that ran counter to State and Federal law were...get this...illegal. And San Francisco just voted out their sanctuary sheriff who decided he didn't have to notify the feds about an ICE "hold" and released a multiple-times-deported illegal who murdered a woman walking with her father.

The City Council has time for this crap, but nothing about maybe looking into where billions in pension payments went, nor hiring a new Inspector General to keep their baser instincts in line? Or why Rahm's cameras have managed to issue millions in bad tickets:

• Mayor Rahm Emanuel's speed camera program improperly issued more than $2.4 million in fines to Chicago drivers, ticketing them when cameras were supposed to be off and when the required warning signs were confusing, obscured or missing, a Tribune investigation has found.
  
  At the same time, City Hall has systematically ticketed drivers near schools without the legally required evidence of a schoolchild in sight. A Tribune random-sample analysis puts the number of those questionable tickets at about 110,000.

But hey, let's pass "symbolic" resolutions lest some poor Syrian who hasn't undergone an adequate background check be denied the chance to come to America without waiting in line like everyone else. It's isn't like they're sneaking over the border or anything:

• Two federal agents operating under the umbrella of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are claiming that eight Syrian illegal aliens attempted to enter Texas from Mexico in the Laredo Sector. The federal agents spoke with Breitbart Texas on the condition of anonymity, however, a local president of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) confirmed that Laredo Border Patrol agents have been officially contacting the organization with concerns over reports from other federal agents about Syrians illegally entering the country in the Laredo Sector. The reports have caused a stir among the sector’s Border Patrol agents.

Once again, proving the priority of democrats isn't Americans, locally or federally.

• A west suburban man was sentenced to 16 years in prison Wednesday for selling at least 80 guns to people he knew were Chicago gang members, officials said.
  
  Walter Freeman, 36, of Lisle, was sentenced after he was found guilty of selling revolvers and semi-automatic weapons to gang members, according to a statement from U.S. Department of Justice.
  
  According to the plea agreement, Freeman traded crack cocaine to a co-defendant, Timothy Vana, 54, of Forest Park, for the guns. He also admitted to selling about 7 grams of crack cocaine per week from 2008-2013, prosecutors said.

A plea agreement for 16 years - that's amazing for Illinois, but it was Federal Court. You send these guys away for two decades and you'll see straw buying drop off to levels never before experienced.

Prickwrinkle's Budget Passes

More taxes!

• Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle's $4.5 billion budget won approval Wednesday, and people who shop, stay in hotels and file lawsuits will be paying more next year.
  
  Overall county spending is expected to increase by about $500 million under a budget commissioners approved 12-5. The spending plan depends on a penny-on-the-dollar sales tax increase, a new 1 percent tax on hotels and $20 in additional fees for each lawsuit filed.
  
  Preckwinkle's budget also includes a 20-cents-per-milliliter tax on the liquids that fuel electronic cigarettes and a bullet tax that ranges from 1 cent to 5 cents per round, depending on the type of ammunition.

Can't wait to leave this over-taxed under-served hell hole.

• A Stroger Hospital executive who was driving home drunk from an office Christmas party in 2013 was sentenced to 100 days in prison Tuesday for striking and killing an aspiring chef who was biking home from work.
  
  During an emotional hearing, Robert Vais, the hospital's director of cost reimbursement, tearfully apologized for the death of Hector Avalos, 28, who had served five years in the Marines.

Time off for good behavior, anything he's been credited for and he's home after missing all the shoveling he might have had to do this winter. Must be nice to be connected.

• CHICAGO — FBI agents seized a trove of investigative documents, computers and files from legislative inspector general Faisal Khan’s office on Friday, its last day overseeing Chicago elected officials.
  
  “We received a subpoena of the FBI to take custody of our files and our computers with the understanding [that] we are working with them on a number of investigations,” Khan told POLITICO on Sunday. “In order to protect the integrity of these cases, we had to take the extraordinary step to make sure they don’t end up in the wrong hands.”
  
  Khan said some of the officials he investigated were “devoid of ethical morals and values.”

Well, no shit Sherlock....they're aldercreatures.

Sobering Statistic

From a reader - we cannot independently verify the stats, but we certainly think it deserves some looking into:

• Cook County Sheriff officer commits suicide after shooting girlfriend and her father. This is the 5th officer suicide in Tom Dart's office just in the past year. Suicide rate in the Cook County Sheriffs office is 52 times higher the national average of other law enforcement agencies according to recent report.. When is Sheriff Dart going to demand mental healthcare for his officers, not just the inmates.
  
  Cook County Sheriff office has the highest officer suicide rate of any police agency in the entire country. Officer suicides linked to on the job harassment claims.
  
  High Ranking Source in the Cook County Sheriff office says Sheriff Tom Dart has good reason he refuses to release the statistics on officer suicides on his office The numbers are quite shocking compared to the national average... The Cook County Deputy Division has a suicide of 1 per 95 officers since 2007, while the national average is 18.1 per 100,000 officers. In simplistic terms, the Cook County Deputy Division has a suicide rate 52 times higher than the national average of police agencies.

Any suicide is too many. Even the fine work done by the Chaplains and the Employee Assistance Program people, CPD suffers a number of suicides every year. With the holiday season approaching, we worry about hearing someone harmed themselves. Does County have this type of program in place? Five suicides in a single calendar year would seem indicative of a larger problem and it needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

• Dozens of school districts in Ohio now allow teachers who have conceal-carry permits to pack heat on the job.
  
  In several cases, boards of education have been pressed into adopting the policy by parents concerned about school shootings in the wake of the 2012 shooting at a school in Newtown, Conn. While an exact number of Buckeye State districts now allowing teachers to have guns in the classroom is not known, there are at least 40, according to Joe Eaton, director of FASTERsaveslives.org, a program affiliated with the Buckeye Firearms Foundation which sponsors training for teachers from the school districts.
  
  “The sad thing is that time is these situations in the most important factor,” Eaton said, “and waiting for outside help is just not a viable solution anymore.”

Wait, you mean that tag line we've had on the right hand side about, "When seconds count, the Police are only minutes away" is an accurate reflection of reality? Who would have thought that? Besides someone with a brain we mean.

• “Safety of our kids should not be a controversial issue. This is not about guns,” Jim Irvine, also with FASTERsaveslives.org and the Buckeye Firearms Foundation, said. “For nearly 60 years, not one student has died from a fire. That is due to a redundant, overlapping approach to safety.
  
  “We should be copying that same method for incidents of violence in our schools," Irvine added. "You need something that is effective. Show us another method and we would invest in it.”

And here's something amazing we discovered - this can apply across all sorts of situations.

• A shooter in a theater;

• A shooter in a concert venue;
• A shooter in a stadium

You know, this could actually catch on.

How Did We Miss This?

No wonder these guys don't want an Inspector General looking too close at stuff:

• A report from the City Council Office of the Legislative Inspector General concludes that 29 aldermen took in a total of $282,000 in illegal campaign donations in 2013. The donations, ranging anywhere from $500 to in excess of $50,000, were found to have violated the city’s ethics ordinance, according to Legislative Inspector General Faisal Khan.
  
  The ordinance limits aldermen from receiving campaign contributions in excess of $1,500 from "persons who have done business with the City or its sister agencies within the previous four years, persons who are seeking to do business with the city or its sister agencies, and lobbyists."
  
  The ordinance defines “doing business,” as receiving more than $10,000 in a calendar year from the city. The L.I.G.’s office would not say who the aldermen were, but assistant Legislative Inspector General Michael Graham told "Chicago Tonight" that the office found “four aldermen that had $50,000 or more in questionable contributions.”

We're surprised it's "only" $282,000. He must have missed a few a zeros at the end of the total there - but aldercreatures have been stealing for years and Khan has only been inspecting for a little while.

• Linda Sabor says Obamacare was a godsend. As the health care law enters its third year, her faith is starting to waver.
  
  Last month, her insurance company gave the 59-year-old Palatine resident some bad news. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois canceled the health plan that she and her husband have had the past two years. The company offered a plan for next year that has a similar network and benefits that would cost $1,142.24 a month, $325 more than their current monthly premium.
  
  "We can't afford $1,142 a month," Sabor said. "Our income isn't going up $300 a month."
  
  Illinois residents are dealing with hefty inflation when they log on to HealthCare.gov for the Affordable Care Act's third open enrollment season, which began Nov. 1. Some health care consumers are seeing rate increases of 40 percent or more. Rate increases for the lowest-cost plans in the majority of counties are in the 15 to 20 percent range, according to the Illinois Department of Insurance.

More than half of the state exchanges have gone bankrupt and folded already, which everyone who could count knew was going to happen. But hey, when your policies are funded by fantasy dollars and unicorn farts, anything is possible - including doubling the national debt in less than four years.

• For much of his 46-year career in law enforcement, Terrance W. Gainer viewed marijuana as a substance to be confiscated and its sellers as criminals to be investigated and arrested.
  
  He is now security chief for one of the nation’s leading medical-marijuana growers, tasked with, among other things, protecting a 20-acre site in Western Maryland that could become home to one of the state’s first cannabis-growing operations.
  
  The new job, the former officer says, has required something of an attitude adjustment.

And of course, a taste for a lot of money.

Rahm Turns Down Windfall

One of those stories that pops up in the comment section from time to time that catches our interest, especially where city dollars are concerned:

• The next time you hear Mayor Rahm Emanuel talk about the city’s financial problems, remember the deal he just turned down.
  
  In response to a suggestion here Thursday that could have netted City Colleges of Chicago a cool $474 million by auctioning off the license of its little-watched public television station, the mayor flatly rejected the idea — for all the wrong reasons.
  
  The potential windfall is being dangled by the Federal Communications Commission, which seeks to entice broadcasters to turn over spectrum space to mobile wireless providers through a voluntary “reverse auction” early next year. According to the FCC, opening bid price for City Colleges of Chicago’s WYCC-Channel 20 would be $474,185,700.
  
  Even if the actual sale price were a fraction of that, the result would still be a massive infusion of cash for the city’s financially-strapped public college system. There’s no telling whether such an offer will ever come along again.

And as Feder points out, Rahm is turning down nearly half-a-billion for all the wrong reasons:

• Emanuel seems to think that City Colleges students who work in the Englewood studios and control rooms of WYCC wouldn’t get that hands-on experience if the station didn’t own a broadcast transmitter.
  
  That’s simply not true.
  
  The same programming produced by the station’s full-time staff of 37 (with an annual budget of $5.2 million) could be shifted to online streaming or moved to a public-access cable channel controlled by the city. What the mayor calls the “tremendous educational opportunity” would remain intact without using a broadcast signal that reaches a pitifully tiny audience anyway (2,200 viewers in an average quarter-hour, according to Nielsen).

That half-a-billion could fund almost two additional Malcolm Ten colleges....or make a significant dent in some outstanding pension payments coming due. And Rahm could use some of his business contacts and have the "communications majors" intern for free at any one of the media outlets around town.

Mobs and Casinos?

• Prompted by questions from the Better Government Association, the Illinois Gaming Board has launched an investigation into Rivers Casino over its relationship with a Chicago company whose president has had ties to reputed mob figures.
  
  Rivers, the state’s newest and most lucrative casino, has been using United Service Cos. for "deep cleaning" to its kitchens since the Des Plaines gaming site opened in 2011 after besting applicants from Waukegan and Rosemont for a coveted gaming license, the BGA found.
  
  Rivers, owned by a venture whose chairman is billionaire real estate magnate Neil Bluhm, also hired United Service’s security division to provide guards just before the casino opened, according to interviews.
  
  The president of United Service is Richard "Rick" Simon, a former Chicago police officer who over the years has had business and personal connections to reputed mob figures, according to public records, news accounts and interviews. Simon said in an interview he’s an upstanding businessman unfairly portrayed in past media reports.

This would be the same Rick Simon who has a boat? A boat frequented by a certain high-ranking police official? A police official.....well, never mind. Nothing to see here.

Europe is toast:

• Norway's police, who have been authorised to carry firearms for the past year due to a heightened threat of Islamist attacks, will be unarmed again now that the threat level has been lowered, police said Friday.
  
  National police chief Odd Reidar Humlegard told reporters the measure would take effect on November 17.
  
  The country's 6,000 uniformed police officers will "have to keep their weapons locked in their patrol cars like they did previously," he said.

Did they change this after Friday night?

More Tax Hikes

Toni is about to get all her tax hikes, including the ammo "violence tax." We haven't heard of an exception for law enforcement, so we'll be traveling outside the county again if necessary:

• The Cook County Board Finance Committee had just put the finishing touches Friday on its 2016 budget, approving a 1 percent hotel tax to go with its earlier penny on the dollar increase in the sales tax, when President Toni Preckwinkle offered a sobering assessment.
  
  Asked directly by me how long the additional revenue will hold the county, Preckwinkle pointedly avoided giving any reassurances about future revenue requests during the remainder of her term.
  
  Preckwinkle wouldn’t even say she won’t be back asking for more money in the 2017 budget.

Of course she will be - responsible spending is for other people, not democrats, and certainly not in northeastern Illinois.

Tucked away at the end of the Mark Brown column, long after everyone else stops reading, is this little tidbit:

• In the interest of full disclosure, my wife recently took a job with Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart in a policy role. But I plan to keep writing about county government when appropriate.

• BALTIMORE, Md. – Baltimore has recorded its 300th homicide of the year.
  
  Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said in a statement Saturday evening that it was a "sad homicide milestone." He said that "it's important to pause and vow to continue our collective fight to find a better path forward."
  
  The 300th victim was a 27-year-old man who was stabbed multiple times Saturday and later died. It's the first time since 1999 that the city has recorded 300 homicides. In 2014, the city saw 211 killings for the year. Baltimore crossed the 200 death mark in August.

Remember..."room to destroy."

Meanwhile, Chicago hit 400 with nary a mention a week or two ago and seems well on it's way to 450.

The Last Fugitive

Long memories and the longer reach of national databases:

• A man accused of being the getaway driver for another man who shot at rival gang members at a city park in 2011 but wounded two young girls has been arrested and extradited from Florida to face charges, according to prosecutors.
  
  Dionisio Gonzalez, 35, has been sought in connection with the shooting June 8, 2011, at Avondale Park, 3516 W. School St., since soon after the attack, when a warrant was issued for his arrest. Another man, Antonio Bucio, pleaded guilty in May to being the shooter and was sentenced to 30 years in prison, according to prosecutors and court records.

For those of you who don't remember, this was the shooting that led to Supernintendo McCompStat vowing to wipe out the maniac latin disciples. We are happy to be the only outlet in Chicago to report that with this arrest, the gang has ceased to exist! And we are the only outlet in Chicago to offer out heartfelt congratulations to the Supernintendo and his command staff on this amazing accomplishment. Well done!

  What would you say if I told you that the mother of a murdered boy left town for Las Vegas on the evening of her son's funeral?
  
  That's the news I am trying to develop this morning for Good Day Chicago. TWO very good sources tell me Karla Lee (Tyshawn Lee's mother) has left town. One of the sources says she left on Tuesday night --THE VERY NIGHT OF HER SON'S FUNERAL--and SHE FLEW TO LAS VEGAS. Her family is said to be incensed. Keep in mind, this is the same Karla Lee who took a hit on social media over the weekend when she was criticized for using GOFUNDME money to buy a brand new car. She adamantly denied using the money from the fund...but said it was money she saved up beforehand. She said she needed a car for her protection because walking and taking the bus just wasn't safe for her. (( In all fairness, Karla Lee's cell phone is a Las Vegas phone number))
  
  I am also trying to develop news that the father of Tyshawn Lee is going to contribute to the reward money to track down the killer of his son. He may hold a news conference later today...but that is still to be determined.

We seem to have missed the part where cable service was a Right or something:

• Fearing for the safety of its employees, Comcast canceled six appointments on Chicago's South Side Wednesday due to "heightened potential [for] violence" in the area, a company spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
  
  A day after holding 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee's funeral, St. Sabina Church needed some help with its Internet connection — and was turned away because of neighborhood violence.
  
  Outspoken anti-violence activist the Rev. Michael Pfleger shared his outrage about Comcast on Facebook Wednesday, writing:
  
  "A Supervisor at Comcast just informed us that they couldn't send their technician to repair our internet service today because our area has too much violence.....ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????? Oh Hell No!!!!!!!"

Oh hell yes Dumbass. You can't force a company to send employees into harms way, and we can only imagine the faux outrage Pfleger would be spouting if Comcast charged an additional "safety fee" of $100 to all it's Englewood customers calling for service, the proceeds of which would pay for an individually armed off-duty copper to escort the technician. That would be hilarious...and well deserved. Sorry about the many paying for the sins of the few, but that's the situation on the ground.

Schools Warns Parents, Students

When did we post the "war warning"? Nine days ago? Now someone is warning the schools and neighborhood about something they probably already figured out:

• A Chicago school warned parents and students Tuesday of a potential increase in gang violence on the city’s South Side following the deaths of two young people, including 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee.
  
  Augustus Toltan Academy, located roughly 4 miles from where Tyshawn was gunned down in a targeted shooting earlier this month, sent an alert to parents warning of “an increase of gang activity in response to the recently reported gang deaths of the two young people.”
  
  The school’s principal said in the alert the activity was expected to take place on or near 79th Street between Damen and Cottage and near 76th Street between Seeley and Ashland avenues.
  
  “I just wanted to make sure parents are aware, families are aware, staff is aware of what’s happening in this city,” said Principal Pamela Edwards-Sherley.

This isn't the only school warning parents either. It's only prudent.

Anyone Surprised?

Ticket sales are plunging:

• Illinois Lottery ticket sales dropped to the lowest point yet this year in October, the same month lottery officials announced they were delaying payouts over $600 because of the state budget impasse, according to data obtained Thursday by The Associated Press.
  
  Sales for most tickets, including instant games and Powerball, declined about $21 million — with October sales at roughly $215 million compared to September’s approximately $236 million. The high was about $260 million in March, according to data obtained in a freedom of information request.
  
  The figures confirm what ticket vendors at gas stations, convenience marts and grocery stores have said anecdotally for weeks about people’s frustration with Illinois’ budget problems.

And since so much of these numbers are based on "estimated revenue," when the General Assembly finally get off their asses and pass a budget, the deficit will be that much larger and harder to fill.

Fees for Free

How similar is this to what's happening in Chicago? This is in New York:

• Wall Street managers were paid an astounding $708 million in fiscal year 2015 to handle the city’s pension system — but did such a terrible job that taxpayers were forced to cough up $9.9 billion to make up for their shortfalls.
  
  Most of those costs, moreover, were kept secret.
  
  Management fees jumped by $178 million from $530 million the year before. But Comptroller Scott Stringer says the “vast ­majority” of the increase stems from the discovery of previously undisclosed “incentive fees.”

These up front fees, non-performance based fees, would appear to be a major drag on pensions. And if history is any indicator, the "managers" are surely connected to New York politicos, and we can't imagine the same thing isn't happening here, right down to connected firms getting their fees up front.

And Another Sergeant List

Another fifty-plus names came out today. We don't have it here, but we saw it. No word on how many "merit" may have been included in this one.

Supposedly, the FOP was promised that these sergeants would have the exact same seniority date as the golden class of thirteen "merit" picks.

We'll see. At the very least, they'll probably lose out on the Sergeant sell-back option and extra Personal/BFD/Furlough days. That's a monetary damage, provable in court. Will Dean stick up for the soon-to-be-former-FOP members?

We're going to bet "Nope."

And how much money is the City wasting, putting through a class of 13, then teaching another fifty the exact same material four weeks later? Wouldn't it have made sense to put them all through together? They've made classes of two-hundred before...fifty should be a cinch.

Dumb and Dumberer

Pending jury outcomes of course. This one looks headed to trial soon:

• An angry Cook County judge berated a Chicago Police officer who was in court Tuesday after being charged with firing five shots at an off-duty suburban cop who tried to pull him over for driving drunk.
  
  Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. told cop John J. Gorman’s attorney: “The problem I have with this is that we have a climate in this city where citizens are shooting at each other. We have to expect and demand more from those who wear a badge.”
  
  The off-duty cop wasn’t hit, and Gorman, 53, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm. He could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

We covered this last year when it turned out the suburban cop was trying to pull over the off-duty..while off-duty himself. Not a good tactical decision, but not anything that would justify blazing away at anyone, cop or not.

And Kass teases this one:

• There is a video that could tear Chicago apart.
  
  It will go viral if released, and the world will see something ugly and frightening on the Southwest Side.
  
  It comes from a police dashboard camera. City Hall worries that political hell may be on the way. Activists are primed. The politics of race and police use of force are at hand.
  
  And a court hearing is scheduled for next week on whether it should be released to the public.

Sorry, but if this video is as bad as suspected and hinted at, then it shouldn't be anywhere near the public realm until after the trial.

• the Civil Suit was preemptively settled for $5 million
• there's still a jury to be seated - this will preclude anything resembling a fair trial

The political aspect shouldn't even come into play, and neither should the public's "right-to-know" argument. The public will know, after the process is completed.

More Speed Cameras

And the neighborhood isn't happy:

• Drawing about a dozen protesters to fight a controversial speed camera activated in the neighborhood Monday, Ald. George Cardenas (12th) said city bosses are using the technology to pickpocket citizens.
  
  “They have no understanding of communities or their needs,” Cardenas said just after 10 a.m., standing in the cold at 3200 S. Archer Ave. “This is completely wrong.”
  
  Since its installation in 2014, the speed camera has drawn criticism from local residents and organizations calling the camera a money-grabbing scheme disguised as a safety solution.

Really? Just a money-making scheme? And Cardenas actually voted "yes" on Rahm's budget.

Um...You Want What Now?

Kass has an article up behind the Tribune pay wall. It is of course, about the dead 9-year-old, executed by his father's rivals. Part of it is what you would expect:

• The detectives had just finished their meeting at the edge of the alley near 80th and Damen on Chicago's South Side.
  
  They were middle-aged men in sweaters and jackets, their faces heavy with the weight of the heater case. One answered me before I could ask a thing.
  
  "It's down there," he said. "You'll see the balloons."
  
  There are always balloons at the makeshift shrines of children shot dead in Chicago, and teddy bears and cards.

Part of it is odd:

• Espen Rasmussen, a photographer for the Norwegian magazine VG Helg, worked his camera in the alley.
  
  "I don't know if the people of my country could comprehend this," Rasmussen said. "A child? Targeted for assassination? They wouldn't understand it."
  
  What wouldn't they understand?
  
  "To kill a child to punish the father? They wouldn't know how to talk about it, how to comprehend it. Oslo is a big city. People are killed. But children, like this?

That's kind of rich coming from a guy from a continent that slaughtered some tens of millions in the last world war, including men, women and children, many for collaborating. And a continent currently home to how many refugees who think nothing of slaughtering their own children for perceived or imagined slights to family honor?

And part of the article is an incredible admission on a part of the community:

• At the shrine, grandmothers Cammise Tubbs and Evelgina Avant were praying. They held hands.
  
  "May the angels welcome you to heaven," said Tubbs, eyes closed. "And we light these candles as a token of loving respect for you baby, and by the blood of Jesus we pray the father's sins did not fall on this child. Protect us Lord from these killers and bring our community together."
  
  They lit candles, placed them next to the pile of stuffed animals, and then lit their cigarettes.
  
  Avant said she wished Two-Gun Pete — a notoriously brutal black Chicago cop who was long used as a bogeyman to keep South Side kids in line — was still alive.
  
  "Why? Because you got to scare these boys, that's why," Avant said. "And Two-Gun Pete was no joke!"

Ex-squeeze me? Grandma wants Two-Gun Pete back? A brutal beast of a cop with around a dozen official deaths to his credit and a few that might not have made the papers, along with countless hospitalizations, cripplings and many dozens more who decided not to seek medical attention, but instead took their ass beatings as part of the cost of doing business.

You want this back? You can't control your spawn, or the spawn of your spawn, or the spawn.....you get the idea....you want a cop to be the parent you never were? A parent so brutal that even 60 or 70 years later, his exploits make decent people shudder? After how many lawsuits, marches, laws, punitive judgements, millions of dollars, etc (some justified, some not). This is your solution to stopping the killing? A more brutal police department?

A Measley Grand?

An aldercreature in the thick of it again:

• Ald. Edward Burke (14th) accepted money from a charter-school group shortly after signing a letter of support for a new Noble high school on the Southwest Side, but — after he disclosed the donation to elections officials — the campaign contribution never made it to the bank.
  
  Ald. Edward Burke (14th) signed a letter dated Aug. 20 expressing support for the new Noble Network of Charter Schools campus set to go at 47th Street and California Avenue. The letter was addressed to Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Board of Education President Frank Clark and Chicago Public Schools Chief Executive Officer Forrest Claypool.
  
  The board signed off on that Noble high school at its October meeting.
  
  On Sept. 8, Burke reported on state-mandated campaign disclosure forms that his campaign fund Friends of Edward M. Burke had received a $1,000 contribution from INCS Action PAC, the political action committee for the Illinois Network of Charter Schools.

So....what now? It certainly looks like a "quid pro quo" situation - what is referred to as a "legal bribe." The only thing missing appears to be the deposit. So Burke did it for free?

Who's Minding the Store?

It doesn't exactly instill confidence when your own official cites the words "hot mess" in regard to money:

• In another sign that Chicago Public Schools isn’t keeping good enough track of transit fare cards that are supposed to be distributed to homeless students, a Chicago man was recently arrested for allegedly hawking L and bus passes that were swiped from the school system.
  
  Mohammed Abdullah, 24, was arrested on Oct. 15 and charged with theft of more than $500 and less than $10,000, according to court records. He sold paper CTA Ventra cards intended for homeless students to customers who turned out to be undercover police officers, the records show.
  
  When police searched Abdullah’s place of employment – a convenience store at 79th and Saginaw – they found 300 cards, authorities said. The cards contain cash value, and when they’re tapped at L turnstiles and bus fareboxes, the fare amounts are deducted.
  
  How Abdullah ended up with the cards isn’t clear. But they were stolen from CPS and he was selling them for less than their actual value, officials said. A CPS spokeswoman released a written statement indicating a CPS employee had been fired in connection with the incident, and that CPS handed out about 1.9 million two-ride cards to homeless kids last year.
  
  Amber Damerow, a former CPS official who oversaw the school system’s program for homeless kids until resigning last year, called the management of the CTA cards at CPS “a hot mess.”

But hey, let's let the schools raise property taxes to their limit for the.....how many straight years has it been now? We can trust them with the money!

Rahm About to Get Spanked Again

Better make plans for after the Christmas holidays:

• The Chicago Teachers Union has released the results of a test strike vote, which was held last week.
  
  The union said 97 percent of members would vote to authorize a strike, if necessary.
  
  The potential strike could happen after the holiday break.
  
  School officials have warned of massive layoffs if state funding does not come through.

97%. Wow.

Seriously?

Just when you think the 9-year-old story couldn't get any weirder, we get this in our e-mail...about fifteen times:

So, is it or isn't it? It's a pretty good likeness of picture the media has been running with. And after momma posted herself with a gun and bought a new car with the GoFundMe money, we wouldn't be surprised in the least.

And even if it isn't young Mister Lee, it's some kid, about 4 years old, on his way to a lifetime of lord knows what.

Do you remember Eric Holder's non-existent conversation on race? The conversation that pretty much went, "White people are racist, and if you try to refute it, we'll call you racist, and by the way, you're all cowards for not talking about race, you racists." It looks like there might be a crack in the media wall by a black columnist of all people:

• On Thursday, near a gritty alley in Auburn-Gresham, Chicago’s top cop declared it was “probably the most abhorrent, cowardly, unfathomable crime that I have witnessed in 35 years of policing.”
  
  Police Supt. Garry McCarthy stood at the podium, stooped, aggrieved. A battle between two major gangs led to the murder of Tyshawn Lee, who was “lured” to that alley, McCarthy said, and executed in retribution.
  
  “When you’ve done what you did to a 9-year-old, there’s a place for you, and there’s no humanity in that place,” a visibly emotional Rahm Emanuel said.
  
  “This has grieved hearts and touched hearts across America, as it should. But it’s gotta do more than touch us,” said the Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina Church.
  
  They were exhorting, pleading, begging.
  
  Pfleger begging that the “coward” executioner be exposed. McCarthy exhorting gang-banging “mutual combatants” to end the warfare. Emanuel pleading that people in the community have “a moral responsibility” to come forward.
  
  As I watched and listened to it all in TV reports and online narratives, I noticed: The loudest voices calling for an end to the slaughter came from whites.
  
  White voices asking that we save African-American children.
  
  Pfleger, McCarthy and Emanuel are passionate about ending the raging street crime that has turned Chicago neighborhoods into war zones. As they should be.
  
  Where are the black voices?

Where indeed. Nice to see someone finally catching up, so bravo to her. Let's see how long it takes the Jesse's, Al' Louis's, and Eric's to turn on her.

Every Day Isn't Like This Kid

Sometimes, you can go entire weeks without saving a life:

• A Chicago Police probationary officer on his first day on the job Sunday helped save a man’s life.
  
  Probationary Officer Nicholas Picicci and Field Training Officer Robert Cavaiani responded to the 3100 block of North Marmora at 8:20 a.m., according to a news release from Chicago Police.
  
  The officers found a 62-year-old man inside his home having a medical emergency, police said. He was unresponsive and not breathing.
  
  Picicci and Cavaiani began CPR immediately and continued until the fire department arrived. The man was taken to Community First Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

All kidding aside, a great start to the career. Congratulations to the Officers.

Battle of the sub-.500 Teams

Hell, they're both sub-.300 if you want to get technical about it.

So the Chargers are 4.5 point favorites with an over/under of 49.5.

Both teams are fighting for their 3rd win, so there's a lot on the line here.

What Did You Expect?

We could make this up if we tried:

• The mother of murdered nine-year-old Tyshawn Lee is being bashed on the Internet for using money intended for his funeral expenses to buy a car, but she is defending the purchase.
  
  A total of 727 people had donated to the GoFundMe site “Help Me Lay My Baby to Rest” as of 4 p.m. Saturday, contributing $17,492. The fund’s creator writes specifically on the GoFundMe page that the donations were to be used to lay Tyshawn to rest. But Karla Lee said in several profanity-laced Instagram posts that were posted Saturday, before she took the page private, that yes, she used it for a car and that her son mostly likely would approve.
  
  “They already took my son,” she said in an enraged voice. “I walk to work. I get on the bus. I’m not trying to be a target for nobody.”

Why would you be a target? Daddy has been saying the homicide didn't involve him in the least. He's completely innocent of any involvement in the death of his spawn.

Of course, when momma posts pictures like this on her Facebook account, what chance did this kid actually have? He was just a lottery ticket waiting to be cashed in:

"Accountability" Database

You know all those FOIA Request letters McCompStat has been e-mailing everyone lately? The ones that say even in the face of Contractual agreements and legal retention schedules, the Department is providing reporters and others with years worth of CR investigations? Here's why:

• The Law School’s Civil Rights and Police Accountability Clinic next week will launch an interactive online database that, for the first time, will give the public access to tens of thousands of Chicago police misconduct complaints, a release possible because of a precedent-setting clinic victory that opened up police misconduct records throughout Illinois.
  
  “This is historic: nothing like this exists or has existed before,” said Craig Futterman, Director of the  Police Accountability Clinic. “The whole nation is saying we need this kind of data, and the Law School is helping make it available.”
  
  The Chicago Police Database, named the Citizens Police Data Project, which goes live on November 10, was created as part of a joint project with the Invisible Institute, a journalistic production company. It includes 54,581 complaints filed against 8,337 officers, including every allegation of police misconduct within the Chicago Police Department filed between March 2011 and March 2015. In addition, the database contains records on officers who were repeatedly accused of abuse between 2000 and 2008. Eventually, Futterman hopes the database will include the complete list of abuse allegations against Chicago officers going back to 1967. The full dataset, which is more than 7,000 pages, is the subject of ongoing litigation between the City of Chicago and the police union, which is seeking to block the release.

Closed files, exonerated cases, blanket complaints where no accuser was located and in many cases, no accused was identified. In other words, shitloads of Not Sustained cases, compiled in one place to provide media and plaintiff lawyers with a club to beat the Department.

Ammo Tax Coming

Word is that on Monday, Toni will attempt to tax ammunition, perhaps excessively so, in an attempt to drive gun dealers completely out of Cook County, denying dozens, perhaps hundreds of people actual jobs in a legitimate, legal enterprise.

Meanwhile, car dealers continue to operate with impunity, despite killing thousands more in Illinois than guns ever have.

Great headline in the Slum Times yesterday:

• West Side man gets two years for 2-year-old boy's fatal meth poisoning

Leaving aside the fact that two-years for the death of a toddler is ridiculous, the article then goes on to show how clueless the writers at the Times are:

• A West Side man was sentenced to two years in prison Thursday for endangering the life of a 2-year-old boy who died from methadone poisoning while under his care last year.
  
  Reginal Z. Brown, 37, was sentenced two years in prison by Judge Stanley Sacks after pleading guilty to one count of endangering the life of a child, according to Cook County court records.

Evidently, no one at the Sun Times ever saw an episode of Breaking Bad. "Meth" is not methadone. Not the same class, not the same effects, not even the same targeted group of users. But hey, the media is known for layers and layers of fact checking.

CWB Tweaks Rahm

If you were curious about that Rahm case report, CrimeInWrigleyvillandBoystown blog has posted it up for everyone to read. And since it's not a Department site, you can't get disciplined.

That's some funny shit right there.

Oh, and it seems that the Beat meetings in their neck of the woods have been re-formatted - no more question about specific crimes and only half as many meetings next year. So the blog that has been the biggest thorn in Tunney's and Rahm's side over the blatant under-reporting of robberies has managed to make the 019 District run from the CAPS field - so much for "sharing information" with the community.

Preib Tearing it up Again

The Crooked City blog once again, covers the story the media won't (or can't) cover - how reporters have become the story rather than reporting the story and how members of the media have helped release a number of psychopathic killers onto the streets of Chicago.

We can't even quote the article in order to do it justice, so you'll have to click on the link here and go read it at the source. It is truly a tangled web and spans so many different aspects of the broken system here in Cook County.

Weekly Totals Mount

The numbers are rolling in three at a time:

• Three men were critically wounded in a West Humboldt park neighborhood shooting Friday night on the West Side.
  
  The men — ages 19, 27 and 51 — were outside in the 1400 block of North Kildare about 8 p.m. when two gunmen walked up, started shooting and then ran away, according to Chicago Police.
  
  
• A 17-year-old boy and two other teens were shot and wounded in front of a high school Friday afternoon in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side, officials said.
  
  The boy suffered two gunshot wounds -- one to the head and one to the torso -- and was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, officials said. Authorities earlier listed his age as 16.

Add in the other school shooting, the 9-year-old, the assorted retaliation shootings, plus the normal everyday mayhem, we're kind of curious to see this weeks totals. And we're curious to see this first week of November compared to the last few Novembers. Hopefully, HeyJackass.com has the final numbers after tonight, because you can't forget Saturday in the totals.

Search Warrant on Dad?

The "person of interest" has been released and no one doubts for a second he is hiding far from home tonight. A string of search warrants have been served across the south side:

• McCarthy singled out Lee’s father, Pierre Stokes, 25, who has been particularly unhelpful in the investigation. He said Stokes has refused to talk to detectives on at least two occasions.
  
  Police executed a pair of search warrants in recent days, including a raid of an apartment in the 8000 block of South Marshfield about midnight Wednesday that was authorized by a warrant listing Stokes as the target.
  
  Stokes arrived at the press conference moments after McCarthy left, and talked for several minutes with police brass who were leaving the press conference. Talking to reporters, Stokes denied involvement in gangs and said he does not have information that would help investigators.

Stokes has been bragging for months he was talented at avoiding the police, and he and Garry seem to be like two ships passing in the night. Stokes is playing a game, appearing at a press conference after the Supe is gone, but hobnobs with the lower ranking brass, reasonably safe from retaliation in the midst of so many cops and cameras. Does anyone reading think he's not planning to unleash his shooters on the streets the moment a break in the police presence is felt?

Long gone are the days we could send 250 or 300 coppers into a neighborhood for a few weeks via MSF, TRU, SOS and shut things down. Now, it's like a band-aid trying to stanch a sucking chest wound.

That Rahm Case Report Again

The media finally catching up with what the blog reported weeks ago (here and here):

• Dozens of Chicago police officers are being disciplined for reading a police report involving Mayor Rahm Emanuel's son, police sources told NBC 5.
  
  The police report dates back to last December when Zack Emanuel was mugged near his Northside home and his cell phone was stolen.
  
  Up to 200 officers who read the report on internal CPD computers have been suspended over fears that information in the report has been leaked to the media.
  
  The Chicago Police Sergeants Association said it is currently appealing the discipline action. Meanwhile, The Fraternal Order of Police said it has not been involved with any suspensions yet.

If they're handing out Summary Punishment, then there won't be suspensions...yet. But they can stack up the SPARs for all sorts of minor stuff and really start handing out days. The war against the police continues in the political realm as well. Has the media ever located the "college counselor" who was accepting calls at 11:30 PM?

All Hail Toni!

Shifting the unpopular taxes so she can be the hero....like Rahm and Shortshanks used to do:

• Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle will nix her 3 percent amusement tax proposal and instead push for a 1 percent hotel tax, Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin said Thursday.
  
  A 1 percent hike would spike Chicago’s hotel tax to 17.4 percent. And although not yet formally proposed, some hotel representatives are concerned a hike would affect the city’s ability to land conventions.
  
  Suffredin said Finance Committee Chairman John Daley, D-Chicago, invited him to a meeting with Preckwinkle Thursday morning in which she discussed the 1 percent hotel tax, Suffredin said. He called it a “change in direction.”

Of course, when it finally becomes public knowledge that the upcoming Convention Season is going to be one of the worst in recent memory, Toni will have to come up with some sort of hike in fines, fees or taxes to cover the shortfall from this fantasy revenue stream.

Wider Retaliation Expected

The south side slaying of a 9-year-old looks to open a world of hurt:

• Chicago police detectives were questioning a person of interest Wednesday night in the slaying of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee in an alley in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.
  
  [...], a spokesman for Superintendent Garry McCarthy, confirmed a lawyer accompanied the person to Area South police headquarters to be interviewed by detectives about the Monday afternoon killing that has galvanized Chicago.
  
  Law enforcement sources have told the Tribune that police are looking into whether Tyshawn was killed in retaliation for his father's alleged role in a gang rivalry that resulted in at least two recent slayings on the South Side and the wounding of a reputed gang member's mother.

Are you feeling "galvanized"? We must have missed that one.

In any event, Stokes is deeply involved in any number of shady enterprises as evidenced by his extensive record. And the shooting the media is dancing around is the one where the gang leaders were "called in" for a meeting with police brass before one such "leader" was erased while riding home with his mother.Fun times that was.

Now, they're worried about this spilling over:

• Chicago Police officials are concerned the killing of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee could set off a spree of violence targeting gang members’ innocent relatives — who have been considered off limits in the past, a law enforcement source said Wednesday.
  
  The development came as Chicago police said a person of interest in the killing had turned himself in to police for questioning with his attorney this afternoon. Police declined to comment further.
  
  After Tyshawn’s shooting, Police Supt. Garry McCarthy hopes Chicago’s gang conflicts don’t “go to a different level,” the source said.
  
  Officers monitoring social media have flagged discussions of gang members speaking of possible retaliation against other gang members’ families.

Yeah, but the one side already opened that door - they winged momma while killing her son. No wonder the other side figured if mom of one was a legit target, why not the son of the other? Makes perfect sense to a psychopath. All the fashionable terror groups have done it, even the Outfit.

ID on Deceased Child

A name on the chopped-up child found in Garfield Park lagoon:

• The remains of a toddler found in the Garfield Park Lagoon over Labor Day weekend have come back as matching the DNA of a 2-year-old boy reported missing in September in Rockford, Chicago police said Wednesday.
  
  Kyrian Knox was first reported missing in mid-September, but Rockford police said it was not clear when the boy was last seen. A statement issued by Rockford at the time said the boy was believed to be in the care of a family friend before he was reported missing.
  
  Chicago police have received DNA test analysis matching the remains found in Garfield Park to those of Kyrian, said Chicago police spokesman [...].

Whether or not this leads to an arrest, lord only knows. If we were betting people (and we've never gambled a dime in our lives....more like hundreds of thousands of dimes), we're going to bet this goes into Garry's books as a Death Investigation.

I know it was in the instructions, but send their ass home. The department used them like a cheap hoe and fucked them again a month later. 

The Department didn't "use" anyone. Bank of America paid overtime wages to a few hundred coppers and who knows what to the TMA people for security for the marathon. In order to work it, you had to bid by seniority to make the time-and-one-half. You were also provided with a list of equipment required to bring. If you were unwilling or unable to have the required equipment, why volunteer? Let someone prepared to do the job have the opportunity.

Sending them home wasn't really an option as there was no time to call people on standby - reporting time was zero-dark-thirty, and few if any people are answering their phone at that hour, dressed and with available equipment to work an event where the runners themselves are lined up before 0500. You need the full force there ready to go, especially in the event of a Boston-type situation.

Everyone on the job is supposed to be at least semi-literate. Failing that, the Lieutenants were reading the Marathon Order at Roll Call for at least a week prior to sign-up and a few days prior to deployment. And this isn't the first year they required the Safety Vest either. This is supposed to be a quasi-military organization...there are rules and such. You can still be a dogass earning time-and-one-half based solely on your years for the small price of showing up in the proper uniform with the required equipment.

You don't follow a simple rule, you get SPARred. At least they didn't deprive them of the check - everyone still got paid. You'd rather see McCompStat at roll call with a box full of Traffic Safety Vests renting them for $150 a pop? You think that everyone would show up with a vest then?

Not a Joke

Every so often, people hear about the "turkey leg" murder or some similar example of the complete depravity human beings manage to inflict on one another. We've had non-police tell us they don't believe it, that no one could be that petty. These people are usually liberal in temperament, so we make allowances for their ignorance.

But this is a rather recent story - just a few days ago:

• HOUSTON - A man has been arrested and charged for allegedly stabbing a friend to death for taking the last piece of chicken at dinner, according to a report.
  
  Reinaldo Cardoso Rivera, 38, has been charged with murder after police say he killed 34-year-old Darwin Perez Gonzalez on October 30.
  
  According to police, five men were eating and drinking in an apartment when Gonzalez took the last piece of chicken. Rivera then became angry, started an argument, and eventually both men went outside to have a fist fight.
  
  During the fight, police say Rivera pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed Gonzalez. He then fled the scene, but later returned and admitted to police what he had allegedly done.

That better have been the best damn chicken he ever had, because we heard the Texas Department of Corrections can't prepare a chicken to save their lives.

War Warnings

A nine-year-old gunned down. Speculation runs rampant. Then this:

• It was all coming together for 20-year-old North Shore resident Kaylyn Pryor.
  
  The effervescent Evanston Township High School grad, who was attending Robert Morris University, had won the “Mario, Make Me a Model” competition sponsored annually by Chicago’s Mario Tricoci Hair Salons & Day Spas in September.
  
  And she had just signed her first modeling contract. Her breakthrough came from Factor Women Model Management agency, and she was expected to return the freshly inked agreement to the Chicago agency on Thursday.
  
  [...]Police said a passing vehicle sprayed bullets at the two about 6:20 p.m., not far from where 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee was shot to death just two hours earlier in the 8000 block of South Damen.

A young suburbanite with an actual promising future, gunned down visiting her grandparents in Englewood.

And now the speculation has some grounds it would seem:

• Chicago police are looking into whether a 9-year-old boy was killed in retaliation for his father’s alleged role in a gang rivalry that resulted in at least two recent slayings on the South Side and the wounding of a reputed gang member’s mother, law enforcement sources have told the Tribune.
  
  But while the father of Tyshawn Lee said he believes his son was targeted, he denied anyone had reason to kill the boy in order to retaliate against him.
  
  In an interview Tuesday night with the Tribune, Pierre Stokes denied anyone would have a motive to kill him, but if they did, there was no reason to take it out on his son because he’s out in public in the neighborhood all the time. If anyone wanted to harm him, they could find the opportunity, he said.
  
  “I’m not hard to find,” Stokes said.

First up Einstein, you're assuming that these are reasonable people that are hunting you - people who need a motive. Additionally, the warnings being given out to the police are pretty specific as to what's about to blow up on the south side.

Watch your backs and fronts boys and girls - the potential for violence during this warm stretch has many people worried.

Fox Lake Death to be Ruled Suicide

Unbelievable:

• At a Wednesday press conference investigators are expected to announce that they believe veteran Fox Lake police officer Lieutenant Joseph Gliniewicz committed suicide, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the findings
  
  The update is expected to come at 10 a.m., Lake County officials said Tuesday. The briefing will reveal what led investigators to their conclusion.
  
  Investigators are expected to reveal a significant development in the investigation into a veteran Fox Lake police officer’s September shooting, which prompted a massive manhunt in northern Illinois and left a community stunned. (Published Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015)
  
  “One report is claiming to have information about the findings and conclusions of the investigation,” the statement read. "We will have no comment on that or other reports until the news conference at 10:00AM tomorrow. There will be conclusive results of the investigation announced tomorrow. We respectfully urge all members of the media to refrain from reporting as fact; rumors, innuendo, hearsay, and speculation.”

We can't even begin to imagine.

Please Don't Strike

Rahm is about to preside over the second teachers strike in three years, a feat not accomplished in many decades. He's been reduced to begging Karen Lewis not to make him fold like a Titanic deck chair:

• Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Tuesday urged the Chicago Teachers Union to drop talk of a strike and join forces with the Chicago Public Schools in the drive to get the $480 million in pension help from Springfield needed to avert massive teacher layoffs.
  
  Nine months ago, mayoral challenger Jesus “Chuy” Garcia warned that Chicago faced its second teachers strike in three years if a “hard-headed” and “confrontational” Rahm Emanuel was re-elected.
  
  Garcia warned then that Emanuel’s bullying missteps instigated the seven-day teachers’ strike in 2012 that was Chicago’s first in 25 years and predicted that the same thing would happen again unless Emanuel changed his stripes.

For a guy without a plan, Chewbacca sure seems to know the lay of the land.

"Diversity"

More political games:

• In his pitch Monday to recruit a diverse pool of applicants for an upcoming police entrance exam — the first since 2013 — Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy’s approach was equal parts practical and idealogical.
  
  “At the end of the day, it’s a pretty good-paying job with great benefits,” McCarthy said at a news conference held at police headquarters.
  
  “Officers will start with a salary of $47,000, and after 18 months that will go to $72,000, and there’s not a lot of places where you can get that in this environment right now, in this economy,” he said, adding that health care for the whole family was included.

Um, this is the greatest economy since WWII. Just ask Sparklefarts and all the people lined up nose-to-ass coming out of the White House, along with the media. We won't tolerate that sort of talk around here.

• And, for the idealists: “It’s probably the most noble thing a person can do with their life,” McCarthy said.
  
  The job offers “the best and the worst of humanity in the same day, frankly,” McCarthy said, noting that the pendulum swings from “I can’t believe that just happened” — when encountering the best of humanity — to “God almighty, I can’t believe what I just saw.”

And that's just what you hear walking out of the Thursday morning CompStat meeting. The lies, data manipulation and number-spinning is enough to make you cry - or write award winning articles for Chicago Magazine.

• Pretty soon, police departments nationwide will have to lower their hiring standards, increase salaries and benefits, and put a lot more money into marketing for new hires, because the men and women who would usually be candidates for law enforcement careers will choose another path.
  
  Becoming a police officer used to be a family tradition. It's not just an Irish thing, as is often depicted in movies and on television. I cannot count how many father/son and even mother/daughter, police families you can find out there in various departments, of all different colors and backgrounds. It's an honorable profession serving the community, and children who are raised in cop households often grow up with the same sense of civic responsibility as their parents. I even know of one family in the Washington, DC, area who has family (cousins, brothers, etc.) in almost every police department in and around the city. Meet one "Officer Wigglesworth" and I guarantee you, he's related to all of the others.
  
  But the times, they are a'changin. And not for the better. Because the overall attitude toward law enforcement has shifted and changed. The profession that was so revered after 9/11 has instead become itself the target of hate. A lot of people have tried to make the community's problems with law enforcement a race issue. But the cop killers are indiscriminate as to whom they murder. Black, white, Hispanic, Asian - it's all about the color of the uniform, so to speak, not the color of the officer's skin.

And that isn't from a usual gloom-and-doom type website - that's the ultra-liberal Huffington Post writing there, and if they're seeing this, well then the past 10 years we've been preaching it put us somewhere above Nostradamus.

9-year-old Targeted?

What matters again?

• A 9-year-old boy was shot to death just doors from his grandmother's house in the Gresham neighborhood Monday, and police said they could not rule out that he was targeted.

That would be a truly sad commentary on the state of the city right now.

Interesting Study

By the left-wing Washington Post no less (but follow this link to the much safer Daily Caller):

• A new Washington Post analysis shows that in almost all fatal police shootings, police are totally justified. The report analyzed 800 fatal police shootings.
  
  “But only a small number of the shootings — roughly 5 percent — occurred under the kind of circumstances that raise doubt and draw public outcry, according to an analysis by The Washington Post. The vast majority of individuals shot and killed by police officers were… armed with guns and killed after attacking police officers or civilians or making other direct threats.”
  
  Only 5 percent raise doubt and concern, which does not mean the officers did anything wrong. Of those that raise doubt, police are almost never found guilty of any wrongdoing. Critics will say it’s because the system gives them special treatment, but it is still a telling data point.
  
  In 74 percent of fatal police shootings, police pulled the trigger only after the other person fired, brandished their gun, or attacked someone, the Post analysis points out.

Could police be better? Sure. Better training, more practice always makes a better officer. 95% isn't perfection, but what human endeavor is ever perfect? And that 5% isn't exclusively black people (or folks) getting shot.

95% certainly gives lie to the vast majority of #blm people, Sharpton, Louis, Jesse, Tarantino and all the race-baiters claiming the police are being oppressive and out-of-control. The facts don't support any of it.

No CompStat in Baltimore

Otherwise, you wouldn't be seeing an 80% increase in shootings:

• On October 28, the city of Baltimore posted official numbers that revealed there have been 775 shootings in the city–fatal and non-fatal shootings combined. This marks an 80 percent increase over the number of shootings at this point in 2014.
  
  According to the city of Baltimore stats, the number of fatal shootings alone is at 275–a 54 percent increase over the number of fatal shootings at this same point last year. The number of non-fatal shootings sits at 532, which is an 80 percent increase over the number of non-fatal shootings that had occurred at this time last year. (Note: 275 fatal shootings plus 532 non-fatal shootings add up to a total of 807 shootings. But the official Baltimore stats have the total at 775, so Breitbart News is quoting 775 as the total.)
  
  In is also interesting to note that carjackings are up 74 percent, convenience store robberies are up 149 percent, and gas station robberies are up 170 percent.

How does any politician in Baltimore still have a job? And how's that whole "BLM" thing working out for you folks (and people)? Are they answering the calls as quick as Baltimore PD used to? They initiating crime strategies and such to tamp down that over-exuberant youthful population who never wanted the police around in the first place? You think former Attorney General Eric Holder and Sparklefarts are willing to have that discussion on race any time soon?

Yeah, didn't think so.

Charges "Unlikely"

No reason there should be:

• The stepson of a 55-year-old suspected robber shot dead Saturday night at a Southwest Side store by a customer with a concealed carry license expressed anger, frustration and doubt about the incident Sunday.
  
  Killed was Reginald Gildersleeve, 55, of the 5000 block of South California Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Gildersleeve was pronounced dead at 7:10 p.m. on the scene in the 2700 block of West 51^st Street, according to the medical examiner's office.
  
  Police had said earlier he'd been shot in the chest.
  
  Late Sunday, police in a statement said they were wrapping up its investigation and indicated that "charges do not appear likely."

The Tribune story goes out of its way to quote the dead felon's family, publish their outlandish claims about "doubts" and such, but do point out that the deceased was out on bail for other charges. Someone also managed to get the corpse's extensive rap sheet to the media, including a previous robbery.

The comments are another story, with the anti-gun trolls out in force and street-corner lawyers opining on everything. The fact is a felon got caught dirty, got shot legally, and won't be costing taxpayers another dime.

Win, win, win.

Cops Save Two

Pulling them out of a burning car:

• Police officers pulled two unconscious men from a burning car in Gresham early Sunday, police said.
  
  A car in the 7700 block of South Loomis Boulevard hit several parked cars and then caught on fire. Officers arrived at the scene at about 2:20 a.m. and were told that one person had gotten out of the car, but two others were still inside. They broke out the windows and pulled out two unconscious men.
  
  Two people were in serious-to-critical condition after the crash, according to Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Curtis Hudson. A 25-year-old man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with head pain and a 27-year-old man was taken to Stroger Hospital with a head injury.

Excellent job Officers.

Robbery Foiled by .....

...a good guy with a gun??? How can this be?

• A man was fatally shot in the Gage Park neighborhood on the West Side after he attempted to rob a business Saturday night, police said.
  
  The man, whose age was not known, was shot inside of a business in the 2700 block of West 51st Street at 7 p.m. after he tried to rob it, police said.
  
  The man suffered "gunshot wounds" and was pronounced at the scene, police said.
  
  The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the death.
  
  No further details were available.

Um, 2700 West doesn't mean "west side." Just thought we'd point that out to the pinheads at ABC.

In the meantime, word on the street is a Concealed Carrier prevented a crime. Look for McGunsAreBad and Rahm to hide that info as long as possible.

• Thanks to the effort of Ald Napolitiano, Chris Vittorio, the rest if the 41st Ward staff and Jimmy Kehoe(Retired CPD Sgt) Oxford Ave from Devon to Avondale will receive the name of Honorary Patrolman Joseph Cali Way. Joe, a terrific Officer and survivor of the US Army Vietnam came home joined the CPD and was murdered by some lowlife Police killer in the projects on Lake Street in the 013th District. Jimmy was Joe's partner on May 17, 1975 when he was struck down by a sniper from the projects. It turns out this Police killer John Brown, had just robbed a store at 2001 W Lake St with a 22 caliber rifle. Upon returning to the Henry Horner Homes, Brown bragged to his friends that he would kill a Police Officer with his rifle. A massive manhunt began, at which time project people attacked the assembled Officers with bricks and bottles. This murderer was subsequently arrested and received only 20-25 years for this heroes murder. Brown served half the sentence and was paroled in 1986. Please attend this dedication on Nov 14, 1100 hrs on the NW corner of Devon and Oxford. Former CPD Phil Cline will be present. In addition please pass this information along. We must honor this hero.
