Another massive payout coming:

• An unauthorized police chase leading to a traffic accident that left a 15-year-old boy unable to walk or speak will likely result in a $45 million settlement with the city — one of the largest in Chicago history.

  The proposed payment would go to Nathen Jones, who suffered a “massive traumatic brain injury” in the April 2021 crash, according to the family's attorney.

The reasons don't matter. The justification doesn't matter. 

Only the end result is what lawyers and juries are looking at.

Casino Problems?

That casino everyone was excited about? That was going to solve all of the pension issues?

Problems?

• Bally’s is reportedly considering a buyout offer that could soon turn the publicly traded company to privately owned, as the corporation faces funding concerns over its Chicago casino.

  The Sun-Times reported Tuesday that Bally’s has formed a special committee to evaluate a bid from Standard General, a New York hedge fund, to buy out shareholders.

  Last week, the reports say, Bally’s CFO Marcus Glover told the Nevada Gaming Control Board that the company needs to bridge an $800 million funding gap to cover $1.1 billion in costs still remaining to build the permanent Bally’s Chicago Casino at the Tribune Freedom Center site.

  While Glover said Bally’s “has a source” to solve the funding gap, according to the Sun-Times, it has still not yet secured most of that financing with construction supposedly starting on the permanent casino site in just months.

We don't pretend to be financial geniuses. But when people who ARE financial geniuses start talking about "funding gap[s]" and "not yet secured...financing" then we start to wonder what the Hell is going on.

Chicago missed it's casino window two or three mayors when the investment "consortium" ended up being celebrities and connected politicians trying to get their beaks wet.

Bears Playing Both Sides

They better not get a single taxpayer dime from this bull$hit:

• The Chicago Bears stirred excitement and alarm Monday after carefully unveiling a piece of its plans for a new stadium and promising to spend more than $2 billion to help build a new publicly owned domed stadium on Chicago’s lakefront.

  The excitement came from fans and supporters who cheered the thought of the Bears staying in Chicago. But the alarm came from vast corners around the city and state, as the Bears’ plans lacked significant details and raised a host of questions — not only about how much public funding would be required and how that revenue would be raised, but also about how the Bears might win over Chicago and Illinois lawmakers as well as overcome opposition from open space and historical landmark advocates.

But over in Arlington Heights:

• While the Bears have said their focus is on Chicago now, Arlington Heights officials said the team told them Monday that its interest in the former Arlington Park site “has not changed.” Village officials continue to try to get the schools and the team to reach an agreement on property taxes.

  “The Village’s focus remains on finding a path forward to a successful redevelopment of the former Arlington Park site,” Mayor Tom Hayes said.

So obviously, they're playing both sides....an odd position for a team that can't do either on the field.

But if they want control over the hotels, bars, associated gambling revenues, etc, then Arlington Heights is the obvious long term move.

Take My Car, Please

Ultra liberal Canada has taken bending over backwards to criminals to another level:

• “They’re breaking into your home to steal your car. They don’t want anything else.”

  Unbelievable.

  Canadian police recommend leaving car fobs outside to deter armed thieves from breaking into homes. The thieves target cars, not other belongings, making it easier for them to steal without confrontation. This shocking advice raises concerns about home security and personal safety.

And, since Canada has a very ingrained anti-gun / anti-self-defense tradition, thieves can pretty much break into houses with impunity and take what they like.

Where did they come up with this completely stupid idea?

• Some residents in California's Bay Area communities have begun leaving their parked vehicles with the trunks left open in the hope of discouraging auto break-ins.

  Photos posted on social media and shared by the San Francisco-based news station KGO-TV showed two SUVs parked side by side along an Oakland street. The trunk doors of both vehicles were open, and the vehicle owners could not be seen in the immediate vicinity.

  The person who posted the photo on social media watched the vehicle owners leave their trunk doors open and walk away, the station reported. The person added a caption to the photo that read, "Imagine having to clean out your car and leaving it open in public, just so people won't break your windows."

Ah yes....California. We should have guessed.

Warm Day, Eh?

But weather has nothing to do with crime in the words of some New York carpetbagger from a few years back:

• Nine people were killed in violence across Chicago over a 24-hour period from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning.

  The large number of slayings would be unusual on a warm summer weekend and is startling for a late-winter weekday.

  Most of the victims were killed in shootings.

We're waiting for Goudie and Steinberg to tell us the racial breakdown of the victims and shooters to compare to the city population. 

Hopefully, with the slayings running from the far north side to the far south side, an acceptable equality of outcome will finally bring racial justice to the lib-tarded media minds. 

We couldn't bear another iTeam report or a Slum Times column about racist traffic stops!

Hilarious:

• Officials say a murder victim managed to shoot his killer before dying, and, after the murderer fled, a passerby took the victim’s gun, hunted down the killer, and shot some more. It all happened last Friday afternoon in the 7400 block of South Euclid, according to Chicago police and prosecutors.

The entire story is over at the CWB blog and it's a doozy. 

At reporting time, they still haven't caught the passerby....and one may be forgiven for hoping they never do.

• A man just released from prison for domestic assault has been arrested after an 11-year-old boy was killed and his pregnant mother critically wounded inside their home on the North Side Wednesday, officials said.

  The suspect, 37, has a long criminal history that dates back to at least 2004 in Cook County. He has been convicted of domestic battery and violating orders of protection in several cases. No charges had been announced as of Wednesday evening.

And....:

• The suspect was most recently convicted of aggravated domestic battery home invasion and possession of a stolen motor vehicle in 2017. State prison records show the suspect was paroled Tuesday from the Stateville Correctional Center, where he had been held since Feb. 1.

  He previously noted in a filing in an ongoing civil rights lawsuit against state prison officials that he had been released from prison on Oct. 6. It's unclear why he was sent back to prison in the same case. Officials with the Illinois Department of Corrections, the state Prisoner Review Board and the Cook County state's attorney's office didn't respond to questions.

But of course, no "truth in sentencing" laws will be proposed and no return to a Death Penalty statute. Hell, even "life in prison" has no meaning in a democrat run $hithole state. 

Just keep piling up the dead bodies.

"Restorative" Failure

This is what happens when democrats love criminals more than accountability:

• After prosecutors charged Desmond Johnson with having a pistol in his waistband during a traffic stop last summer, they made the 20-year-old a deal. They would divert his case to the Restorative Justice Community Court and, if he completed the program, they’d drop the felony charge.

  Johnson agreed, signing a “repair of harm agreement” on November 6 requiring him to do five things: create a resume and cover letter, get a job, attend a gun education class, complete a 10-week “financial literacy class,” and “create a vision board to show positive thought patterns, goals, and individuality.” 

  He was also ordered not to possess any guns.

  Now 21, Johnson’s restorative justice plan is in jeopardy. Prosecutors have charged him with having a tactical carbine in a backpack as he ran from police on Tuesday, March 5.

This ass gets a "second chance" along with all sorts of conditions for an initial felony...and then disregards it completely because he knows he'll probably never be held accountable.

But hey, register your rifles so that Fata$$ can confiscate them after the next "mass shooting" occurs without any second chances for you.

Not Teaching

Teachers are supposed to teach, correct? It's in their job title...."teacher." but they're encouraging kids to skip school to boost their numbers at a tax-hike rally:

• The Chicago Teacher’s Union is accused of violating school district policies by encouraging teachers to help get students to attend a get-out-the-vote event happening during the school day.

  The Illinois Policy Institute has now filed an ethics complaint.

  It said the union sent a message to members asking them to get students to attend a Friday morning rally at union headquarters. It’s put on in partnership with promoters of Mayor Brandon Johnson’s real estate transfer tax. The message says students will listen to candidates and political organizers before marching to an early voting site.

  Chicago Public Schools prohibits teachers from engaging in political activity during work time.

Wasn't there an FOP president a few years back who got into trouble for being photographed with a flag while next to his squad car? He was punished for that.

And weren't there a couple of cops, kneeling in the lobby of the 006th District with fists raised is support of some drug dealer who overdosed in Minnesota, who had CR numbers filed against them? they didn't get punished if we recall.

And now teachers, on the taxpayer dime, are encouraging kids (who cannot read or do math at grade level), to skip school for a tax-hike rally, when the rules specifically state kids of voting age can have two-hours to vote - either at the beginning of the school day or the end - but nothing about playing hooky.

Time to outlaw the teachers union.

Academy Class Cancelled?

If you have enough money, you can hire a lawyer to sue anyone for anything.

And if the FOP got the twelve weeks family leave approved, it's certainly a Contract violation. We know the supervisors got it, but did the rank-and-file?

In the meantime, unit assignment usually comes with conditions. And certain units (Mounted comes to mind) are specifically exempted from certain Contractual protections (no summer furloughs). And if you make waves....we're assuming it's not a biddable spot....you make your choices and you live with the consequences.

Dolton Again?

Not only is the mayor of Dolton bucking for a stint in Federal prison, a trustee is flirting with State penitentiary time:

• A trustee of a south suburb is accused of sexual misconduct with a village employee while on a taxpayer-funded trip to Las Vegas, according to a pair of complaints filed with the Illinois Department of Human Rights.

  The trustee vehemently denies the allegations.

  The employee worked for Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard who was also on the trip along with her security detail and other village officials.

A quick search of the Dolton website has six trustees listed, three of them women, leaving three men under a cloud. 

As far as we can tell, the only people investigating this allegation is the Illinois Department of Human Rights, which we imagine doesn't have the personnel, equipment or authorization to investigate an actual crime. 

But we suppose in a state with all sorts of unauthorized agencies operating outside of their lawful mandates, we shouldn't be surprised.

Refusing Endorsements

Almost humorous:

• The Democratic candidates for Cook County state’s attorney distanced themselves Friday from the controversial head of the Chicago police union after he released a video making favorable comments about them both.

  John Catanzara, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7, said his remarks were not meant as an official union endorsement but an encouragement for rank-and-file police officers to not vote Republican.

  “The Cook County state’s attorney’s race will be decided in the Democratic primary,” Catanzara says...

He isn't wrong, but neither candidate wants the FOP nod, and....:

• Both Burke and Harris released statements Friday saying they had not sought the endorsement of the FOP or its controversial president — and seeking to tie the other to the union.

They're not campaigning against Crimesha and her record of dead and maimed minority victims, but that the support of the police union - which at its most basic stands for law and order - is a bad thing.

Incredible. Democrats love crime.

And guess who has noticed this also? The conservative business community:

• Conservative donors in finance are supplying six-figure political donations to Cook County state’s attorney candidate Eileen O’Neill Burke this week, helping her open a gaping lead in fundraising for the March 19 Democratic primary.

  By Friday, with a little more than two weeks before balloting ends, O’Neill Burke had reported nearly $1.92 million in donations, more than twice the $750,000 reported by her opponent, university lecturer Clayton Harris III, who won the Cook County Democratic endorsement.

Business owners are losing millions here and billions across the nation in blue $hithole states and have realized that the only way to stop the bleeding is a return to law, order and punishing crime.

The Other Migration

Millions of illegals have invaded and are scattering to blue-state-$hitholes, and that is causing the "other migration:"

• A lot has been reported about celebrities like Joe Rogan moving out of California in recent years. However, economist Stephen Moore says there's a much broader trend here.

  During a January interview with Fox Business, Moore claimed that over the last 10 years, about five million people have left the so-called "blue states" Illinois, New York, California and New Jersey.

  “This is one of the biggest mass migrations in American history,” he said.

It certainly is.

Between 1920 and 1970, nearly six million blacks moved from the south to northern cities in search better jobs and an escape from the Civil Rights violations. In 1920, the US population was around 106,000,000. By 1970, it was 203,000,000. That works out to about 6% of the total population growth uprooting itself and moving.

In 2010, the population was 308,000,000 and in 2020 it grew to 331,000,000, then five million people moving is around 21% of the total population growth moving elsewhere. 

That's a huge number and gives a different spin on the seven million illegals - a low-ball estimate - streaming over the border. The people leaving are the ones that can afford to, and those staying (or arriving) can't.

Talk to some soon-to-be-retired coworkers. We'll bet around half are leaving town before next year.

Closed for Business

A couple days ago, we mentioned Pittsburgh PD wasn't responding to an entire series of calls for service that weren't "in progress."

That wasn't the full extent of the disaster that is Pittsburgh:

• "The Purge" is coming to Pittsburgh between the hours of 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., and if that works out well enough for the city's criminal class, maybe they'll expand those hours.

  [...] Under the new rules that went into effect at the end of February and were just given nationwide attention by End Wokeness on Twitter/X, there will be no Pittsburgh police at the city's six police stations between the hours of 3 a.m. and 7 a.m.

They're actually closing police stations for four hours overnight. Cops will still be on the streets, and they'll probably have some form of access to locker rooms and such, but the lobbies will be closed / locked / unavailable.

We used to joke with the desk crew about hanging a "Closed" sign on the entrance on particularly busy nights...and some of the overly slow nights, too. But Pittsburgh is actually doing it.

Maybe Conehead will let District Commanders dig a moat out front and raise the drawbridge for a few hours overnight or on major holidays.

• Under Mayor Brandon Johnson, Black people hold more top salaried city jobs and top mayoral appointments than any other racial group, a Chicago Sun-Times analysis has found.

  Along with Johnson, Chicago’s fourth Black mayor, Black city leaders now include the police superintendent, fire commissioner, corporation counsel, budget director plus heads of several city departments and the Chicago Housing Authority and the Chicago Transit Authority, all key mayoral appointments.

As Chuckles pointed out quite loudly the other week, blacks make up 28% of Chicago's population, white white people account for 32%. 

Conehead's cabinet does not reflect this in any way, shape or form. We expect lots of headlines this week.

Someone better call that wife-beater, beta male, too. He loves to toss out the racial stats claiming token whites being butt-hurt about promotional opportunities and ignoring brown people entirely.

"Reimagine" the Past

Let's see....take multiple million dollar properties along with millions of commercial square footage off the tax rolls pretty much forever....what could go wrong?

• The city of Chicago has announced plans to convert a collection of empty office buildings in the city's downtown into mixed-used and residential towers.

  The initiative, called LaSalle Street Reimagined, would convert nearly 2.3 million square feet (213,676 square metres) of vacant office buildings into residences and retail in the centre of Chicago, an area known as The Loop.

  The plan incentivises developers to make the conversions and locally owned businesses through grants to inhabit vacant storefronts, building lobbies and former banking floors – while incorporating housing into the towers above.

Correct us if we're wrong, but didn't Chicago used to have giant sets of high rises dedicated solely to housing? We seem to remember spending a lot of time answering calls there. 

Elevators never worked, hallways smelled like piss, shit and weed, holes in the walls to make multiple apartment "suites," Chain link fencing in the breezeways, surrounded by rats, and often raining canned goods when we pulled up to a call.

But damn, we never missed Leg Day, climbing the stairs three and four times a night.

Stop Asking Questions!

Just open your wallet peasant:

• The Chicago Teachers Union will soon ask the city for financial assistance to house teachers.

  For reference, the median teacher’s salary is more than $93,000 compared to Chicago’s median household income for the whole city of $71,000.

  CTU also said it wants money for housing students experiencing homelessness or temporary living situations, but the first item on their list of housing demands was: “Financial assistance for CTU members to live and work in the city.”

  CTU’s contract proposal states their housing agenda starts with “Bring Chicago Home” on the city’s March 19 primary ballot. They gave $200,000 to the effort to promote the tax hike.

This is the referendum on the ballot that was declared null-and-void by the courts and is currently on appeal. 

Anyone know why CTU is concerning itself with housing students? As far as we know, CPS doesn't run any boarding schools or orphanages. 

And since they're making $22,000 more than the average Chicagoan, why do they need housing assistance? Many already live outside the city in violation of existing ordinance and without the required waivers granted to certain specialists.

To all those questions and more, the head of their union says, "Shut up and give us money":

• On that nasty subject of (dare I say this?) money, Gates was stridently indifferent.“They’re gonna say, ‘these are great proposals and can’t nobody pay for it and CTU with all of this, that and the other and who’s gonna pay for it, Stacy?’ ”

  “Stop asking that question,” she said. “Ask another question.”

It's far past time to bring the teachers' union to heel. If police and fire can't strike because of public safety concerns, why shouldn't Springfield take away the CTU's ability to hold children and their education hostage for money? 

And that's just for starters. How about something like Michigan (and many other states) did years ago and de-couple school funding from property taxes? Deprive them of unlimited taxpayer funding and Chicago might actually see some real changes.

Another Pension Scandal?

• For those that haven’t heard…one of our famous rank-thief families has done it again. One of the [had the answers] clan has managed to get disability for stress. Apparently being a multiple merit promotee and lt exam cheat takes a toll on your psyche. Though if that is true, our entire exempt structure may collapse.

If it's true, Conehead may collapse. Again.

Anyone know if this is true? We heard she had applied for disability based on stress, which is ridiculous. Related to the Riccio regime, she has been taken care of her entire career, cushy assignments, "merit" and Mom had the answers with her not-so-secret study group....how is that stressful?

By the way, we got the list for the study group with all the email addresses included. Since some numbskull used their Department address for the study group, would that mean that all emails and attached study material is discoverable via an FOIA request?

Re-criminalizing Drugs

Has there been any good decision made by a leftist government in the past twenty or so years?

• The Oregon House passed bill 4002 last week that will once again make the possession of hard drugs a crime, reversing what many called an ill-advised decision in 2020 to decriminalize possession of small amounts of drugs. That decision was carried out under a ballot initiative approved by Oregon voters. 

  The reversal of course was spurred by a surge in deaths from opioids, including those of children, which has been fueled in part by the proliferation of fentanyl, the AP reports.
  

After "decriminalization," overdose deaths jumped by 1,300% (84 to over 1,100). 

Usually we'd call this a good start on reducing the addict population. But the number of innocent kids overdosing on mommy or daddy's stash also skyrocketed and no one was being held accountable, even as they passed all sorts of laws about storing guns, ammo and making it impossible for regular folks to buy a self-defense firearm to protect themselves from burglars and robbers out to score their next fix.

What the...?!?

This one came out of leftist field:

• Father Michael Pfleger worries Chicago city officials’ recent decision to remove school resource officers from all Chicago Public Schools could have the opposite effect of what’s intended.

  “You really disrespect schools to make decisions that they felt was best for them,” the long-time pastor of St. Sabina Catholic Church in Auburn Gresham told The Center Square. “You’re saying, ‘Well, we know better.’ This is their school, and since when do we know better for them? I think the process was terrible and disrespectful. That’s not a progressive move. Progressive is supposed to be listening to the people and having the people in the decision-making.”

  Soon after authorities moved to pass a resolution stipulating that the district draft a new safety plan, erasing police from the equation, the plan was unanimously approved by the city’s seven-member Board of Education. It is set to be presented for final approval by June 27.

Actually Mike, that's exactly what "progressive" means nowadays. They know better, despite all evidence to the contrary, and they're going to make sure everyone else follows their diktats, consequences be damned.

Shooting, Barricade Incident

Sounds like no one injured:

• Authorities responded to a police-involved shooting and an hours-long standoff Saturday afternoon on Chicago's South Side. A man who was barricaded inside an apartment in the 8000 block of South Western Avenue has been arrested, Chicago police said.

  The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said they responded to a police-shooting at that location. At least one Chicago police officer discharged their weapon.

  It was not immediately known if the suspect inside the apartment was injured.

This seems to follow the pattern of quite a few incidents lately. Bad guy runs, cops pursue - but only up to the point where the offender is trapped, SWAT is called, incident drags out before ending.

We can't say we're surprised at these procedural developments. And we'll say that SWAT is probably going to earn their money the next few years....or decades even. 

No one wants a police shooting, not even the police.

Buy That Man Some Ammo!

Good news everyone!

• A man is dead after he was shot while trying to rob a man in Auburn Gresham early Friday, police said.

  The alleged robber approached a 60-year-old man who was outside in the 1500 block of West 82nd Street around 5:30 a.m., according to Chicago police.

  He pulled a gun and demanded property from the 60-year-old, who also pulled out a gun, which he was licensed to carry.

  The two exchanged gunfire, and both suffered gunshot wounds.

Offender dead, old man stable. A speedy recovery wished to him.

We can't wait to see how many charges the dead guy was out on bail for before who chose the wrong victim.

Measles?

For the first time since 2019, two cases of measles have been reported in Chicago:

• The Chicago Department of Public Health has confirmed a second case of measles.

  Hours after revealing they had detected the city’s first measles case since  2019, CPDH announced overnight that another case was identified in a young child who has been staying at a new arrivals migrant shelter in Pilsen, at 2241 S. Halsted.

A shelter with how many thousands stuffed inside?

And the first case? Swedish Covenant Hospital on the north side. The infected person self-transported in a CTA bus.

Nothing to worry about though. Conehead is welcoming thousands more illegals this year.

UPDATE: Lockdown!

• Migrants at a city-run shelter in Pilsen were startled awake about 1 a.m. Friday and told there was a measles outbreak, the doors were locked, there was a 10-day quarantine — and anyone who left would lose their place there, new arrivals told Block Club.

Quick! Get a bunch of buses and ship them all back over the border!

• Evidence has purportedly been uncovered that the CDC knew during the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out that the vaccines were associated with an increase in potentially deadly heart muscle inflammation called myocarditis. Still, the agency allegedly swept that knowledge under the rug.

  The revelation stems from an internal email dated May 21, 2021, between CDC officials obtained by The Epoch Times. In the email titled “Draft alert on myocarditis and mRNA vaccines,” Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, the CDC’s lead on Equity in COVID Data and Engagement, informed two other senior CDC officials that the alert was attached.

This - most likely - led to last week's CDC guidelines treating non-fever COVID as a common respiratory illness....you know, the way anyone who wasn't part of the plan-demic Big Pharma government overreach efforts.

As everyone is aware, government indemnified Big Pharma from damages, but no one exempted government from Civil Rights violations related to forced and false choices.

Chicago Death Knell

You want to see a real exodus from Chicago?

• A City Council subcommittee overseeing the search for new revenue will report back in 30 days with ideas that include video gaming, expanded helicopter service to and from O’Hare and Midway airports and turning vacant downtown retail space into a haven for digital advertising.

  Freshman Ald. William Hall (6th), Mayor Brandon Johnson’s hand-picked chair, also warmed to possibly leveling the tax playing field between the haves and have-nots by seeking legislative approval for a city income tax on salaries over $100,000 earned in Chicago or taxing stock holdings and personal liquid assets of wealthy residents.

  Both ideas, as well as a digital advertising tax, were included in the $12 billion revenue smorgasbord outlined by the Action Center on Race & the Economy and the People’s Unity Platform shortly after Johnson took office.

So a proposed 3.5% pay cut to most of the CPD, CFD, CPS, and any city worker with 15 years of seniority. Not to mention a sizable portion of corporate drones who have a significant amount of marketable talent that is 100% portable.

The rich will simply leave town overnight. The middle class will begin may take a little longer, but they'll abandon ship not unlike the massive exodus seen in NYC these past three years.

Keep an eye on Springfield. We're pretty sure they need state approval to institute this crap.

Guns Optional!

A reader who sent this in came up with that title:

• The Chicago White Sox announced the return of Chicago Public School appreciation days Thursday, where CPS families and employees can fill out an online form to receive complimentary free tickets to three upcoming home games at Guaranteed Rate Field.

They still haven't released the final cover-up report, but in case there are any actual reporters reading, here's another tip:

• We already pointed out the physical impossibility of two bullets traveling nearly a mile and landing in the same seating area.

  How about asking why the wound across Fat-Flap's belly was horizontal across the body? She would have had to have been lying down, on her side, in the aisle, for that to have occurred.

Just wondering.

UPDATE: to the unpublished dumbass - we never said a bullet couldn't travel that far. What we said was two bullets were physically unlikely to travel that far and end up in same setting section. Perhaps we should have added without the aid of a fully trained shooter and outfitted with an optic comparable in price to a decent used car?

Leftists Sick of Crime?

Even hard core blue state shitholes don't seem to like pro-crime policies....eventually:

• San Francisco’s liberal voters just endorsed drug screenings for welfare recipients. Washington’s progressive City Council passed a crime package Tuesday that will keep more people in jail while awaiting trial. And New York’s governor on Wednesday ordered hundreds of National Guard troops to deploy inside the city’s troubled subway system.

  The country’s biggest, bluest cities are embracing tough-on-crime policies that would have been politically heretical just a few years ago — ratcheting up criminal penalties and expanding police power amid fear and anger over a rash of brazen crimes like carjackings and retail theft.

  These Democrat-led policy changes mark a stark reversal from 2020, when the growing influence of progressives fueled a national effort to curb police powers and scale back law enforcement budgets following the murder of George Floyd.

We're pretty sure they meant the "deliberate fentanyl overdose of career criminal St. George of Floyd."

Conehead won't commit to National Guard troops on the CTA though:

• Mayor Brandon Johnson is sidestepping the issue of whether Chicago would follow New York's lead and welcome the National Guard's help patrolling mass transit.

  Johnson on Wednesday didn’t directly address New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s decision to deploy National Guard members and state police in The Big Apple's subways. But the mayor was asked if he would welcome similar help here in Chicago, at least during the Democratic National Convention this summer.

We have a feeling a lot of things are on the table for the DNC, especially as nearly all of this year's thousand retirements are happening before August.

This Moron Again?

Steinberg is whining again. Amusingly, at the very top of the column is a box that says, "This article cost an estimated $2,200 - DONATE NOW." 

We're pretty sure readers are being ripped off (no link for Neal):

• A police officer I know shared a link to a Chicago Police Department video encouraging cops to apply for the 2024 sergeants' exam. The five-minute video was produced for internal CPD consumption, but someone posted it to YouTube.

"Someone" had to post it because the Official CPD site took it down, probably because it was evidence of their stupidity and racism.

• The video begins with a stolid white-shirt, two pens snugly beside his gold star, looking directly into the camera.

  [useless exempt member spouting nonsense propaganda] I look forward to seeing all of your enthusiastic faces on examination day."

  All of their enthusiastic faces? Really? Because as the video unfolds ... well, let's give it a look.

We did. And so did a lot of other people, which is why Steinberg has something to write about.

And the Neal gets nasty:

• Six more officers urge hard work. To an outsider, it's an unexceptional piece of management propaganda. So what's the trouble? Let's slide over to Second City Cop, an unofficial, relentlessly toxic Chicago police blog, and tune into the chatter:

Ah yes. As most of you know, Neal has carried a grudge against us for years now, ever since we wrote his....unfortunate experience with law enforcement. He proceeds to cherry-pick a few of the more pointed comments....anything to paint the blog in a bad light....and then this:

• Many remarks are blunt, bordering on cruel — lots of snark on the weight of the brass in the video. But they also reflect a reality as true in roll call as it was in kindergarten: It hurts to be left out. Particularly regarding job promotion. I asked CPD whether the racial makeup of the video was intentional.

  "The internal video featured supervisors encouraging all qualified members of the Chicago Police Department to apply for the upcoming sergeants' exam," News Affairs explained, dodging the question. "The role of a sergeant is an essential position within the Department and an important opportunity for the professional development of our sworn members. We continue to encourage all qualified members ready to take this next step in their careers to apply."

Neal ADMITS the Department dodged his question, and does exactly ZERO follow-up. You know, to hold government accountable for the things it does? What the media is supposed to do, or so we're told all the time.

And the lesson he derives from all of this?

• It hurts to be left out.
  

That's it? Wow. Tell us you were the last kid on the playground picked for teams without telling us you were the last kid picked. It's not about being "left out." It's about being completely dismissed from the rich and storied history of what was once a noble and respected calling of service to the community.

We aren't going to deny that the comment section gets a little rough at times. We filter out what needs filtering, but that is negligible. The fact is pretty much every single face in the video was a "merit" pick one or more times in their careers - a term that has no known definition in the CPD, nor attainable goals so that everyone could have a chance at meeting the "essential position" requirements - means that the ridicule is more than deserved in most cases.

And then Neal retreats to the tired old saw of aged liberals everywhere - racism!

• Maybe I should make their case for them. Chicago is 30% Black; only 22% of CPD is, and just 16% of sergeants. Must they tuck a token white face in their internal video? Is that really necessary?

Really? So if one-third of Department members, and one-third of sergeants are white, why wasn't a "token white face" in the video to even it all out? Why deliberately dismiss one-third of the Department from even being seen?

The rest of the column is excuse making, and Neal goes on about "merit," low standards, black versus white - and oddly, disregarding the one-third brown segment of the Department, who made numerous appearances in the video.

Guess Neal is racist, along with being a drunken wife beater.

Public Opinion on Crime

The latest from The Contrarian site has the results of their crime survey, and it's as bad as you think it is:

• Three weeks ago, Contrarian published a poll on crime in Chicago. Our survey drew over 2,200 responses and the results were stunning.

  When asked if Chicago was in the throes of a crime “crisis,” nearly everyone agreed. This was, in fact, the most polarizing question we asked. While 92.9 percent of respondents agreed crime had reached crisis level, an astounding 81.5 percent said they strongly agreed. Only 5.8 percent believed that crime in Chicago was not a crisis. Only 1 percent of respondents said they neither disagreed nor agreed. That was the lowest group of agnostics we had in the survey.

  Beyond being a crisis, a solid majority — 60 percent— of respondents said that they “strongly disagreed” with the statement “I feel safe in Chicago.” Another 25 percent “somewhat disagreed.” Less than 10 percent (9.5) indicated that they felt safe in the city.

  Perhaps the most incredible revelation was that a majority of respondents (54 percent) admitted they or a family member of been the victim of crime. This proves what we already know: Crime is so far reaching, it is affecting everyone in Chicago. No neighborhood is safe. Only 25 percent of respondents said they (or their family) had not been the victim of Chicago’s crime crisis.

They have more stats and a number of graphs up, all pointing at the failures of Chicago and Illinois pols to have any meaningful effect on reducing crime....or the incentives to commit crime. Crimesha takes the biggest hit, leading us to believe this is exactly why she's not running again. Conehead and Groot are tied for blame, with Fata$$ taking a hit. Even Larritorious get a ding, and he's barely been supernintendo for a few months.

Cops don't appear to be blamed....just politicians, but that could just be the questions asked. Regardless, 92% of respondents want MORE police.

Another Finding of Guilty

Missed this one the other day:

• Just five months after French was killed, another man was charged with shooting at Chicago police officers during a traffic stop in the Loop. As in Morgan’s case, the Loop traffic stop was caught on bodycams and other surveillance video. And, as in Morgan’s case, cops shot the man who allegedly opened fire on them.

  But Edgardo Perez, 26, rejected plea deals and put his fate in the hands of Judge Aleksandra Gillespie two weeks ago. It didn’t go well for him. Gillespie found him guilty on all counts—ten felonies, including four counts of attempted murder. He’s now facing the possibility of decades in prison.

  Officials said Perez was the front-seat passenger in a freshly hijacked Honda Accord when Chicago police officers stopped the vehicle near Columbus and Lower Wacker Drive around 8:48 p.m. on January 26, 2022.

  An officer’s bodycam was rolling as he approached the Accord’s passenger side on foot and ordered the vehicle’s occupants to show their hands, prosecutors have said. The footage allegedly showed Perez firing a handgun toward the officer at close range.

The video at the CWB link is particularly scary. The cop narrowly avoiding getting shot - catching some glass in his eye as the shitbag fired through the raised window. Very lucky doesn't begin to describe the scene.

This was a bench trial, so good on Judge Gillespie for seeing through the bull$hit.

With a couple verdicts going CPD's way, perhaps the crazy, naked, high-as-a-kite, squad car stealing, newly hired, 80K City of Chicago accountant woman trial beginning in April will go our way, too.

Two Stadium Handouts?

In the litany of bad ideas, this one is up there:

• There are at least three ways to consider a developer’s recent proposal to form a “financing partnership” to help build new stadiums for the Bears and the White Sox:

  – Boy, what a potential boost two stadiums would be for downtown Chicago, which hasn’t been the same since the pandemic.

  – For public-watchdog purposes, it would be nice to have Bears chairman George McCaskey and Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf under the same umbrella. You know, keeping your friends close and your enemies closer.

  – McCaskey and Reinsdorf together with a hand out could produce a bad-ownership nuclear reaction. Kind of like “Oppenheimer,’’ but with money-grubbing capitalists leading the way instead of brainy physicists. You might be asking how the Bears, who haven’t won a Super Bowl since the 1985 season, and the Sox, who have been a mess for a while, could get any worse. I don’t know, but I don’t want to use public funding to find out.

Columnist Rick Morrissey further demolishes the thought of taxpayers funding two stadiums, pointing out the Bears already said they'd do their own financing if they build in Arlington Heights. Not to mention we pointed out that Dollar Bill Wirtz paid off his stadium effort nearly thirty years ago with Reinsdorf along for the ride.

Hopefully, these voices dissuade politicos looking to spend non-existent money.

Policing Changes

A couple out-of-state stories

We might look back in a few years and realize Pittsburgh was the trendsetter:

• Starting Monday, the city of Pittsburgh says it will no longer respond to 911 calls that are not related to "in progress emergencies."

  According to a press release titled "Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Makes Operational Changes to Better Serve Pittsburgh," the city will create a "Telephone Reporting Unit" (TRU) to dispatch calls that do not require an in-person response by officers.

  "TRU will NOT be assigned to any 'In Progress' call where a suspect may be on scene, any crime where a person may need medical aid, any domestic dispute, calls with evidence, or where the Mobile Crime Unit will be requested to process a scene," the press release said.

We remember being part of a conversation with a high ranking individual once. They asked for input as to how the Department could "improve" operations. We, being at least as smart as this exempt, knew they were looking for ideas to steal, so we mentioned that if we educated the citizens as to "what constitutes an emergency requiring an immediate police response" the Department could free up manpower from paper jobs and concentrate on immediate responses to active crimes.

We aren't claiming credit....it isn't a new idea by any means. Many people have had it. The conversation was about fifteen years ago, and manpower was three-or-four-thousand more back then, with fully staffed units and five gang/tact teams per District. But it looks like a missed opportunity.

We thought Departments were trying to get away from the "militarization" of police functions?

• Get ready to open your backpack or bag to National Guard troops or state law enforcement when you ride New York City’s subway.

  Gov. Hochul is deploying 750 members of the Guard and 250 state and MTA police officers to subway stations to inspect passengers’ bags following a spate of violent incidents across the system.

This seems to happen every couple of years after a couple people get shot/stabbed on NYC subway platforms and trains. Don't expect the Illinois National Guard to be around though. Here in Chicago, we can't come close to fully staffing Mass Transit, and even if there are teams up, they don't respond to CTA incidents. 

In nearly thirty years, we've seen five Mass Transit responses total (we aren't counting CTA Special), and one of those was a guy hit by a train. The Commander of Mass Transit showed up and asked the lieutenant when we'd be done processing the train so the CTA could open up the tracks. That's all he cared about.

Guilty on All Counts

A small measure of justice:

• A jury found Emonte Morgan guilty in the 2021 murder of Chicago Police Officer Ella French and the attempted murder of two other officers on Tuesday evening.

  The jury of seven men and five women, most of whom live in the suburbs, deliberated for three and half hours and reached their verdict shortly before 7:30 p.m.

  French's mother, Elizabeth, arrived hand-in-hand with her daughter's colleagues for the reading of the verdict. She bowed her head as the guilty verdicts rang out.

Sentencing scheduled for 19 April. 

The courtroom should be packed with Officers.

Here Come the Demands

• Many of California’s legislative Democrats are running from their idea to partly base electricity bills on the income of ratepayers. Yes, the idea has its challenges. But the status quo many Democrats seem to prefer is to continue sticking it lower-income Californians rather than making energy bills more equitable.

  Climate change has created a property insurance crisis, an electricity crisis, and an overall public financing crisis. None of these crises are close to resolution while rates for Pacific Gas and Electric customers have doubled in just five years, largely driven by costs to fix and expand the grid.

So all the rich people who installed solar panels and windmills to cut down on their electric bills? Yeah, you're still paying double what you did a few years back to fund the poor who can't afford the skyrocketing electric costs of America's failed state.

Paramedic gets five years in prison for dosing a mental:

• A judge on Friday sentenced paramedic Peter Cichuniec who was convicted in the 2019 death of Elijah McClain to five years in the Department of Corrections, which is essentially the minimum sentence for his second-degree assault conviction.

  [...] The jury found Cooper not guilty of second-degree assault with intent to cause bodily harm and not guilty of second-degree assault for administering drugs without consent. The jury found Cichuniec guilty of second-degree assault for administering drugs without consent and acquitted him of second-degree assault with intent to cause bodily harm.

One thing no one wants is medical assistance slow rolling to a call because the paramedics are worried about prison time.

So the family of a dead non-demonized teen from this weekend wilding is demanding an arrest and prosecution:

• The family of a teenager who was killed after gunfire erupted during a large gathering of teens in the South Loop on Saturday is speaking out.

  According to Chicago police, officers were already near the 500 block of West Roosevelt Road, where around 200 teens were gathered, when shots were fired near West Roosevelt and Canal streets just after 8 p.m. A 15-year-old boy was shot of the leg and survived. Jeremy Smith, 17, was struck and critically injured. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

  His family said he was taking part in a Facebook meet up at Roosevelt and Canal when he was shot. His family said Jeremy was a high school senior and about to graduate this spring. His parents say they thought he was in a different location when they got the call about the shooting.

  [...] His family is not only calling for the shooter to be turned in and charged, but also for parents to verify that where their children say they’re going is where they are going to be. 
  

Yeah.....about that. 

Crimesha would like a word with you:

• A 14-year-old suspect in a South Loop shooting that killed one teen and injured another during a large gathering was released from police custody without being charged, Chicago police confirmed.

  The 14-year-old boy was arrested after a chase shortly following the 8 p.m. Saturday shooting in the 500 block of West Roosevelt Road, but as of Monday, he has been released from custody without being charged with anything, police said.

We'll just say what everyone already knows:

• Crimesha doesn't care about dead black people, because at the end of the end of the day, she can tell her ignorant voters that she kept an accused black criminal out of jail.

She only cares about one end of the criminal justice equation, and it's not the one where Chicago has 1,513 straight days of shootings with over 3,000 dead, nearly 13,000 maimed, 85% of them black. No, it's how many accused shooters and killers she kept out of prison.

Probation?

Crook County justice always manages to disappoint:

• A man has been sentenced to probation for firing two shots from a Chicago police officer’s handgun while the cop struggled for control of the weapon in Lincoln Park last year.

  Thomas Tucker, 30, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery of a peace officer and endangering others by recklessly discharging a firearm, according to court records. Judge Anjana Hansen handed him two years of probation with orders to undergo a mental health evaluation and treatment. Court records show that he must also submit a DNA sample for indexing and meet other obligations.

  [...]  Prosecutors dropped the most serious charge Tucker faced, disarming a peace officer, and a handful of additional gun-related felonies in his plea deal.

So Crimesha's orifice also had a hand in this travesty.

So...It's the Flu

Announced on a Friday, so no one noticed:

• Testing positive for Covid-19 will no longer mean prolonged isolation for most people under new US guidelines released Friday.

  People with Covid whose symptoms are improving and have been fever-free for 24 hours without medication can return to work, school or other public places, US health officials said. The updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations acknowledge the waning severity of infections along with the effectiveness of treatments and vaccines. 

  After sweeping across the world and leaving more than 1.1 million Americans dead in its wake, Covid has been significantly tamed by vaccines, drugs such as Pfizer Inc.’s Paxlovid and widespread immunity resulting from infections.
  

Oh, you mean natural immunity? That thing that the media kept telling everyone didn't exist and only the unproven, cardiac-event inducing, clot shot could save us all? And if you didn't get it, you were restricted in your ability to conduct business or even earn a living?

Clear the Streets?

Wilding in the South Loop area over the weekend:

• Two teenagers were shot, one fatally, when a large gathering of mostly teenagers in the South Loop turned violent on Saturday evening, Chicago police said. Dozens of arrests were made as the crowd, drawn to the area by social media posts, overwhelmed community outreach workers and Chicago cops.

  Hundreds of people converged in the area of Roosevelt and Canal after 7 p.m., and police officers were already arresting people within the hour. But the event soon turned violent.

  Part of the group was gathered in the parking lot of BMO Harris Bank, 522 West Roosevelt, when at least one gunman fired shots at 8:06 p.m., according to a CPD media statement and witnesses. Officers, already in the area, immediately called out shots fired on the radio and responded to the scene. They began lifesaving efforts, detained the gunman, and recovered a firearm, police said.

Unfortunately, we believe this is going to be the situation all summer long. There is no plan, there is no manpower to field a quick reaction force, and there is no plan to prosecute and hold the demonized yutes responsible. August is going to be insane with the convention here.

Here's the worrisome part we see:

• “Anybody that’s on the street, they’re going to jail,” David Harris, commander of CPD’s Central (1st) District, announced on the radio. “We’re going to do a mass arrest. All these kids are going to jail.”

  The exact number of arrests made was not yet available, but a source who was at the scene said “dozens” of people, mostly juveniles, were taken into custody.

There were eight juvie arrests, one adult arrest and three curfew violations. Does that compare exactly to the number of persons removed in handcuffs? Although it may feel good to say "clear the streets!" every single discrepancy is a potential Civil Rights lawsuit and the commander (who was suspended for lying about crime numbers AND for getting into a verbal altercation with a crossing guard over a traffic barricade AND accused of striking said crossing guard with his city automobile) doesn't seems to be a meticulous rule follower. 

The order for Mass Arrests runs eight pages long. Did you know there are seventeen separate notifications that have to be made for a Mass Arrest incident? And the number of teams (detectives, ETs, outside personnel, etc) that have to be assembled is quite lengthy, not to mention the transportation issue of moving large amounts of prisoners. And believe it or not, you still need observable, articulate-able and preferably recorded Probable Cause to arrest people in a Mass Arrest situation.

It's enough to give Conehead a stress episode.

Officer Wounded

Sounds like the windshield slowed down the round and the Officer was hit in the vest by fragments:

• Two Chicago police officers and an 18-year-old man were hospitalized following a shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood Sunday morning. The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. in the 3800 block of West Augusta Boulevard.

  Preliminary information says the officers assigned to the district were on routine patrol when an unknown number of offenders began to shoot at a group of males down the street. During the shooting, a bullet struck the windshield of their marked squad car. An officer was struck in his bullet-proof vest, and a second officer suffered injuries to his face from glass.

  The officers did not return fire, police said. 
  

So stray rounds downrange from the intended target. Scary situation.

News reports say "Humboldt Park" but this looks more in Garfield Park as it's on Chicago Avenue in the 011th District.

Again, the Pension Board is fucking with legitimately Duty Disabled Officers who go into "no pay" status due to the Pension Board not doing their jobs, nor doing anything to fix what is obviously broken. 

The FOP is trying to fix it in Springfield (excuse the spelling errors - evidently, WGN can't hire editors who know how to read....probably illegal Venezuelans):

• The Chicago Fraternal Order of Police is pushing to make changes to how the Pension Board operates. The FOP says officers hurt on the job are too often put on [sic] no pay status for months and sometimes years before appeals court hears their case.

  The FOP is pushing legislation in Springfield and working with the City Council to have more presentation [sic] on the pension board so officers who get injured on the job get their promised benefits.

  “There is no reason why any officer should have to suffer a financial loss after an injury serving this city and its citizens and again it’s been an ongoing issue,” FOP president John Cantanzera said.

Citing a couple examples:

• Still, many were put on [sic] no pay status after one year of disability benefits and burning through their vacation comp and sick time which [sic] their cases before the pension board took up their case.

  Officer Danny Golden was one of the officers there. He was shot in July breaking up a bar fight while he was off duty. He’s paralyzed from the waist down. He has been on [sic] no pay status since October. Sar [sic] Hecker shattered her knee on the job in 2010 and the injury led ger [sic] to a very park [sic] place.

The second case is especially egregious:

• ordered to return to work full duty despite three different  doctors orders;
• failed another evaluation with the city doctor;
• was told her benefits would remain intact, but suddenly they weren't;
• Pension Board blamed City, City blamed Pension Board;
• no pay and lapsed insurance - the Pension Board maintained their once-a-month schedule while bills piled up for multiple months, meaning destroyed credit ratings and Past Due notices all over the place
  

There's also a third case where the Officer was without any sort of disability payments for an extensive period of time. An Officer who not only lost a critical body part and large sections of bone, but also his partner. The Pension Board put him into a no-pay status if you can believe that shit.

These are Officers CATASTROPHICALLY injured performing their jobs being tossed aside by an uncaring and incompetent bureaucracy. 

Things have to change immediately.

• A mass shooting outside a South Side grocery store on Monday left two bystanders dead, but the intended victim and the man who allegedly shot him both survived, prosecutors said Thursday.

  And CWBChicago has learned the shooting provides a good example of how the city’s ShotSpotter gunfire detection system helps get first responders to shooting scenes quickly. We’ll share Chicago police radio activity with you in a minute so you can hear it yourself.

And just to rub salt in the wound:

• Chicago police radio traffic from the night of the shooting shows that ShotSpotter technology allowed CPD to pinpoint the exact address of the gunfire quickly. In fact, the audio shows that, because ShotSpotter provided the shooting address, officers arrived at the scene about the same time dispatchers received the first 911 call about the crime.

Again, ShotSpotter works exactly as designed.

What it doesn't do is prevent gun crimes.

But responding rapidly means faster paramedic arrival, perhaps lives saved, and a better chance of capturing the shooter so Crimesha can let them go free because Cuck Goudie mansplained a couple of really really dumb statistics to her.

• A bullet flew through the front windshield of a Chicago police vehicle parked in front of former Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s home in Logan Square overnight.

  Two officers were inside the car., providing security for Lightfoot’s house in the 3400 block of West Wrightwood, when a round hit the windshield of their unmarked Ford Explorer around 3:09 a.m. They were not injured. A CPD spokesperson said the officers did not return fire.

  In fact, the officers didn’t immediately realize what happened until about ten minutes later. That’s when they found a bullet fragment inside the squad car, according to a CPD spokesperson. An evidence technician went to the scene to recover the bullet.

Okay, we really have to work on training cops nationwide about shots fired:

• 2.Two years as a Lieutenant of Police, or   
• 3.One year as a Lieutenant of Police with a specialized skill or training, or   
• 4.Significant time as a Sergeant of Police. 
  

So obviously, some clout heavy sergeant has too much baggage to be put in for "merit" lieutenant, so they're going to make one or more sergeants into commanders, like they made Sgt Keating a Deputy Chief back in the 1990's's because he played with Shortshanks as a child.

How about we just promote the first twenty sergeants off the seniority list into commander spots. They've all been here for 25 or more years, and they've all been sergeants nearly 20 years. Since they've been here a while, they know how shit gets done, and they're probably smarter than 99% of the exempt staff.

Per HeyJackass.com, a miracle occurred on 28 February:

• February 28th marked the first day in over four years to go without a shooting and/or a homicide.

A sharp eyed reader who owns a calculator commented thusly:

• 4 years, 1 month, and 21 days 
• 3092 killed and 12856 wounded.
  

That's almost two dead and eight wounded every single day for nearly fifty months. 

Like a war zone. Someone must have run out of victims and/or targets. Or ammunition.

We contacted Cuck Goudie to do a statistical analysis on the racial breakdowns, but he claimed his calculator ran out of batteries and besides, math is racist....just like CPD traffic stops.

A gathering of brainiacs to fix Chicago:

• Chicago's Loop was the center of attention Thursday morning. Leaders announced a committee to revitalize the downtown area, including State Street.

  That includes making people feel safe, getting more businesses in vacant buildings and adding more amenities and dining.

  It's all a part of the Chicago Loop Alliance's strategic five-year plan, which was shared during the group's annual meeting Thursday.

Where have we heard "five-year plan" before? Oh yeah, the USSR always had a five year plan, right before they executed all the dissidents and headed into another famine starving hundreds of thousands of their own citizens.

We guess the Chicago commies noticed this other report:

• State Street is a cultural anchor, a shopping destination, and an important part of Chicago's history.

  [...] But right now, State Street has seen better days. The storefront vacancy rate on the Loop stretch of State Street is higher than ever before – as the downtown area tries to make a post-COVID comeback.
